I watched the entire presser last night and thought Andy did a great job. Everything he said was candid, logical and perfectly reasonable. Good on him, and good on Lurie for not being a "typical fan."

I'm gonna assume you're just trying to stir the pot. Drum up some conversation in here.

There is a distinct differance between blind "Rah-Rah" support and "they're going this way, I hope it works, go EAGLES" type of support. A negative attitude at this point is not going to help change a dang thing. A positive attitude by the fans would be better for both the team AND THE FAN.

My opinion of his press conference is neither positive nor negative, it is realistic. Furthermore, if I did have a negative attitude, I do not see in any way why that should impact other fans (you) or the team. Likewise if I had a positive attitude

Can we please not pretend that this off-season is any different then the past 4?

What did you want AR to say? How many successful coaches in the nfl throw their players or coaches under the bus? I sure do get tired of the WIP mentality that many Eagle fans seem to have.

See this is the #### that pisses me off. Everything is just going from one extreme to the other. Reid says nothing....we want more...and the Reid enthusiasts immediately think we want all out, full blown details and slamming of people. Here's an idea, how about meeting halfway? I know it's an odd thought but that's pretty much what we're looking for....we're not looking for middle ground of the slim (this weeks presser) and none (the past 14 years pressers) that we're accustomed to.I wouldn’t consider it a WIP attitude. Not to be a ####, but some of us are probably a little tired of eating the same old #### over and over and over. I honestly can't wrap my head around any fan with a positive outlook at this time about this team and coaches. You have seen NOTHING for the past 7 years to even justify your optimism and it's only based on excuses, "what if's" and hope that we could have been the Giants this year...the feeling of the "WIP attitudes" is more justified then any blind optimist posting here...

This is exactly the way I feel. The blind faith crowd is more baffling than the fire everybody crowd. At least you get where the fire everybody crowd is coming from. They're fed up with mediocrity and are lashing out in anger because of being hurt for so long. The blind faith crowd really has nothing to pin their hopes to. It is literally blind faith that Andy will suddenly do something he hasn't done during his whole time as a head coach. 95% of fans are way closer to the middle than that fringe 5% but those 2 extremes seem to lump those against them as the opposite faction.

I have no problems with his press conference. But to cite the Eagles numbers and rankings for the last 7 years and conclude they've been successful is a stretch. Division wins are nice if you're the Lions or Dolphins. Year 13 of a coach's tenure should have a higher level of expectations. Thirteen years in, we need post-season success not regular season success. Win in the post-season or step aside. And honestly, his regular season record since '04 is not impressive. Averaging less than 9 wins per season. A sharp decline from his first 6 years - those are the years he made his reputation.ETA: Please don't lump me in with the WIP crowd. Say Andy resigned/stepped down 7 years ago.All other things being the same, would it be fair to say you would be happier with the last 7 years if someone other than Andy was the coach? So since the coach has been the same for 13 years, the last 7 years are somehow less of an accomplishment?

If Andy had won the superbowl 8 years ago, would the last 7 years, as they have played out, somehow be better?

Would year 13 of the coach's tenure have any less of an expectation on it because he won a superbowl in year 6?

I've asked the same question when I hear Andy's 'untouchable'. If it were another coach over the last 7 years, would that resume say he's an elite coach? So to answer your question, I'd be just as unhappy. how many other coaches actually get 7 years to win, let alone 14? Not many. Five of the last 7 years have resulted in zero playoff wins. The one year they were successful ('08) it took a double-back-door miracle to even make the post-season.And this reasoning about who else could the Eagles hire that would be more successful, well I understand championship coaches are hard to find. That doesn't mean you stop looking. Most of the Super Bowl's during Andy's tenure have been won by coaches hired after him. So yes, Super Bowl winning coaches can be found.And I'm sorry, but hiring your unqualified O-line coach to be your DC for a championship caliber team is just weird. And it cost them big time in 2011.

