2009 Top 5 Per position (1 Viewer)

3nOut

Footballguy
These are my top five players at each position going into next year (if a redraft was held today). Also 2 honorable mentions per position.

QB:

1. T. Brady - I think he comes back huge

2. D. Brees - Elite QB with many solid targets

3. P. Manning - Looks like the old Peyton

4. J. Cutler - Getting better every year

5. T. Romo - Has talent but is inconsistent. Talented receivers but will TO and Roy's egos ruin Dallas?

Honorable mention: M. Schaub and M. Ryan. Up-and-comers on improving teams.

RB:

1. A. Peterson - WHats to say?

2. B. Jacobs - If you keep him healthy, he's a beast. Where does he en up? If he stays in NY, I think it'll be without either Ward or Bradhshaw (more touches).

3. F. Gore - New coach + new philosophy = better Gore

4. C. Portis - He'd be even better if the 'Skins had a more consistent passing game \

5. S. Jax - Bounces back

Honorable mention: Bush still will share backfield, M.Lynch breaks top seven. (and yes LT out of top 5)

WR:

1. L. Fitzgerald - if Warner decides not to retire

2. R. Wayne - more FF points as Manning plays better to start the season

3. R. Moss - Resurgence with the return of Brady

4. B.Marshall - if he doesn't get suspended again

5. A. Johnson - much better year (finally) now that he isn't playing hurt

Honorable mention: Calvin Johnson and D. Bowe if they get better QBs (can't see Thigpen returning as starter). TO who (he'll be splitting targets)?

TE:

1. A. Gates - still #1 in 2008 on a bad year

2. D. Keller - future STUD. Can't confidently put anyone above him

3. Gonzo - Unless KC grants his trade request, will see fewer touches with Bowe and Bradley stepping up

4. J. WItten - are there enough ba;;s to go around in Dallas?

5. G. Olsen - getting better each year. Breakout year?

Honorable mention: O. Daniels (good passing team) and K. Boss (Shockey who?)

Thoughts?

Wow.

QB - Warner has to be in Top 5 for next year

RB - Matt Forte. He is an uber stud in PPR leagues and still Top 5 in non-PPR leagues. Oh, there is also this guy in New Orleans who has having a monster year before he got hurt. Bush or something is his name

WR - Boldin is the #1 WR in FF right now. Marshall is arguably the 2nd best receiver on his team (Yes, I said it). Calvin Johnson may be the best overall WR next year.

TE - Witten. Gates is only #1 this year bc Witten was hurt. No way you keep Winslow out of the Top 5.

How do you leave Boldin off that list? Wayne at 2 is a joke.
A lot of questions:1. Will Warner retire? Leaving Leinart as QB

2. Will Arizona run more with Hightower?

3. Will Breaston take more touches away from both Boldin and Fitz?

4. WHERE will he play next year?

Everyone can't make the top five.

QB:

1. Manning, he'll be fully healthy next year.

2. Brees, another year of experience for all his targets.

3. Cutler, best young QB in the league.

4. Romo, too many weapons not to succeed.

5. Brady, I worry about his knee, not everyone recovers like Rivers did.

Honorable Mention: Warner, I have some concerns about durability and at his age he could lose it.

RB:

1. Peterson, easiest call at any position.

2. C. Johnson, I'm buying the elite skills, he'll get more work and more help next year.

3. Jones-Drew, I expect Taylor to be gone or benched as the playmaker is unleashed.

4. Gore, only question is who's running his team.

5. Jackson, should bounce back if healthy, a coaching change can only help.

Honorable Mention: Westbrook, I don't think he's done yet, but 2007 looks like his peak.

WR:

1. Wayne, expect Marvin to be gone and Wayne to see increased work like in 07'.

2. Marshall, only getting better, sky is the limit.

3. Fitzgerald, I'd have him 1st if I trusted Warner as much as Manning or Cutler.

4. A. Johnson, like Fitz, I don't trust his QB enough to rank him higher.

5. Calvin Johnson, same as AJ.

Honorable Mention: Smith, same deal as the 3 above him.

