I would never listen to Mikey Miss when it comes to stats. A buddy of mine runs the website (Sorry but I'm not trying to spam the website but giving some info) on Talksports Philly emailed him about an article on contracts for the Phils Miss wrote for the Daily News last month. Buddy pointed out all of the numbers he had wrong and his total for budget was wrong by a landslide. Emailed Mikey that he'd hope someone who can get contract info in his job status would take advantage of that. Miss apparently didn't like what my buddy wrote and went on a profanity laced insult of my friend by email. My buddy posted some of the comments in his FB status of the blogs page and many people were shocked how Misinelli acted as unprofessional. Lashed out on another guy who got involed who told Miss he needed to calm down and was acting like a fool. Anyway long story short Miss never apologized and kept making excuses how he talked to Cole Hamels agent Casey Close. My friend got Close's # through one of Cole's PR people when he saw the article and Close and my buddy did a 1 on 1 interview where Close told him he never told Mikey Miss a thing, he appreciate my boy standing up for him and his client and he'd personally talk to Mikey about not only his behavior but talk to the radio station about possible discipline. Anyway point is I'd take Mikey Miss's "stats and #s" with a grain of salt.Health and Vick has to improve in red zone. Missanelli said Vick was 3rd worst last year? Although I can't find any stats to support that claim. If those 2 things happen, the Eagles should be poised for a deep playoff run in '12Seems like only a key injury to Vick or along the OL can keep this team from being very exciting to watch this year on both sides of the ball.I hope the FO has Plan Bs for both scenarios. I don't see what the plan would be if Vick gets hurt. I don't see playoffs - especially in the NFC East - without Vick.![]()

He use to be very good and I didn't know that about him liking Lebron. I'm glad I stopped listening to all the **** measuring contests on these sports talk shows. Assuming that list is for red zone stats (it doesn't say) all that shows is Vick was 15th in pass attempts. He was tied for the most RZ INTs with 4 (doesn't show fumbles). Can we find a list of RZ QB ratings? I really don't know where to find that.He was 14th in QB rating overall last year with no 4th quarter comebacks or game winning drives. The whole point of my discussion was Vick needs to stay healthy and play better.Vick wasn't awesome in the red zone but he wasn't the worst either http://subscribers.footballguys.com/apps/datadom.php?pt=p&groupyears=0&prr=p&pos=qb&team=all&opp=all&minyr=2011&maxyr=2011&minwk=1&maxwk=17&homeroad=all&mindown=1&maxdown=4&mindist=1&maxdist=99&minfp=80&maxfp=100&mintime=0&maxtime=75&minmargin=-99&maxmargin=99&sortby=att&sortorder=desc&mintoqual=0&mincat=att%2Brsh%2Brec
With under a week until the NFL Draft, you have to expect that teams are flooding the media with misinformation, starting rumors, and playing smoke and mirrors game to gain a competitive advantage or simply to stir the pot. Because it's virtually impossible to discern the legitimate from the fabricated, addressing every one of these pieces of information is foolhardy, but there is one thing out there right now that is at least worth considering, because on the surface it actually makes some sense, whether it's remotely true or not.KJR's Dave 'Softy" Mahler tweeted a piece of information that a source had shared with him on Saturday, writing, "The rumor we heard from Jacksonville about Seattle moving up may not be a rumor. Heard from a source today that the Seahawks may try and move up. To get Fletcher Cox."Previously, the scuttlebutt had it that the Seahawks might consider trading up to #7, ostensibly to grab QB Ryan Tannehill, which naturally makes us all groan in disgust, mostly. Trading up to grab a player that shouldn't probably be drafted in the first round anyway is a pretty gross thought, but trading up to grab a possibly elite player like Mississippi State DT Fletcher Cox is a completely different story, and actually makes some sense for the Seahawks, despite mere six picks they currently own this year. Now, I'm not attempting to validate or dispute this rumor - though from memory Softy's sources have been pretty accurate, and he did tease, in a conversation with Davis, that "If I