I always root for them to win. I'm an Eagles fan. Not an "Andy Reid" fan. When Andy does leave I will still be an Eagles fan. This team has not been successful under Reid in a long time.

I want them to succeed regardless who's coaching.

Saying we've got nothing in 7 years is EXACTLY the WIP mentality.Nothing?We've made the playoffs four times, won our division three times, and gone to an NFC Championship game in that span. That's nothing?

I still have a problem with the idea that this last idea is a fact. A new coordinator with 5 or 6 new starters and virtually no off-season is enough to make any Defense struggle.Too many in here are tending to lump folks into one extreme (blind rah-rah) or the other (won't be happy with anything but Andy's firing right now). By right now...I mean TODAY.

I know Jason isn't a blind rah rah guy, nor am I. But we've accepted the fact that Andy WILL BE BACK, and we're moving past that to see the positives and not dwell on the negatives that aren't changing. I think hiring Juan was a screw-up, but IT IS NOT PROVEN that he's a failure, at least not at this point...so why harp on it? There really are good reasons to hope for this team, and if you have no hope...then why bother even watching? If you have no hope...go away instead of dragging down those with it.

My distaste for Reid and the way the team is run has nothing to do with me sitting down every Sunday and rooting for the birds. And then following every tidbit of information from Monday to Saturday, and sitting down on Sunday and rooting for the birds again.

We have people that are gloom and doom all the time (delusional) but for the most part everyone in here hopes that the Eagles can improve. When we cite areas where the management and coaching staff has failed to improve and refuses to recognize as an area of weakness, why then are we branded as people that want to see the team crash and burn? There's a difference between a battered wife that thinks her husband will change and one that sees whats going on and demands a divorce.

In February even the Browns and Rams and Bucs are feeling good about things. What's happening in this thread? Hate for a press conference that -- for the life of me -- I can't see why it was worthy of criticism. Or still showing anger over the OWNERS decision about what to do with HIS team. The year we drafted Kolb, I wasn't happy. Thought it was a waste to use a 2nd rounder that year on a QB. When we got rid of McNabb I wasn't happy. Never though Kolb was legit. I complained. But once the decisions were made? I got past it. Once Kolb became our guy, he was my guy...until he wasn't. And I rooted my ### off for him. I get the idea that some think Reid should be gone. And I'm on record as saying that firing Reid this year would've been understandable. I also get, more than most, the pain of watching your team fall short -- live and in person -- so many times. It SUCKS. But what's done is done. Andy is our coach for 2012. Is that THE BEST option? That's obviously subject to debate, but it's the reality at this point. And we can ABSOLUTELY say that Andy as HC is much better than a great many alternatives. Again, maybe it's not THE BEST, but he's certainly better than a huge percentage of the other possibilities. And Juan is our DC. Am I giddy about that? No, of course not. But it's the reality. So I'm going to root my butt off and hope that the improvement we saw down the stretch really was a byproduct of his scheme taking hold and not because we were playing bad teams.

I could live with balance in this thread, I really could. I could live with "I'm upset about A but am happy with B." But many people seem hellbent on pointing out the negative aspects of every nuance of this team. And I can't FATHOM how that makes for fun Sundays. Just wired differently, it seems.

Because the end all, be all is that I (I'm sure like the others here) LOVE football.Make no mistake about it, I understand your point and a part of me wishes I was more like you. I have been optomistic for a very, very long time but now it's at the point where I feel as if I am reading the same book for the 14th time and trying to recapture that excitment from the first time, it's not easy.The flaming is BS...same as the other guy calling people a "fraud" because of a different opinion. I think the reason those teams are so optimistic is because they have the possibility for change. New coaches, new regimes bring the hope that something good will come of it. San Fran this year, KC last year or Miami in 08 for example had relative new coaching staffs and found a way to turn it around. Fan bases have reason to be hopeful because the see examples of other teams turning it around. Whether success is sustained or fleeting is the next level they take but those fans are hopeful because they know that 2-14 is at the bottom of where they can be. It also helps when a franchise has had a Super Bowl win in their lifetime (Stl, TB). We have the same guy we've had for the last 13 years. We know what we have. He's going to get us 7 to 11 wins and maybe a first round playoff win. We're going to have an offense that scores a lot of points with finesse and a defense that pads stats against bad teams. We know whats going to happen because we've seen it. Until Reid does something out of character, I'm going to assume this is the same Andy Reid that has coached here for the previous 14 years.

