*2014-15 Hot Stove Thread: The Padres won it I guess (3 Viewers)

Ellsbury CF

Prado 2B

Gardner LF

McCann C

Teixeira 1B

A-Rod DH

Headley 3B

Beltran RF

Didi SS

That's not awful. Just really don't have any good middle of the order guys unless McCann bounces back or one of Ellsbury/Gardner wants to hit for more power.

200 million sure doesn't buy what it used to

Jed Lowrie back to Houston for 3/$23M with an option year. He can hold down SS until Correa arrives and then move somewhere else.

Because they can, the Dodgers sign Brett Anderson for 1/$10M plus incentives.
This hurts my heart. But good deal for him.

UZR has Prado as a - defender at 2B and a + at 3B, fwiw. Seems like a good trade candidate for someone a bit more range-y. Beltran's now a disaster with the glove, too. So many broken-down former stars, so few DH spots.

That's a whole lotta scratch for about 85 innings
$10m to a $200m payroll team is like $4m to an $80m payroll team. Which makes it a little baffling that the Royals were apparently in the mix at the end.
According to RosterResource, this puts the projected Dodgers 2015 payroll at $248M

Alexis Rios to the Royals 1/$11M.

He'll be 34 by opening day and has two good seasons out of his past six. I'm kind of surprised he's betting on himself with the short deal.

Jesus, i didnt realize that. Maybe they'll shave off a few mil when they dump Ethier?

Ethier has $56M left on his deal. Ryan Howard has $60M.

Their team TV deal alone is more than that. They'll draw 3M+ and collect their share of the league money. The only thing suppressing their payroll is the luxury tax and ownership's desired profit margin.

Brandon Morrow signs with the Padres for 1/$2.5M with a chance at an additional $6M in incentives.

Brett Anderson's agent scoffs.

Michael Morse to Miami for 2/$8M presumably to play 1B in tandem with Garrett Jones. This ought to kill off the Pedro Alvarez rumors.

Morse will always be alright in my book. He's a maddening player to watch at the plate and especially in the field. But you can't fault the big lug for lack of effort or enthusiasm. He had some big hits for the Giants during their hot start and they ended up needing every bit of that cushion.

He'll be 33 by opening day and has never been able to stay healthy. I hope 1B will be easier on his body and he'll be able to mash for 500 PAs or so.

The mystery of the Giants' off-season continues.

its the same #### lineup they had last year
Prado is a lot better than Roberts at 2B. Didi hits like Jeter did last year (bad) but isn't a trainwreck on D. Headley is better than Yangervis at 3B. They are effectively swapping Ichiro in RF for Beltran's glove and A-Rod's bat. Not sure if that's a positive or not.

Definitely not a championship, but they did win 84 games last year and they seem a little better (Granted, it was with a Pythagorean record of 77 wins, so who knows?)

I saw just a glimpse of Buster Olney's projected Yankee lineup for this year, and it did not include A-Rod. He has to DH, right?

The lineup has some question marks with age and injury but that's kind of a Yankees tradition now. But they'll score runs on the days that everybody shows up.

The big problem is the rotation. CC, Tanaka, Pineda, Capuano and Phelps aren't going to get it done. I have to think they'll be in on either Scherzer or Shields.

Padres swimming in arms at this point. Ross, Cashner, Kennedy, Hahn, and Erlin is a darn good rotation. 6th arm is likely Odrisamer Despaigne, who had a 3.36 ERA in 16 starts last year. After that, some very interesting projects in Brandon Morrow, Casey Kelly, Corey Luebke, and Josh Johnson (likely to re-sign). That's 10 guys before we even get to top pitching prospect Matt Wisler, former prospect Birch Smith, or soon to be stud Joe Ross.

Starting to believe the Upton deal is actually a possibility. What an offseason if AJ can add both Kemp and Upton without touching his rotation or dealing any starting positional players.

WE'RE BACK BABY!!!!!!

Lead-pipe-lock of the 2015 season is the Padre over. Put a rack on it and thank me in early Sept when it cashes.

Isn't a trainwreck? That is all you can muster up for an Excellent fielder at shortstop?

Brendan Ryan is a better SS glove than Gregorius

Rays traded Matt Joyce and his perpetually mediocre and sucky play to the Angels. Jaspen or Jensen or some guy in return. #analysis