told you who I heard it from you'd buy it even more" -, but with only a few days remaining until it all goes down, I think it's certainly worth entertaining this scenario. It's similar to the approach I took with the Mark Barron-Seahawks rumor, simply stating that it's actually a pretty intriguing thought.I wouldn't be the first to pair Fletcher Cox to the Seahawks, even with the signing of Jason Jones, though currently while picking at 12 it seems very unlikely he'll be there if the Seahawks don't move up.What you get with Fletcher Cox is certainly intriguing. At 6'4, 298 - Cox ran a 4.78 40, a 7.07 3-cone drill, has 34.5" arms and a 80+" wingspan. Also, importantly - Cox had a 1.63 10-yard split, a number that scouts and teams really like to look at when it comes to pass rushers, and a number that is very, very good for a player his size (compare to Nick Perry's 1.57 10-yard split). Cox played at both defensive end and defensive tackle in 2011, registering five sacks and 57 tackles (14.5 for a loss). He would be an impact player for the Seahawks from day one, harassing quarterbacks, collapsing the pocket, stopping the run, and moving around in the Seahawks hybrid scheme. He also blocked five kicks in his career at Mississippi State. As Armando Selguero of the Miami Herald noted, "Fletcher Cox is a three-down player. He's country strong, bench-pressing 225 pounds 40 times at the NFL Combine. And he's only 21 years old."He can play the 3-tech defensive tackle as a penetrating attacker to collapse the pocket and get after the quarterback. He's long enough and quick enough at 6'4 with the 80" wingspan to play outside in different looks to rush the passer from there. He can take over for Red Bryant at the 5-tech on first downs or in obvious passing situations and rush the passer from there or drop back into short zone. He's not going to hurt the Seahawks' run defense a whole lot either, especially if he adds 10-15 pounds to his frame, as many analysts say he's capable of.Imagine a defensive line where you can rotate, and shift, according to down and distance, Red Bryant, Brandon Mebane, Alan Branch, Chris Clemons, Jason Jones, Clinton McDonald, even Dexter Davis, and the wildcard, Fletcher Cox, - changing fronts with different assignments, many times without even making substitutions. Try gameplanning for that. We've talked ad nauseam about how the Seahawks need to upgrade their pass rush, and when Derek Stephens describes Cox as a potential double-digit sack guy from the 3-tech, it certainly makes you perk up a bit.Perhaps an interior slasher and dasher with the ability to play outside as well will be more effective or more valuable than any of the defensive end or outside linebacker options we've been focused on? Each player - Quinton Coples, Melvin Ingram, and Courtney Upshaw, has big question marks attached to their names despite their obvious talents and ability. Ingram's short arms, Upshaw's lack of explosiveness, and Coples' work ethic, for instance.Regardless, being able to grab the best defensive lineman in the draft, according to many, by giving up, say, a 2nd round pick to move up five spots, may just be worth it. It's why I don't completely scoff at this notion and why I don't think it's actually very wild. With added ability to rush the passer from Fletcher and Jason Jones, the Seahawks could go into day two and three with a combination of K.J. Wright, Leroy Hill, Malcolm Smith, Matt McCoy, & Barrett Ruud at linebacker and then look to bolster that group by looking at players in the mid-rounds like Jerry Franklin, Ryan Davis, Claude Davis, Danny Trevathan, Cordorro Law, Korey Toomer or any of the other speedy middle and outside linebackers in this year' class. They also have guys like Heath Farwell, Mike Morgan, Jameson Konz, Adrian Moten, Tressor Baptiste, and even Alan Bradford waiting in the wings and I wouldn't rule out the idea that one of these players could surprise.Anyway, check out some scouting after the jump.Former NFL personnel exec Tony Softli published his scouting report on the top five defensive linemen in the NFL Draft this year, and listed Cox #1. He said:
