Effectively traded Robertson for Miller and a good draft pick.Lost Robertson..... crap.
As someone who chased crappy saves all over the South Side this season, I'm glad to see the end of the Webb/Putnam/Belisario/Petricka/Nate Jones horror showBob Nightengale @BNightengale
The #White Sox sign David Robertson and pull off trade for Samardzjia at winter meetings.
He's on with Francesa all the time and he sounds special. Like he's slurping saliva or something.Heyman is kind of a dope, no?
i think many of us Yankee fans wanted a super bullpen and sign them both. We're Yankee fansEffectively traded Robertson for Miller and a good draft pick.Lost Robertson..... crap.![]()
Just cuz of money I thinkWhy wouldn't the Yanks make a push to keep Robertson? Isn't he great?
It's almost like Beane is having a stubborn spiteful hissy fit. "See what happens when I finally go for it?! Well, I'll show you!"shadyridr said:WTF are the A's doing this offseason?
So who closes? Betances or Miller? Lefty closers are kinda quirky. Wouldn't you rather have Miller setting up Betances?i think many of us Yankee fans wanted a super bullpen and sign them both. Good question. I kind of like how Betances can go multiple innings and have Miller close instead of just using Miller for one batter. I dont think they signed him to be a lefty specialist. If Girardi was smart he would alternate depending on when the lefties come up to bat (in the 8th or the 9th) but I doubt he does that. If I had to guess now, Miller closes and Betances is the setup man.So who closes? Betances or Miller? Lefty closers are kinda quirky. Obviously not. You can't imply tone in a message but I was obviously being facetious you #### faceYou don't think they signed Miller for 36 million to be a lefty specialist?
Too bad Alabama doesnt have a MLB teamFWIW, Nightengale was on MLB Network last night after breakign the news, and he was implying that Robertson wasn't exactly itching to return to the Bronx. So there's that.
If it was a cultural issue, I'm sure he would have signed with Houston instead of Chicago. Maybe he was just tired of your fanbase's obnoxious entitlement?Too bad Alabama doesnt have a MLB teamFWIW, Nightengale was on MLB Network last night after breakign the news, and he was implying that Robertson wasn't exactly itching to return to the Bronx. Certainly could be that. I know I get tired of it and I don't even play. But it would be odd if that was the case, because it's not like anyone ever had a bad thing to say about him. Even in the rare instances that he struggled, I don't recall him being booed or anything. If it was a cultural issue, I'm sure he would have signed with Houston instead of Chicago. Well he is not a shortstop - at least hasn't played as much as 2B and 3B but Marcus Semien is a very good young playerRnR said:A's are looking for a young shortstop in return for Samardzija. <_<
Yeah, that's gotta be a BS report by Nightengale. Especially with all the help the Yankees and their fans have given to Robertson and his wife Erin's 'High Socks For Hope' foundation over the last few years. I know the Yankees donated a big chunk of change to the organization to help out after the tornadoes devastated Alabama a few years ago. I think this was simply a case of the Yanks not wanting to go that high. I don't get it, but I don't think it has anything to do with ill will or anything like that.Michael Brown said:Certainly could be that. I know I get tired of it and I don't even play. 3rd player better be good. Otherwise, that's a pretty awful haul. Especially considering they gave up Russell to get him.Well he is not a shortstop - at least hasn't played as much as 2B and 3B but Marcus Semien is a very good young playerRnR said:A's are looking for a young shortstop in return for Samardzija. <_<
They also got P Chris Bassit and a player to be named from the White Sox for Samardzija
They're now saying its 4 players and a second player coming from Oakland, no details yet.3rd player better be good. Otherwise, that's a pretty awful haul. Joe Wendle has 2B on lock down, Eeph. The deal looks worse when viewed in the context of what happened since July 31 but taken on it's own, I don't think Semien plus prospects is a terrible haul for a year of Samardzija. A lot depends on whether Semien can handle SS but they need a 2B too.
For a "low level pitching prospect" it sounds like.Cubs are getting Montero from Dbacks.
Betances is a horse. He's absolutely capable of the old Goose Gossage 3-inning save a few times every week, but that won't happen because, well.... pitchers get coddled now.shadyridr said:Good question. Probably 2. That's the hold up right now.For a "low level pitching prospect" it sounds like.Cubs are getting Montero from Dbacks.
Zack Godley and Jeferson Mejia apparently.Probably 2. That's the hold up right now.For a "low level pitching prospect" it sounds like.Cubs are getting Montero from Dbacks.

Agreed. But the only reason I would be fine with the deal is if it stops the geniuses at Yawkey from trading Betts or Bogaerts for Hamels or something. You just know if they miss out on Lester they are going to do something stupid.Sox fans are definitely OK with Lester signing elsewhere if it is north of 6/150. that is a horrible deal.
Everything I have read is that they are being very stingy with their prospects and will not give up Betts, Xander, Seifert, etc.Agreed. Seems like Theo got more than Billy when trading the same player.