TE:

1. Gates, no reason not to have him first.

2. Witten, I'm slightly concerned that he won't see as many targets with Roy around.

3. Winslow, Quinn helps, I'm going to assume he stays in Cleveland.

4. Scheffler, all he has to do is stay healthy.

5. Cooley, very consistent.

Honorable Mention: Gonzalez, he has to decline one of these years right? Will it be in 09'.

Brady, IF he doesn't have another knee setback over the next 9 months.

Warner, IF he stays healthy over the next 6 weeks. And doesn't hang it up...while he can still walk.

Megatron, IF he gets a real QB.

Marshall, IF he stays out of trouble.

Moss, IF the above note on Brady holds true.

S-Jax, IF about a million things get fixed in StLouie

AJohnson, IF Schaub can bounce back from injury

Portis, IF he doesn't get ground into hamburger by Zorn during their drive to the postseason here in '08.

With props to Kipling, I believe that IF is the key word with all of these guys, with way too many questions and not enough answers looking ahead to 2009.

I'll laugh at anyone who takes the injury-prone Steven Jackson as one of the first five RBs in '09.
I'll laugh at anyone who makes 2009 redraft projections in November of 2008.
The season is more then half over. I have no problem projecting 2009. You really think the last 6 games will reshape the FF landscape? If you weren't interested in talking about 2009, don't click the thread. Your piss stinks.

Id really like to see some love here for Anquan at wr. I dont care where he plays, baltimore, tennessee, cleveland, wherever. He just is gonna produce. And if he stays in ari and warner doesnt remember how to fumble the football, hes wr1 this year and next.

At running back there should be some love also for michael turner. guy is rb4 in standard non ppr leagues and he can only get better as ryan and roddy do i rec.

MB3 at least honorable mention if not top 5
:missing: Barber is on pace for 300+ carries and 1200+ yards this year. 8 touchdowns in 11 games this year without Romo for 3 games, he easily makes the list. Steven Jackson, I'm not buying. :(

Another question ... will Boldin be in Arizona? He made good this year by playing instead of sitting out in his contract dispute. I would bet the bank that he starts playing hardball after the season and forces the issue with Arizona. I don't think Arizona can afford to rip up his contract (signed through 2010) and also give him Fitzgerald money, so you would think he might get traded? I don't think anyone knows what will happen, but as a Boldin owner in both my leagues, I have no problem with him being excluded from the Top 5 for 2009 since we have no good idea where he will be playing (if not in Arizona, then I don't expect his numbers to be as good as this year in 2009).

I didn't get it this year, let alone next year.

Not much will change between now and the end of December...but a lot will change from February to May.

 Some of us are in keeper leagues (not dynasty) and making trades that could afffect our keepers next season. I find this type of discussion helpful.

QB - what does Rivers have to do to get some respect? He's top 5 this year, and will probably be throwing more next year. At least deserves an honorable mention above Schaub or Ryan.

Not sure why you would consider Wayne a joke at 2. The last two years he has finished #2 and #4.
And this year he will slide down more.. look at the pattern the man is on the decline. Anyone who says Wayne in the top 3 obviously has him on their team.
But less comment on those listing T.O. in their top 5? He has barely been in my starting lineup this year. Look at Wayne's schedule, and tell me he won't make a serious run at #2 this year.

What is this pattern you speak of?

Him again!?! He's either posting in every forum I've ever visited or driving in front of me. Why can't we get rid of that guy? :goodposting:

 Not sure how you are coming to that conclusion but its more than a little flawed. What pattern are you talking about, he finished higher in the fantasy ranks in 06', but he had better numbers in 07'. This season is almost a mirror image of his 06' season despite the fact that he was playing the first month or so with an obviously rusty Manning. Plus, Marvin will almost certainly be gone after this season. I can't find a single thing wrong with having Wayne in a top-3. Perhaps you are a wishful Gonzalez owner?

When going through an exercise like this you can't put too much stock in what players have done THIS year. For instance, would you have predicted the following top 2008 players to date at this time LAST YEAR?