Cox is the most versatile defensive lineman in the 2012 draft class, thanks to his ability to align at all front positions. Excellent athletic skill set, size and combination of quickness and speed. Very good strength and explosion with strong UOH (use of hands). Is competitive and aggressive with terrific toughness, boasting linebacker-like movement skills to hunt, seek and destroy.Cox's motor runs hot, and his disruptiveness as a DT (defensive tackle) is a credit to his initial quickness out of stance with up-the-field explosion; runs around blockers with quickness or targets shoulder and charges up field as an interior pass rusher. Good FBI (football instincts) to locate ball carrier, and is adept at laterally chasing and pursuit to flatten down LOS (line of scrimmage) with second effort to leave feet. Recognizes screens with chase down production.Good double arm bar stack at POA (point of attack); strong hands to grab, steer and tilt blockers. Slow to disengage at times as interior lineman. Can snap hips with explosion and plays with very good leverage. Inconsistent to split and anchor consistently vs. double team; will need further weight room strength development (in lower body) that will transfer to on-field functional strength. Plays with very good read reaction quickness, COD (change of direction) to stick foot in ground with burst to ball. DE (defensive end) with raw skills off edge; playing on pure athletic ability, which is excellent. Will need more consistent hand combat and further development. Can turn speed into power, flip hips with burst on up field shoulder, with very good body balance and control. An explosive tackler with collision and wrap, diving effort production. Watched eight games on this player not because I needed to, but because I enjoyed it so much. The sky is the limit for this early out junior. A great toy to have on the defensive line to align at 3-4 DE, 4-3 DE or DT.
OK, here's what I found on NFL.com. Looking up player stats and clicking on 'situational stats', I found QB ratings by field position. Using 'Opp 19-1 yard line', only 4 QBs (who started at least 9 games) had a lower rating:Carson Palmer (62.5)Tim Tebow (65.4)Sam Bradford (66.1)Cam Newton (70.6)Michael Vick (71.9)Vick was 3rd worst in the NFC. So yeah, Vick has some room to improve. Only a rookie, 2 2nd year players and a QB who didn't play the first 6 weeks of the season before being traded were worse.Other notables:Blaine Gabbert (76.3)Colt McCoy (78.8)Mark Sanchez (85.1}Matt Cassel (102.4)Rex Grossman (85.0)Edited because I missed Tebow.Vick wasn't awesome in the red zone but he wasn't the worst either http://subscribers.footballguys.com/apps/datadom.php?pt=p&groupyears=0&prr=p&pos=qb&team=all&opp=all&minyr=2011&maxyr=2011&minwk=1&maxwk=17&homeroad=all&mindown=1&maxdown=4&mindist=1&maxdist=99&minfp=80&maxfp=100&mintime=0&maxtime=75&minmargin=-99&maxmargin=99&sortby=att&sortorder=desc&mintoqual=0&mincat=att%2Brsh%2Brec

PHILADELPHIA -- Michael Vick couldn't believe DeSean Jackson said the diva days are behind him. The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback did a double take, started laughing and then asked if he actually used the word "diva."
OK, no, he didn't. But when someone else did, the 25-year old receiver started shaking his head. And when the word was used again, he put up his hand and said, "I'm just glad to get that all over with and move forward with my life and my career. And hopefully this year win a Super Bowl."
So, in sum, new contract in hand, you're officially done being a diva, DeSean?
"Yes," he said.
That work for you, Michael?
"I'm happy and he's happy and that's the way it should be right now," Vick said, still laughing. But there's a remarkable truth in his words, too, and in what Vick said a beat later, about having clear heads. Long gone is the man who pronounced the 2011 Eagles the "Dream Team" (see: Young, Vince); so too are the days of the Eagles believing their roster entitles them to a championship.
It was only one full-squad practice on Tuesday, but it was a lot of players echoing the same thoughts -- they have a lot to prove, there was too much off-field noise last year and things are different now. Jackson said the Eagles do better with their collective back against the wall than when they're certain of their ascension. Tight end Brent Celek off-handedly said, "There won't be talk of anything, everyone has their money." Even newcomer DeMeco Ryans said the sense of urgency was palpable to him.
"And I fit right into that," the former Houston Texans linebacker said. I have a lot to prove, too, coming in with high expectations and wanting to show I can still play."
