2014 Concerts Thread (1 Viewer)

My 15 year old daughter was so excited to see Pierce the Veil and Sleeping with Sirens coming in concert together. Tickets went on sale this morning and it is a 16+ only show. She is seriously bummed.
That's odd. Never heard of a show being 16+.
It even said that all attendees will be required to show photo ID to prove age if requested. I could see if this is a Las Vegas club or something, but this is the Boulder Concert Hall.

What a great concert at the Forum last night. First of all, what a venue. Not a bad seat in the house, nothing high up, great acoustics, and I'm still trying to figure out how a sold out show has no lines getting beer or in the men's room. Zero.

Cheap Trick opened up. First two songs were not great as the mix was off and Robin Zander's voice was muffled, but then they got it right. Rick Nielsen can still shred. Then Boston came on. This is a group that when their first album came out I was hooked for an entire summer. I've never seen them live. Tom Scholz is freaking unbelievable. Completely tore it up on guitar and keyboards. Tommy DeCarlo is not Brad Delp on vocals, but it still sounded like Boston. Excellent supporting cast. Played for 2 hours and the crowd was on fire. I'll see them every time they come back.

Well, we were just another band out of boston

On the road to try to make ends meet

Playin all the bars, sleepin in our cars

And we practiced right on out in the street

No, we didnt have much money

We barely made enough to survive

But when we got up on stage and got ready to play

People came alive.

Rock and roll band

Everybodys waitin

Gettin crazy

Anticipating love and music

Play, play, play, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Dancin in the streets of hyannis

We were getting pretty good at the game

People stood in line and didnt seem to mind

You know everybody knew our name

Livin on rock-n-roll music

Never worry bout the things we were missing

When we got up on the stage and got ready to play

Everybodyd listen.

Rock and roll band

Everybodys waitin

Gettin crazy

Anticipating love and music

Play, play, play, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Playin for a week in rhode island

A man came to the stage one night

He smoked a big cigar

Drove a cadillac car

And said, boys, I think this bands outta-sight

Sign a record company contract

You know Ive got great expectations

When I hear you on the car radio

Youre goin to be a sensation!

Rock and roll band

Everybodys waitin

Gettin crazy

Anticipating love and music

Play, play, play, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

August 15 Magic!
August 22 The Local Showcase-Silent Comedy, Transfer and Vokab Kompany

August 29 Steve Aoki

Anybody know anything about any of the above??? All I know is the one dude is a DJ. Yippee, the most overpaid job in America (for famous ones)!

Magic is Canadian pop-reggae, only even worse than that sounds, I'm sure you've heard their song Rude, which is somehow a massive hit ("Why you have to be so rude, I'm gonna marry her anyway")

Aoki was my son's favorite player until he got traded to the Royals.

I saw Dierks Bentley last week in Phoenix. Put on a great show. There were TONS of hot women there. This guy really pulls them in.

Jack White in Toronto last night. Holy crap!

It was 1000x better then I expected, and I am a huge fan. He ripped that place up. No Dead Weather, but played most of the WS songs I wanted to hear!
I'm late getting on board the Jack White bus. The song "Lazaretto" drew me in  I have some Raconteurs playing this afternoon. Will definitely be putting him on my concert watch list.

Going to Katie Perry Monday night. Well more accurately I'm dropping off my wife and daughter while I hang out at Xfinity Live (Philly) and :banned:

Awesome!

I think the highlight song for me last night was "Steady as She Goes" by Raconteurs

Attended:

Har Mar Superstar - fantastic to finally see him. Will never miss a show again.

Caroline Smith - I like her newest album. I need some music to share with my spouse.

Arctic Monkeys - Lots of swagger. I would have liked a little more intensity.

Queens of the Stone Age - killer show. Hot and sweaty rock and roll.

Rodriguez - fun to see him give life to the music from the documentary.

HAIM - rocked a lot more guitar than I expected. Irresistible chemistry.

Blood Red Shoes - I really dig this pair a lot. UK duo on a club tour - highly recommend them if they are coming through your town.

Band of Skulls - very tight group and the most beautiful gear I've seen all year.

Jack White - these shows are frenetic and intense. I thought there was too much sound though - the extra instruments took away from the White Stripes' material instead of adding to them.

Paul McCartney - I had huge expectations, and they were surpassed. Worth every dollar to see Sir Paul for 39 monstrous songs. Best thing I've done all year.

Tickets acquired:

Glen Hansard (Tuesday night)

Har Mar Superstar/Doomtree/Bob Mould/Cloud Cult

Clutch

Brian Setzer Orchestra (holiday special)

Saw a good show this past weekend. Two of these three are older than dirt me.

The video was live streamed, and they put the video up on YouTube this morning.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ldv1X82sQM

Streamed live on Aug 9, 2014

The legendary Cash closes a bill with the anthemic The Lone Bellow and Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale's mix of roots and rock.
I was there solely to see The Lone Bellow (middle act); they killed it in an hour long set.

Apparently Buddy & Jim have a popular radio show on Sirius. I probably won't rush out to buy their music but it was pretty good.

I have to confess I knew nothing about Rosanne Cash except she is Johnny's daughter. Damn good show. In something I've only seen one other time (Lou Reed 20+ years ago), she played the 14 songs from her new album in sequence.

Her latest album is fantastic - would have loved to have been at this show - and I am older than some dirt

Ironically, a couple nights before her EmmyLou Harris played at the same outdoor venue with Rodney Crowell (Rosanne's -ex).