QB: Warner, Brees, Cutler, Rodgers, Rivers (no Manning, no Brady, no Palmer, no Romo)

RB: Portis, Peterson, Gore, Thomas Jones!, Jacobs (no LT, no Bush, no Jackson, no Westbrook, no Addai)

WR: Boldin, Fitzgerald, White, Johnson, Jennings (no Moss, no TO, no Marshall, no Edwards)

Half of the players leading through 2008 will not be doing so in 2009. Obviously injury plays a big role in this but some of this can be expected to happen (Manning, Jackson this year).

LT over Forte in PPR? :bag: LT's days as a top 5 RB are over.
We will find out this weekend. If he can't produce against a crappy Colts run defense then..... :bye:

That what they said about the Chiefs two weeks ago, i dont think his 3.5 YPC against them really cuts it.

QB:

Brees, will get his WRs healthy and remain an eliete QB.

Brady, betting he will recover from the knee well.

Warner, assuming he doesn't retire.

Rogers, another year in the a system as the start and loaded with weapons.

E. Manning, betting on him taking a big move up in fantasy circles.

RB:

Portis, safest RB out there to finish in the top 5 IMO.

Barber, great back in a great offense.

Gore, centerpiece of his team but injuries always a concern

Brown, with a full season under his belt post-knee he'll show big improvment.

Peterson, great back in great offense.

WR:

R. Moss, with Brady back so comes a legit long ball pass.

Fitz, great offense and great WR no matter who is throwing the ball.

Jennings, great scheme and great playmaker.

R. White, this guy will continue to grow along with Ryan.

Boldin, would be #1 if his future was certain.

1. Manning

2. Brees

3. Cutler

4. Warner

5. Manning

RB:

1.Peterson

2.L.T.

3Gore

4.one of the Williams

5.Turner

WR:

2.Fitz

3.Boldin

4.Marshall

5. Colston

TE

1.Witten

2.Gates

Classy... but why wouldn't the last 6 games have an effect on 2009?

QB.

1. Manning. Safest bet

2. Warner. Old man keeps gettin it done.

3. Brees. Playmakers around him, Talent, and good coaching.

4. Rodgers. Keeps getting better.

5. Cutler. See Brees' comments.

HM: Brady

RB

1. Gore. He's stayed mostly healthy since he's gotten to SF.

2. ADP

3. Chris Johnson. Strong running team plus talent.

4. Maurice Jones Drew. I think this is Fred Taylors last season.

5. Marion Barber. Would be 4 without Felix Jones on the roster.

HM: Ronnie Brown

WR.

1. Randy Moss. I'd put Brady at #6, and Moss is still the elite talent at the position.

2. Anquan Boldin. Can't argue with what this guy is doing right now.

3. Larry Fitzgerald. I think there's enough room for both to dominate in Arizona.

4. Greg Jennings. All he does is produce big numbers.

5. Calvin Johnson. Getting it done right now with horrible QBs. Probably more of the same next year.

HM: Many, but I like Marshall and Steve Smiths' chances to be #1 overall.

TE:

1. Witten

2. Gonzo. Still getting it done

3. Winslow

4. Daniels

5. Scheffler

HM: Keller

5. Palmer

RB

1. AP

2. BJ

3. Jackson

From the gut, more so than the head

QB:

1. Brees - he's still underrated in some circles, not here

2. Brady - assuming health

3. Peyton - bounce back year

4. Romo - depending somewhat on TO

5. Ben - I know, I know, but he has the skill

HM: Rodgers - probably the second best QB to follow a legend, I'm impressed with this kid's chutzpah

RB:

1. Peterson - no comment needed

2. Johnson - takes more of the load next year

3. Lynch - I'm probably completely wrong on this one

4. Portis - safer pick than anyone else

5. Gore - probably should be higher

HM: Barber - see Gore

WR:

1. Moss - see Brady

2. Jennings - I love this kid

3. Marshall - all the talent in the world

4. Boldin - Warner makes him, Leinart would break him

5. White - amazing what a competent QB can do

HM: Johnson - see White

TE:

1. Witten - one of the easier picks

2. Gates - maybe more 1b?

3. Cooley - see Brees

4. Winslow - Quinn helps him, big time

5. Scheffler - IF he ever stays healthy

HM: Olsen and Gonzo - opposite directions in their career