And so, after "proving," "playing" has been the operative word in Philadelphia. Not talking, not boasting, not loafing. Veteran receiver Jason Avant put attendance for offseason conditioning at 99 percent, and Vick, pointing back at the Eagles' NovaCare Center, guessed he's spent 65 percent of his offseason minutes inside that building. There's no exercise in comparing that to other teams and quarterbacks; the point is in comparing it to the Eagles of a year ago.
Some of it is lockout-related and the same across every team: Last year's Eagles didn't all work out in Philadelphia. Therefore, they didn't all hang out and foster the closeness they've forged this year. Furthermore, they weren't accountable to each other the same way they've been this spring. Nowadays, they look to benefit from the maturity that comes with flipping a page.
"Just because we're the Philadelphia Eagles, nobody is going to lay down for us," Vick said. "Having a different attitude or mindset means you gotta be prepared and you gotta go out and give it everything you've got. Do whatever it takes to win."
Vick rued not only last year's team, but his own younger self. He said he hated to acknowledge it, but this offseason was unlike any other he's had. He's huddled with coach Andy Reid for months and spent most of Tuesday morning out on the practice field nodding at whatever Reid had to say. He said he's told Reid he wishes the Eagles had drafted him and then he acknowledged the futility of what-ifs.
"You gotta live in the now," he said. "I gotta take full advantage of the time that I have now."
Jackson said he sees that, and hears it, too. He said all his energy is focused on football, and he pledged that his teammates are, too. He highlighted how even Reid is buying in with tangible sacrifice. The coach has lost so much weight, Jackson called him "agile," teasing, "He's really able to move around with us."
Then again, maybe Jackson wasn't joking around. The competitive juices are so high right now, Jackson said he "would like to race Reid." And yes, those were his actual words.
This is the most excited I've been for a season in a long time. They have everyone signed. Any locker room problems are gone. Everyone is saying the right things and showing up for practice determined. I can't wait for camp.DeSean Jackson, Eagles eager to put nightmare year in rearview

here comes rain on the parade... the Eagles lost Jason Peters to achilles tear this spring. Don't get me wrong, Demetress Bell is good. He's way better than King Dunlap. But Peters was arguably the best offensive lineman in football. He did alot in Andy's schemes. He pulled, he reached, he screen blocked, the guy did it all with zero help from backs or tight ends. I've heard Jaws say Peters was the Eagles best player last year and it's not an exaggeration. I live around here and it seems alot of people are just glossing over the Peters/Bell swap. It's a huge step down. Huge. This is the most excited I've been for a season in a long time. They have everyone signed. Any locker room problems are gone. Don't get me wrong. That's a big loss but with a full off-season, I feel Bell will be capable enough of fulfilling the role. He may not dominate like Peters was but I think he'll suffice. Everyone else seems to be stepping their game up this year.here comes rain on the parade... the Eagles lost Jason Peters to achilles tear this spring. Don't get me wrong, Demetress Bell is good. I think JP Is overrated and underrated at the same time. Those that say it's just a linemen, or that he could be replaced, are greatly undervaluing what he did for our team this year. However I dont think this is the end of the world. Every year teams lose key players, ours happened so early that we can now adjust. I'd rather lose Peters then Mccoy, vick, even nnamdi. With another year under the entire Offenses belt and more experience, time for OTA's, etc (not to mention Wakins' improvement), I think its not a stretch to say that our offense will be very close, if not equal to last years production. But man, this D gets me excited. Carry over the success they had at the end of the season, add in double the talent on D, and some time to gel and I think it totally is an upgrade overall.I think this years defense will be better then the giants' last year, and our offense will still even without peters be as good as their offense last year. We get hot at the right time plus a little bit of luck and there's no reason we can't win 12 games and win 2 playoff games and get to the SB.here comes rain on the parade... the Eagles lost Jason Peters to achilles tear this spring. I don't think anyone has downplayed how bad of a loss Peters was. If there's a positive to it at all, it's that it happened when it did and allowed us to get an adequate replacement either through the draft or FA. I'm confident that they'll be able to get some good play from whoever the LT's are.here comes rain on the parade... the Eagles lost Jason Peters to achilles tear this spring. Losing Peters is a big loss, but its not a season-killer for the Eagles. Not when it occurred in March. It was one setback in an otherwise very successful off-season. Let's hope that's the only major injury they will have to overcome, although odds are there will be others as the season goes along and they will have to deal with those as well - just like every other NFL team will.I am optimistic for a deep playoff run here in year AR14.I don't know how anyone could say JP is overrated or discount the impact that this team is going to feel losing him. I don't have time right now but I will try to find the stats... he has allowed something like 4 sacks and 10 hurry ups in the last two years and is ranked as the overall best pass blocking LT in the game. Oh and also, watch any Shady highlights and see what JP is doing..I'd bet that 65-75% of his big runs/screens go to the left side with Peters plowing the road. With the exception of Vick and possibly McCoy he is the hardest player on that team to replace, IMHO.
