2007 Steelers Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt (1 Viewer)

I doubt Cowher leaves. He's too young, what's he gonna do?

I saw something on NFLN a while back about him missing his daughters growing up and how he wishes he had more time at home etc. IIRC One was a very good HS player and about to go onto college so she won't even be home if he was there. I think he was just reflecting on everything after finally making it to the top of the mountain.

I don't disagree that on paper he had some better teams. There was on year where I thought Barry Foster was very exciting and I doubt Parker's ever that good. Lloyd was a beast. Rod Woodson should go to the HOF and Carnell Lake was fierce as a S or CB. Their O line always seems tough and he probably had his most creative O when Kordell was playing the slash role. On paper doesn't matter, this was their best team and the Supe proves it. IMO He's been tested plenty until he finally made it losing great players and top coaches of his and.... I just think he's reflecting back on it all.

He'll coach again if he leaves. The guy is way too passionate about the game to walk away for a long time. I feel very confident stating that.

Why would Cowher retire? He has plenty of young talent, not to mention a possible stud QB (something he has never had), meaning he should have a shot at multilple Super Bowl titles in the next few years.

Why would he build a home in Raleigh and have his wife and daughter move there from Pitsburgh if his plan was to stay in Pittsburgh? Especially when he talks openly about wanting to spend more time with his family?

You should never answer a question with a question. :P Besides, I wasn't questioning whether Cowher actually is going to retire or not, merely why a coach with a team that has the potential to win several more Super Bowl's would want to retire. Vermeil did it, and regretted it almost immediately. Cowher has the chance to go down as a Hall of Fame coach if he can win another title or two, though I can understand wanting to retire to spend time with family.

I think the Lombardi Trophy already clinched the HoF for Cowher. However, he could be mentioned among the elite coaches of all-time if he could get another championship or two in the next five years.

so his daughter could play for a hoops team

I know that's why they built the house down there, I just don't think they would have done it if his plan included him continuing to coach in Pittsburgh after this season. I would be much more surprised if he's still the Steelers head coach in 2007 than if he isn't.

Here's the worst thing -- even if he does retire, you know he will some day get back into coaching. It's in his blood. It may be 10 years from now. But it will be absolutely awful to see him coaching any other team. As you know, he IS the Steelers. I honestly thought he'd coach the team until he died. I was very down on him about six or seven years ago, but he won back my confidence in spades, because he showed me he *was* able to learn and adjust his coaching style as needed.

Parcells seems to have made a great living by retiring and waiting for an owner to give him enough money to unretire.

Oh I have little doubt that he'll coach again. But I think we'll see him take 3 or 4 years off until his daughter goes off to college. And I agree, it would be tough to see him coach somewhere else. I'd have a hard time rooting against him.