There really isn't that many people doing that. Its basically just delusional and maybe 1 or 2 others. Others are just sighting the negatives in the hope that maybe they will actually do something to change it to a positive. One can dream can't they?

I have no problems with his press conference. But to cite the Eagles numbers and rankings for the last 7 years and conclude they've been successful is a stretch. Division wins are nice if you're the Lions or Dolphins. Year 13 of a coach's tenure should have a higher level of expectations. Thirteen years in, we need post-season success not regular season success. Win in the post-season or step aside. And honestly, his regular season record since '04 is not impressive. Averaging less than 9 wins per season. A sharp decline from his first 6 years - those are the years he made his reputation.ETA: Please don't lump me in with the WIP crowd. Say Andy resigned/stepped down 7 years ago.All other things being the same, would it be fair to say you would be happier with the last 7 years if someone other than Andy was the coach? I've asked the same question when I hear Andy's 'untouchable'. If it were another coach over the last 7 years, would that resume say he's an elite coach? So to answer your question, I'd be just as unhappy. how many other coaches actually get 7 years to win, let alone 14? Not many. Five of the last 7 years have resulted in zero playoff wins. The one year they were successful ('08) it took a double-back-door miracle to even make the post-season.And this reasoning about who else could the Eagles hire that would be more successful, well I understand championship coaches are hard to find. I've never said anything about having no hope. Every season brings renewed hope. But it diminishes as the seasons progress and you see the same shortcomings year after year. And now the team has stopped progressing and has regressed 3 straight years. They are trending the wrong way. My hope for 2012 is that they make a strong push for a championship (make it to the NFCCG) or there will be major changes. Whether that includes Andy is yet to be seen. But I think even Roseman is under some pressure as well.I just don't have blind devotion to Andy Reid. If they had the same lack of success under 3 different coaches, I'd still be hoping for improvement. I get tired of hearing about how crazy Philly fans are for wanting change. We have people that are gloom and doom all the time (delusional) but for the most part everyone in here hopes that the Eagles can improve. It's been driven insane by the incessant, unending negativity that pervades our fan base. It's mind boggling. Do you listen to Sirius NFL radio ever by chance? Because if you do, you would recognize that just about every other team's fan base is more optimistic about their teams, even those with no reason to be. In February even the Browns and Rams and Bucs are feeling good about things. What's happening in this thread? Hate for a press conference that -- for the life of me -- I can't see why it was worthy of criticism. Or still showing anger over the OWNERS decision about what to do with HIS team. The year we drafted Kolb, I wasn't happy. Thought it was a waste to use a 2nd rounder that year on a QB. When we got rid of McNabb I wasn't happy. Never though Kolb was legit. I complained. But once the decisions were made? I got past it. Once Kolb became our guy, he was my guy...until he wasn't. And I rooted my ### off for him. I get the idea that some think Reid should be gone. And I'm on record as saying that firing Reid this year would've been understandable. I also get, more than most, the pain of watching your team fall short -- live and in person -- so many times. It SUCKS. But what's done is done. Andy is our coach for 2012. Is that THE BEST option? That's obviously subject to debate, but it's the reality at this point. And we can ABSOLUTELY say that Andy as HC is much better than a great many alternatives. Again, maybe it's not THE BEST, but he's certainly better than a huge percentage of the other possibilities. And Juan is our DC. Am I giddy about that? No, of course not. But it's the reality. So I'm going to root my butt off and hope that the improvement we saw down the stretch really was a byproduct of his scheme taking hold and not because we were playing bad teams.