I have confidence in Kafka for 3 games. Any more than 3 games for vick being out and we're screwed anyway. Edwards seems like a foregone conclusion to be gone. He wasn't in the league for a few years. I don't think he's going to make the team.QB SITUATION:The QB situation seems to be clearing itself up, with Kafka the clear #2. However, I really don't see us cutting Foles since we drafted him so high, nor do I see us keeping 4 QBs. So does this mean Edwards is pretty much a lock to be cut? What other scenarios would there be where he stays? Also read today that Garcia wants to play for us and would PAY US to take him haha. Obviously this is a long shot, but how does everyone feel with Kafka/Foles being behind an injury prone Vick? Not exactly a lot of experience there. I mean I know Yates took Houston on a nice little run, but it seems strange to not have a veteran at all. Maybe we will keep 4, or maybe we cut Edwards but will make a quick call to sign him mid season should something happen to Vick.
The Philadelphia Eagles tied the Minnesota Vikings for a league-best 50 sacks last season.
Jason Babin led the way for Philly with 18 individual takedowns. Trent Cole was second with 11, but he isn't eyeing another silver ribbon in 2012.
The Philadelphia Eagles tied the Minnesota Vikings for a league-best 50 sacks last season.
Jason Babin led the way for Philly with 18 individual takedowns. Trent Cole was second with 11, but he isn't eyeing another silver ribbon in 2012.
"Eighteen sacks," Cole told the Philadelphia Inquirer when asked to predict this year's total.
He then paused and bumped that up to 19.
Cole, at last, feels comfortable in defensive line coach Jim Washburn's wide-nine scheme, which he spent most of last season adjusting to.
"It took me to the end of the year to really catch on. I struggled with it," Cole said. "Not just me, I can talk for other people as well."
It's a common theme from Eagles defenders coming off a disappointing 8-8 record. As high as expectations were last season, we saw the new pieces on this roster stumble out of the gate. Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie were learning on the fly in the defensive backfield and Cole was doing the same up front.
A full offseason has helped. Philly's deep stable of defensive tackles and edge rushers make the Eagles a good bet to improve upon last year's sack total. Cole is one of the most entertaining rushers in the game; paired up with Babin, they represent a mega-headache for opposing quarterbacks. Nineteen sacks is quite a prediction, but Cole is part of a improved defensive unit that could help make that possible.
I would think so. They're currently the 7th Defense under ADP right now, so it wouldn't be all that much of a flyer. Might lose some play making ability from Samuel, but should improve on points allowed if your league allows for that. Why? Defense was great at end of the year, full year of OTA's with all this new talent we brought in, addressed LB situation, should be more consistent shutting down wr's with drc/nnamdi, and perhaps one of the best/deepest Dlines, and an extra year under washburns system so they all know how to play it now. I think sacks will go up, touchdowns will go down, and points allowed will go down. So I think overall a small upgrade, and probably deserving of a #5-#10 Def fantasy wise.Is this defense going to be better and worth a flyer for fantasy purposes? Why will they improve?
In the NFL or on the EaglesI think Maclin finishes as a Top 5 WR this season.

