You guys traded 33 year old Donovan McNabb.
You guys now have Michael Vick who's about to turn 32.
Smart move.
McNabb isn't even in the league anymore... seems like a good move to me..
My post was about your "youth movement" as Quarterback. In McNabb's last year as starter, he was in-fact a participant in the playoffs; the wheels obviously fell off shortly after making the trade a very smart decision. However, Michael Vick will be nearly the same age McNabb was when his physical tools started to deteriorate. Vick's has never been a great-passer and I don't believe time will be kind to a player like him. The point of my post was that the Eagles replaced an aging QB with another aging QB and traded away a potential Franchise Quarterback.
As stated before, after this season Michael Vick will be almost the exact same age McNabb was when you guys traded him. At the time you had both Vick + Kolb under 30 - years old and all the leverage to push McNabb out of town. If Vick's game declines quickly; what's in the cupboard? Mike Kafka? While he did impress me with the playing time he had in 2011, I can't help but feel Philly misplayed their QB situation.
Misplayed? I hate the eagles being a giants fan but getting Cromartie and a second for Kolb was brilliant. You think they were better off keeping for 65m?As much as I loved the Giants this year, the eagles would have won nine or ten games if Vince young didn't play
It all depends on who they draft with the second-rounder IMO.2 - years from now, who's going to be slinging the rock in Philly? A 34 - year old Michael Vick?
3 - years from now? 4 - years? 5 - years?
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is set to become a Free Agent at 26 years old after next season. Has he shown enough to warrant the monster contract he's going to request? Remember fellas, this is a guy who was LOVED back in Arizona and a former Pro Bowl alternate; he may be looking for big-time money or might end up with a different team at the end of next season.
If Kolb fizzles out in Arizona or the Eagles hit big time with the 2nd Round Pick they acquired; I'd call it a success. Right now, they traded away a potential Franchise QB and handed the reigns away to a aging Mobile Quarterback.
I would have kept Kolb and gotten a Kings Ransom for Michael Vick.
