I really don't think DJax is irreplaceable, mainly because we haven't seen DJax be the guy we thought he was for awhile. If I thought a big payday would have him recapture his dynamism and willingness to take a hit, I would push to pay the man. But at this point I don't see why a big payday will get him to play hard again.

From what I'm told, unless he takes a DEEP home town discount, he's done. They have lots of worries about stuff other than his attitude. I can't say more than that. I put it at less than a 5% chance he's back.

So with all of the reports that he will be franchised I'm guessing we'll be looking to deal him and if we don't get anything we just do what we did with Trotter and cut him at the last minute?

Unless he signs the franchise tag. Then you're stuck with a 9.5M WR. Will he be happy with the 9.5M or still be PO'd because he doesn't have a long-term deal.

I think he'd be happy to have that influx of money for the next year. I'd say it would only be human to feel just a little bit relieved after the last 2 years of standing on pins and needles worrying if the next hit he takes is all over for him. With $9.5mil, he can manage that to reasonably live for the rest of his life should he never play again. He'd still be mad that he doesn't have anything long term though. Only natural. He's in a business where you get what you're worth. He feels he's worth a long term deal. Someone will probably give him one but he'll be stuck here. If he's franchised, it means the eagles want to try and move him. See what they can get if anything. I think they'd be willing to keep him for a season though. Desean would have to just bide his time for another year but he will have to produce since 2 down seasons in a row will not generate the contract he's looking for. No agent can spin that to a new team.

A lot of what comes out of trading Kolb and keeping Vick will probably stem from that draft pick. Even if the move doesn't pan out have you've seen Kolb's play in Arizona this year? I don't wish ill-will towards Kolb but he didn't look that great to me and of course, just like with the Eagles, he got hurt. I'm not saying he won't come around but to me Kolb does not look like a QB that can take a team to the Super Bowl. I still think the Eagles made the correct move. Vick might be close to where McNabb started declining but the wear and tear a body takes from playing QB in the NFL may not affect Vick since he was doing time. I agree that Vick isn't getting any younger but I think there is still plenty of tread left on the tires for at least another 2 years.

EDIT: I'm not suggesting you did anything bad; I just think your starting QB for the future is hazy when you had a very good chance to solidify it post McNabb.

EDIT2: Hell, look what Oakland traded for 32 year old Carson Palmer this past season. Vick was (and still is) seen as much more of a playmaker than Palmer.

Cincinatti recently received a 1st and conditional 2nd from Oakland this past year; there's no doubt you could have swindled a team out of their 1st Pick and rode on with Kolb.

If he stays healthy he can put up WR No. 1 numbers. 10-12 TDs and 1500 yards receiving isn't out of the realm of possibility. I do think what happens with Jackson will weigh in on it but he's an all around good enough receiver that with a full training camp he could put it all together.

Your bolded is incorrect. Vick was finishing up the final year of his contract. Unless they did a franchise and trade, they were getting nothing for him. In hindsight now it's easy to say it was the wrong move, and even that is highly debatable. But at the time, considering everything that happened, I think they did what they had to.

I think a lot of the reason the Eagles failed in 2011 was because they had too much transition in a year when there was no time to transition. New free agents, new blocking schemes, new DC and new defensive system. I think they will be much better in 2012 on defense because they will have acclimated to the system and because of the talent they got in free agency last year: Asomugha, Babin, Jenkins. Like him or not, part of the reason those players chose to sign with the Eagles is because of Michael Vick. So while it is easy to say that Vicks value as a player is declining, you also have to realize he helped your team bring in some good talent. Kevin Kolb was not going to attract those other players.And yes, I agree, the Eagles have a short window, from a QB perspective. But they admitted they went "all in" to win now. Even if it fails, that does not mean it was not the right decision to make. I think the big mistake would have been to keep Vick, and then try to build to be good 3 or 4 years from now. Kolb is still a "potential" franchise QB, and now one who appears to be injury prone. Every year that goes by that he is still "potentially great" means it is more likely that he will never live up to that potential.

I think your initial comment was a bit premature. If Kolb turns out to be great, then the Eagles probably made a mistake. However, if Kolb turns out to be mediocre or worse, then the Eagles probably made the right decision. As of right now, you can't definitively say it was a good move or a bad move for the Eagles.

Was thinking the same thing. Its either a 2013 1st rounder with a new coach or a 2013 2nd rounder under Andy. Either way, that will be the new Eagles QB.

Probably cause last year DeSean was looking for Larry Fitz-type money. This year I think what he's asking for might be way lower.Though didn't DH's buddy say that he highly doubted we resign him unless it's at a huge hometown discount?
