As someone who chased crappy saves all over the South Side this season, I'm glad to see the end of the Webb/Putnam/Belisario/Petricka/Nate Jones horror show

Lost Robertson..... crap.
Effectively traded Robertson for Miller and a good draft pick.
i think many of us Yankee fans wanted a super bullpen and sign them both. We're Yankee fans
So who closes? Betances or Miller? Lefty closers are kinda quirky. Wouldn't you rather have Miller setting up Betances?
Good question. I kind of like how Betances can go multiple innings and have Miller close instead of just using Miller for one batter. I dont think they signed him to be a lefty specialist. If Girardi was smart he would alternate depending on when the lefties come up to bat (in the 8th or the 9th) but I doubt he does that. If I had to guess now, Miller closes and Betances is the setup man.

FWIW, Nightengale was on MLB Network last night after breakign the news, and he was implying that Robertson wasn't exactly itching to return to the Bronx. So there's that.

Too bad Alabama doesnt have a MLB team
If it was a cultural issue, I'm sure he would have signed with Houston instead of Chicago. Maybe he was just tired of your fanbase's obnoxious entitlement?

Certainly could be that. I know I get tired of it and I don't even play. But it would be odd if that was the case, because it's not like anyone ever had a bad thing to say about him. Even in the rare instances that he struggled, I don't recall him being booed or anything.

Here have a dollar
In fact now brotherman, here have two
Two dollars means a snack for me
But it means a big deal to you

Be strong, serve God only
Know that if you do, beautiful Heaven awaits
That's the poem I wrote for the first time
I saw a man with no clothes, no money, no plate

Mr. Wendle, that's his name
No one ever knew his name 'cuz he's a no one
Never thought twice about spending on an old bum
Until I had the chance to really get to know one

Now that I know 'em, to give him money isn't charity
He gives me some knowledge, I buy him some shoes
And to think blacks spend all their money on big colleges
Still most of you come out confused

Go ahead Mr. Wendle
Go ahead Mr. Wendle

Mr. Wendle has freedom
A free that you and I think he's dumb
Free to be without the worries of a quick to diss society
For Mr. Wendle's a bum

His only worries are sickness and occasional harassment
By the police and their chase
Uncivilized we call him but I just saw him
Eat off the food we waste

Civilization, are we really civilized?
Yes or no, who are we to judge
When thousands of innocent man could be brutally enslaved
And killed over a racist grudge

Mr. Wendle has tried to warn us about our ways
But we don't hear him talk
It's not his fault when we're goin' too far and we got too far
'Cuz on him we walk

Mr. Wendle, a man, a human in flesh but not by law
I feed you dignity to stand with pride
Realize now that all in all we stand tall
Go ahead Mr. Wendle

A's are looking for a young shortstop in return for Samardzija. <_<
Well he is not a shortstop - at least hasn't played as much as 2B and 3B but Marcus Semien is a very good young player

They also got P Chris Bassit and a player to be named from the White Sox for Samardzija

Yeah, that's gotta be a BS report by Nightengale. Especially with all the help the Yankees and their fans have given to Robertson and his wife Erin's 'High Socks For Hope' foundation over the last few years. I know the Yankees donated a big chunk of change to the organization to help out after the tornadoes devastated Alabama a few years ago. I think this was simply a case of the Yanks not wanting to go that high. I don't get it, but I don't think it has anything to do with ill will or anything like that.

3rd player better be good. Otherwise, that's a pretty awful haul. Especially considering they gave up Russell to get him.

They're now saying its 4 players and a second player coming from Oakland, no details yet.

And Semien played most often at SS in AAA, its just that there's an ALEXEI blocking him for the CWS.

The deal looks worse when viewed in the context of what happened since July 31 but taken on it's own, I don't think Semien plus prospects is a terrible haul for a year of Samardzija. A lot depends on whether Semien can handle SS but they need a 2B too.

Joe Wendle has 2B on lock down, Eeph.

Betances is a horse. He's absolutely capable of the old Goose Gossage 3-inning save a few times every week, but that won't happen because, well.... pitchers get coddled now.

Samardzija deal is pretty good, that is a ton of players and years and control for 4-5 wins in 2015. Renting a player makes sense if you have a decent idea of how much you have and how much you need, but i dont get making a big move to buttress a team that may or may not be good enough to make the wildcard, let alone win the division.

I have been a Liriano fantasy stan for years, but that deal stinks. His floor is "completely unusable."

If everything is somewhat reliable and the Red Sox have offered Lester something around 6/150, then don't think the fan base can get angry if he doesn't resign with them. It would seem the Sox have made substantial efforts to resign him and 6/150 is a big offer.

Sox fans are definitely OK with Lester signing elsewhere if it is north of 6/150. that is a horrible deal.
Agreed. But the only reason I would be fine with the deal is if it stops the geniuses at Yawkey from trading Betts or Bogaerts for Hamels or something. You just know if they miss out on Lester they are going to do something stupid.

Lester has all the right to take as long as he wants to make a decision but this constant updating of decision making is tiresome. Everyday for the past week it seems it is reported he will make a decision and then it is reported to be pushed off til the next day. If you are going to draw out the process just be like Scherzer and Boras and stay quiet, everyone knows Scherzer won't sign anytime soon and it's not an issue.

Everything I have read is that they are being very stingy with their prospects and will not give up Betts, Xander, Seifert, etc.