Andy Reid is here. The coaching staff is set. The systems are pretty much in place. It’s time to start looking at players. Who will be on this roster in 2012, because the rest of it is a 2011 do-over.

I prefer to look at things from a positive perspective. I want to root for the positive outcome. I want to believe we have a shot, because, honestly, I think we do - as do most teams when the season starts, no matter how much a long shot.

The press conference was neither ‘awesome’ nor ‘terrible’. The reactions are what confuse me.

I didn’t love his press conference or hate it… it was an end of season address where Andy admits he has to do better and 2011 was not good enough. We all knew that – we now know Andy knows that, although I don’t think that was ever in question. It was a formality; the closing of one season, the start of another.

The harping on Juan, I mean, it’s old. It’s done – been done, for a while now. It is what it is, can we please move past #####ing about it at every turn? I’d rather believe that maybe there is something there. That Andy isn’t so stupid to leave him there - to have put him there - that it couldn’t work.

Lot of things impacted how 2011 turned out. The lockout, Juan, DJax, Asante, many new players on defense along with many new coaches… in the end, it was tough to overcome ALL of that COMBINED.

But 2011 is done. It’s the past. It has no bearing on 2012. That’s brand new. Leave the frustrations of the past in the past. Live in the present and stop being so down – so negative. Unthinkable things can happen.

I'm going to assume signing Evan Mathis is a major priority, and the big X factor is what we decide to do with DeSean. As usual we have plenty of draft picks, and would think that the linebacking position and offensive tackle would be priorities.

Yeah, when I say doesn't need replacing I mean getting someone else of that caliber. But a draft pick who can return kicks and be a serviceable receiver would be perfect.

If I thought a big payday would have him recapture his dynamism and willingness to take a hit, I would push to pay the man. Anyway, offseason priorities in my mind:

2. Re-sign Mathis. He was one half of the best left side of an OL in the NFL.

4. Trade Asante. Put two press corners (DRC and Aso) on the outside and scheme towards that.

5. New contract for McCoy.

6. Re-sign DJ. This is complex. DJ is a one of a kind talent. This last year, he was playing timid. Is it because he didnt have the security of a long term contract or is it because he had one concussion to many? Hard to say. Ideally, give the man some money and an incentive laden contract. The impact of DJ goes beyond his catches. Just ask any of the safeties playing 20 yards off because he's on the field. If not resigning DJ, consider Joe Adams in the 3rd round.

I've spent the entire season going back and forth on whether or not we should keep DeSean Jackson. On one hand, he held out at the start of an already shortened off-season because he wasn't getting paid. Then, with a whole season to prove he's worth the money he thinks he deserves, he has arguably his worst season in the NFL. His effort is so bad at times he's benched. He drops passes. He stops running routes. He skips team meetings and doesn't play.

On the other hand, he's an explosive player with speed nearly unmatched in the NFL. He's always a deep threat which opens up the field for guys like Jeremy Maclin, Brent Celek, and Jason Avant. And he finished off an amazing comeback in the Giants' own house with THE punt return. I feel like all the work from his first three seasons warranted a pay day, especially after watching guys like Michael Vick get 100 million dollar deals while he's stuck making a little over $500k. He didn't handle the situation well, but in the end, I think DeSean's too important to this team and cannot be replaced. My only concern is if he's really afraid to go over the middle of the field and take a hit. I know he got pretty shaken up two years ago after the hit by Dunta Robinson, but that's the nature of the beast. Sometimes you take a tough hit (whether legal or not). I wouldn't mind the Eagles getting a bigger target, but maybe it's time to work on Riley Cooper. He's their biggest WR at 6'3" and he's only going to be in his 3rd season. I say keep DeSean. Maclin's your #2, Avant in the slot, as mentioned, use the TE's more. I honestly never thought much of Celek, but once he started to become a target, he showed what he's capable of.