It was a terrific set, and I really enjoyed her presence on the stage. She is very thoughtful, articulate and pretty damn hot for someone who will be 60 in a few months. Keep in mind anyone petite is 8-10 on the BL scale.

Arcade Fire next Tuesday. First time seeing them in person. :excited:

Not sure what to wear, though.

I saw the Dirty Heads and Pepper at Red Rocks on Wednesday. The Dirty Heads put on an awesome show. They announced at the show that they were filming their first live DVD since it was their first time headlining at Red Rocks. Tech N9ne and Rome both made surprise guest appearances. One of the best thing about seeing shows at Red Rocks is that the artists get just as excited about playing at Red Rocks as the audience does about seeing the show at Red Rocks.

DMB at the Greek (Berkeley), not this Sunday, but next. Apparently, one set is electric, while the second is acoustic. Looking forward to it.

Saw Head of the Heard in a club with 50 other people. They were awesome!

Caught the subdudes last night - just one week after their bass player Johnny Ray Allen passed away. Kinda of a solemn first set - picked it up in second - the band was a bit out of sorts as Tim Cook(who had replaced Johnny Ray when he left band before) stepped in. Still always a Colorado favorite - with great great songs that Johnny had a big hand in. So RIP Johnny Ray Allen.

Caught Keith Urban in Holmdel, NJ on Friday night - excellent show. Had caught one last September in Camden, NJ at the start of this tour, but the time on tour in the past year has really been good to the band for playing the new material. Sounds great now (not that the show last Sept was bad in any way) and if you like the genre, I highly recommend this show.

I'm looking forward to going to Farm Aid in September. I just hope it isn't a really hot day. The headliners for Farm Aid are Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp, DMB, and Jack White. I'm also looking forward to seeing the Preservation Hall Jazz Band at the show. Later in September I may see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and I'm definitely seeing Chatham County Line and Head and the Heart. I had a really good time seeing Hayes Carll back in July.

I went to Farm Aid in 2012 in Hershey PA with a similar lineup plus Kenny Chesney. It was my excuse to go see Neil Young. It may be the last time I see him, you never know when people will croak.

Mellencamp and band put on a pretty good show but he cannot sing worth #### any more. His voice is just shot. Not a bad performance though. Dave Matthews --- I guess he played and sang well and the crowd loved him, I just cannot stand his music. Didn't think much of Chesney though his band was really tight, first time I'd really listened to him. But my wife loves him so there's that. Neil Young and Crazy Horse were ragged, but even when they're ragged they're awesome; best garage band alive. "Ramada Inn" and "Like a Hurricane" were the highlights. Definitely worth going.

Saw Chris Smither last night in a small pavilion atop a hill somewhere near Glen Rock PA. Great setting, sun going down and sky changing colors as the show went on, really relaxed music from someone I'd never listened to before. Worth seeing.

I'm seeing Outkast this Friday. Then, I'm seeing Offspring, Bad Religion, and Pennywise on Sunday. I've got pit tickets for both concerts. It should be a wild throwback to the 90's. Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik and Smash were two of the first albums that I ever bought. I'm psyched.

Bob Weir canceling RatDog tour dates through early 2015

NEW YORK (AP) — Guitarist Bob Weir is canceling all of the tour dates he had planned through January, including at Sept. 10 date at Jacob's Pavilion at Nautica.

The Grateful Dead founder says his tour with his other band, RatDog, won't kick off this week as planned. He posted a message Sunday on RatDog's website saying "circumstances have necessitated that all scheduled tour dates for Bob Weir & RatDog are being cancelled."

The 66-year-old didn't offer more details. An agent for Weir didn't respond to an email seeking comment.

Refunds can be claimed where tickets were purchased.

Weir also is canceling a September performance at the Lockn' Festival with Furthur, the band he formed with fellow Grateful Dead member Phil Lesh.

Weir fell onstage at a concert last year. Lesh told the crowd that Weir had been suffering from a strained shoulder.

Refunds for the Jacob's Pavilion show are available at point of purchase.

Really sad that Johnny passed. Great band.

Seen Pennywise and Bad Religion in concert a few times. Awesome shows

Farm Aid was fun. All of the acts were good. Here is a bit about some of the ones I saw:

Raelyn Nelson Band - Willie's granddaughter. This is a female led country rock band. They had a lot of good toe tapping songs.

Insects vs Robots - Willie's son. They are kinda like a psychedelic folk rock band. Whatever they are I liked them.

Todd Snider - He has a great sense of humor. I enjoyed his banter throughout his set. He is alternative country.

Carlene Carter - June Carter's daughter. She performed with just her guitar, and her singing was great.

Jamey Johnson - He would fit right in with the outlaw country Highway Men.

Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real - Willie's son. He's good. His music has a lot of rock in it, and he played a great solo on his guitar with his teeth.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band - Lots of fun. This band knows how to swing.

Gary Clark, Jr. - One of the highlights of the day for me. I loved his set of the blues.

Jack White - He rocked.

Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds - They did a mellow acoustic set.

John Mellencamp - His voice started out rough, but it smoothed out within the second song. He had fun with the audience, and put on a good show.

Neil Young - Neil was good, and was the most political of anyone at the show. He went on some rants, and he got some boos when he started going on about corporate evil, and NC Senator Burr. He told the booers that they can take their booing to the voting booth next time they go.

Willie Nelson & Family - I was surprised that Willie sang as much as he did. His voice started out a bit shaky at first (he is in his 80s), but it got better the more he sang, and he was in full Willie form while singing "Roll Me Up and Smoke Me Til I Die." He had a lot of people on stage with him, and it was fun.
