*2014-15 Hot Stove Thread: The Padres won it I guess (1 Viewer)

Twins right-hander Tim Stauffer knows how it looks, that 15.00 earned-run average and that fastball sitting in the mid-80s.

Pitching for a new team for the first time after a dozen years in the San Diego Padres organization, Stauffer recognizes his new employer -- and especially the fan base -- want to see more, even at this early stage.

The good news is that Stauffer says he is completely healthy and that he has been through this before.

"I just feel a little sluggish out there," Stauffer said Tuesday. "Nothing hurts or anything. There's no pain. Just a little dead-arm funk right now."
Funky
I bought a new Twins hat today.

I thought you were a Cubs fan now

I am.

The daily pitcher to panic about is Mike Fiers. Misses his turn due to "shoulder weakness"
My dynasty pitching staff of Jose Fernandez, Alex Cobb, Fiers, Minor, and Smyly is looking strong right now. If anyone has Matt Shoemaker or Collin McHugh, trade them now.

...and in other Gobbler pitcher news

Phillies righthander Jerome Williams was scratched from Tuesday afternoon's start against the Tampa Bay Rays because he tweaked his right hamstring on Sunday.

Williams felt "a little grab" while running sprints. He was scratched as a precaution, he said. The team listed him as day to day. David Buchanan will start in Williams' place.

Add that to the Phillies' list of injuries, major and minor, to Phillies' starters this spring. Cliff Lee is on the 60-day disabled list with a tear in his elbow tendon. Aaron Harang has missed two of three scheduled starts because of back issues.
Chad Billingsley will make his first spring appearance this weekend.

Kershaw goes down hard after line drive by Parrino hits him in face.

Kershaw is up on his own. Being looked at. Looks to be ok.

And ... Kershaw just threw a warm-up pitch and will stay in game.

Whew.

Anyone buying into a big resurgence year from Pedro Alvarez? We all know his warts, but he should come at a significant discount after last years debacle and the HR/RBI potential is impossible to ignore in that lineup.

I'd project him somewhere between his 2013 & 2014 production. He's not playable against lefties and is hurt by defensive shifts. But HRs are HRs and he has as much power as anyone.

One thing going for Alvarez this year is the NL Central doesn't seem to have a lot of LHP starters.

Drafted him late as a bench bat. Gonna let him marinate on the pine. I think he's a really good flier if you got the bench space.

I am not necessarily buying, but if he falls far enough and I have a need, yes. I'm building in backup plans though. Not good ones since I'm picking them after he goes, but they will be there no matter how uninteresting and mediocre they are.

My long-time league was supposed to have its draft starting at 8:00 last night. Yahoo was having some issues (people could not get into draft room and commish could not pause draft). Eventually had to wait for first draft to automatically end, cancel it, and redo it. Commish set restart time for midnight (I'm one of two people who were drafting from the eastern time zone, everyone else is mountain or pacific, so a bit more tolerable for them).

As I thought the decision to draft at midnight was a giant f-you to easterners, I let Yahoo autodraft for me. Wake up this morning to see Yu and Stroman on my roster. :lmao: Need to figure out how to save this one.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Sorry, I wrote that one poorly. I wasn't trying to show them by auto-drafting; just picked sleep instead because I gave zero ****s about the league at that point.

I was just trying to vent about having an auction draft that typically takes over two hours changed at the last minute to a midnight start time, and amused at how terrible of a team Yahoo gave me.

tl;dr - Just a bad "cool story, bro".

Rumors of Trumbo getting dealt?
Stew insists otherwise.

Arizona is going to try to DH him and see if the umps notice.
Got him late in a draft for 1B but already thinking about moving on to another option. From your sarcastic comment I gather you're not a believer in him this year.
If he plays, he'll hit some HRs.

I don't know Hale is going to divvy up the PAs.
Stew signs Hale's checks. Stew is heavily invested in Tomas.

Not sure about the rest. You'd think D-Backs ownership is heavily invested in Trumbo and content to let Inciarte and Peralta rot. But if the other guys are better than Trumbo and they want to win....