Maybe add some O-Line depth and obviously get Shady more touches, especially with screen passes.

Also, Michael Vick - I don't care if it's the only thing you do this off-season - learn how to slide.

But I think the biggest concern is defense. Get some linebackers who can tackle. Which to mean, means Luke Kuechly if they don't get Lofton or Tulloch in FA. Add another OLB to play opposite Brian Rolle. Sit Juan Castillo down and very carefully explain to him that Nnamdi is a bump and run corner. That's what he does best. Solidify the D-Line. Hopefully Brandon Graham remains healthy and doesn't end up being the bust everyone thinks he already is. I really think this team will be better with a full off-season to gel as a team. Despite competition not being elite, they still played well in the last 4 games of the year, which in the NFL, counts for something. No matter what anyone says.

I said this year that I'd never been a fan of a bad team before, but this year I was. And at the time, I truly meant it. I hope I never have to say that again.

I just don't agree with either of these.Asante is so good at what he does... There is no reason to move him unless you get an offer you just can't refuse. He graded out as ProFootball Focus' 12th best CB in the league. In this league, you need multiple CB's to fend off the Saints, Packers, and Giants. Against the 49ers & Cowboys you have Nnamdi play the TE's (maybe Saints & Packers as well). I'd even probably have him kick inside to the slot against the other teams. Basically 3 CB's start in today's defense, so we should keep the 3 good ones we have. While it may or may not be what Roseman is thinking, I hope he holds out for the best possible deal.

Desean Jackson hasn't been the same since Dunta Robinson dismantled his melon.

he just doesn't play with that moxy and toughness anymore. We need to find someone else that does. If we have to go with Riley Cooper starting this year while a rookie figures things out I would be ok with that. So many decent WR's in this years draft, there will be some steals in the mid-rounds. I could see one of 2 guys they brought in playing the WR5 role and returning punts in Gilyard or Ronald Johnson.

My first guess would be discipline. Coughlin heavily enforces his rules. The reports that he lightened up prior to the 2007 season are true but he still has some really picky rules that drive players crazy, like being 5min early for meetings, you can only wear white socks to practice and black socks only for traveling, coaches can't wear sunglasses during training camp. He's gotten rid of some things like when the team took the field they used to run out in a grid pattern and along the lines on the field, like a marching band would. Crazy that he'd use valuable practice time on that synchronized march.

The changes that turned things around a bit was Coughlin wasn't too proud to ask advice from trusted players and personnel. They told him to connect with his players and not be so cold towards them.

Coughlin asked him for a favor: “Go home and make a list of all the things you think I need to do better as a coach,” Warner recalled Coughlin saying, “and don’t hold back.” “In the list, I told him that rather than just make rules and enforce them, he had to show the players why a certain rule is important to him,” Warner said. “Look, if you tell me that I have to be at a meeting five minutes early, Kurt Warner is going to be there, because that’s the way I was as a player. I did it for my pride. I didn’t ask any questions.

“But some players aren’t like that. They want to know why. So, Tom had to tell them why: ‘Because if you come to meetings early, it means you’re fully committed to this team. It means you want to be better. It means you want to be great. It means you’re willing to get here early for your teammates.’ ”

Warner added: “If he had just told them that from the start, there wouldn’t have been a problem with 99 percent of the players in that locker room. Some would have still thought the rules were silly, but they would have said, ‘Okay, he wants us five minutes early because it’s important to him. No big deal.’ ”

Former FB Charles Way works in the front office and he gave Coughlin similar advice back then.

Coughlin still rubs players wrong, like Rolle made comments in camp that Rex Ryan is the type of coach that players want to play for. Rolle also was pointing fingers, during the season, at teammates in the secondary that blew coverages. Coughlin, Perry Fewell and Deon Grant had talks with Rolle and the defense started their turn around. Also winning fixes everything and getting a ring, I think Rolle will be very supportive of Coughlin now.