I do expect (as does everyone) a big year from him. 1300 seems a bit high though. Just too many options to go around. Celek has slimmed down and looks to be more involved catching the ball, desean will still get his touches, avant is still very consistent, and i think Mcnutt is going to get some of the red zone looks. I still think Maclin will ahve a career year and lead the eagles in receiving, but I think around WR10 is more where he'll end up. 88, 1190, 11 tds.In fantasy football ppr leagues. He's ready. Garcia is a much more polished QB who has the skill set and all to run your typically run Bill Walsh West Coast Offense which the Eagles did do with Garcia at QB with good results. If Vick's deal wasn't guaranteed I would have been all for trading him before or during the draft and putting Garcia in there. Since this obviously can't happen now I'm all for signing Garcia now and letting go both Edwards and Kafka.QB SITUATION:The QB situation seems to be clearing itself up, with Kafka the clear #2.

Not at all. I never see Vick winning a Super Bowl due to his style of play. Garcia is the typical QB you want to run the WC offense the way it's suppose to be run. I wished we had kept him as a back up when McNabb as he may have been able to teach him how to properly run the system. It's not like Andy doesn't know how to work the WC as it's suppose because he did with Feeley and Garcia out there.Sarcasm?Garcia is a much more polished QB who has the skill set and all to run your typically run Bill Walsh West Coast Offense which the Eagles did do with Garcia at QB with good results. Not trying to be mean, but sounds like you know absolutely nothing about football or your team. You just made me flashback to the lost superbowl season of 1991.The Combination of Kotite as coach, a QB tandem of Cunningham (out in the first game of the season)/McMahon/Goebel/Kemp/Pat Ryun, plusa two headed monster of James Joseph (3.3 yds/att) and Heath Sherman (2.6 yds/att) in the backfield, was enough to derail perhaps the #1 defense of the 16 game schedule era. I weep when I think of that season and what could have been.C'mon guys stop messing around. We all know who we really need is Brad Goebel.

The Philadelphia Eagles ranked 31st in kickoff return average (20.9 yards per return) in 2011 and their longest return of the season (33 yards) was worst in the league. Punt returns weren't much better, as the team averaged 7.1 yards per return (tied for 27th in the league) and had nearly as many fair catches (28, tied for the most in the league) as returns (30).
All that was unacceptable for Eagles special teams coordinator Bobby April.
"We were terrible," April said Tuesday, according to Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News. "We had terrible results. ... It’s hard to put a finger on, we were just really inept. I can only say the ineptitude comes from me, because what we were asking guys to do, they were unable to perform it. Either they couldn’t or they wouldn’t.
"In either case, that’s a mistake by me. ... We were really poor, the poorest I can remember in a long time. Just nothing. We made nothing happen."
The Eagles began revamping their return game during April's draft when they selected Georgia cornerback Brandon Boykin, who averaged 24.2 yards per kickoff return with four touchdowns. Boykin also averaged 12.8 yards with one touchdown on punt returns.
The Eagles also signed Damaris Johnson, a 5-foot-7, 175-pound undrafted free agent wide receiver from Tulsa who is the NCAA all-time leader in all-purpose yardage (7,796).
Johnson had nearly 4,000 return yards in 40 career games, averaging more than 25 yards per kick return and 12 yards per punt return with four total touchdowns (two on kicks, two on punts). Johnson was suspended for his senior season following an arrest on an embezzlement charge. (Johnson pleaded guilty, received a one-year deferred sentence, a $500 fine and 80 hours of community service.)
Bowen noted that April had a lot to do with the Johnson signing. There's nothing unusual about an NFL team taking a chance on an undrafted free agent with a red flag or two. What is interesting, and perhaps telling for how much of a priority improving the return game is in Philadelphia, is the signing bonus and financial guarantee the Eagles gave a player who did not play a down in 2011.
According to a source with knowledge of the contract, Johnson received a signing bonus of $15,000 and an additional $2,000 base salary guarantee for the 2012 season. While it won't guarantee a roster spot, the source added that Johnson's signing bonus was the largest the Eagles paid any undrafted free agent this season, and the total guarantee of $17,000 was one of the highest among this year's total crop of rookie free agents.