Packers last year, Giants this year. For now. It seems like everything is good for him in Philly and he prefers to stay there unless he either: A)loses his job (not looking like it) or B) Indy throws a big raise at him after the draft period is over (won't happen). He's committed to staying at least that long. Add the fact that he and his wife love the house they recently bought and it's looking like he isn't going anywhere. Back to D-Jax though. The funny thing is that they were all set to sign him to a nice contract until he flaked out and starting demanding Larry Fitz money. After hearing things from their training staff they're happy he didn't accept the contract on the table. He also thinks that, if teams courting him do their due dilligence, he'll find it hard to get any kind of contract more than three years and even that'll be pushing it.

While I don't think its "awesome," he can be replaced. Not easily but they can draft a burner at WR. My jersey curse continues. Every Philly or Eagle I've bought the jersey for is gone within 2 years. Need to start buying players I don't like.

I really don't think DJax is irreplaceable, mainly because we haven't seen DJax be the guy we thought he was for awhile. If I thought a big payday would have him recapture his dynamism and willingness to take a hit, I would push to pay the man. But at this point I don't see why a big payday will get him to play hard again.

From what I'm told, unless he takes a DEEP home town discount, he's done. They have lots of worries about stuff other than his attitude. I can't say more than that. I put it at less than a 5% chance he's back.

This is good news. I would rather see them get a guy like Bowe who has some size.

I have no problems with his press conference. But to cite the Eagles numbers and rankings for the last 7 years and conclude they've been successful is a stretch. Division wins are nice if you're the Lions or Dolphins. Year 13 of a coach's tenure should have a higher level of expectations. Thirteen years in, we need post-season success not regular season success. Win in the post-season or step aside. And honestly, his regular season record since '04 is not impressive. Averaging less than 9 wins per season. A sharp decline from his first 6 years - those are the years he made his reputation.ETA: Please don't lump me in with the WIP crowd. Say Andy resigned/stepped down 7 years ago.All other things being the same, would it be fair to say you would be happier with the last 7 years if someone other than Andy was the coach? So since the coach has been the same for 13 years, the last 7 years are somehow less of an accomplishment?

I'd say the level of expectation on Andy Reid has been the same since the first NFC Championship Game... the only level that is changing is the level of frustration and bitterness.

I've asked the same question when I hear Andy's 'untouchable'. If it were another coach over the last 7 years, would that resume say he's an elite coach? So to answer your question, I'd be just as unhappy. how many other coaches actually get 7 years to win, let alone 14? Not many. Five of the last 7 years have resulted in zero playoff wins. The one year they were successful ('08) it took a double-back-door miracle to even make the post-season.And this reasoning about who else could the Eagles hire that would be more successful, well I understand championship coaches are hard to find. That doesn't mean you stop looking. Most of the Super Bowl's during Andy's tenure have been won by coaches hired after him. So yes, Super Bowl winning coaches can be found.

And I'm sorry, but hiring your unqualified O-line coach to be your DC for a championship caliber team is just weird. And it cost them big time in 2011.

I still have a problem with the idea that this last idea is a fact. A new coordinator with 5 or 6 new starters and virtually no off-season is enough to make any Defense struggle.Too many in here are tending to lump folks into one extreme (blind rah-rah) or the other (won't be happy with anything but Andy's firing right now). By right now...I mean TODAY.

I know Jason isn't a blind rah rah guy, nor am I. But we've accepted the fact that Andy WILL BE BACK, and we're moving past that to see the positives and not dwell on the negatives that aren't changing. I think hiring Juan was a screw-up, but IT IS NOT PROVEN that he's a failure, at least not at this point...so why harp on it? There really are good reasons to hope for this team, and if you have no hope...then why bother even watching? If you have no hope...go away instead of dragging down those with it.

Im a fire Andy guy, but today, next season, Im a give Castillo one more year. Next season is make or break for just about the entire coaching staff and offense. Will be quite a house cleaning.
