I am not sure the Raiders made the right move. Then again I don't think it is a coincidence that Sanchez was released shortly after the Raiders made the move for Schaub

My guess is schaub trade took away Vick's only better possible option. Once Vick signed, Jets cut Sanchez which they were going to do at some point anyway.

I don't think Vick was ever on Oakland's radar.

The Philadelphia Eagles will part ways with Michael Vick after deciding to go in another direction with the backup quarterback position, reports CBSSports.com’s Jason La Canfora.

In January, Vick said he expected to be starting at quarterback somewhere in the NFL in 2014 and was willing to return to the team.

Vick, 33, spent the last five seasons in Philadelphia and was the starter until being replaced by Nick Foles this season.

Vick never played a full 16-game regular season with the Eagles and passed for 1,215 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions in seven games last season.

According to the report, the New York Jets and Oakland Raiders are among the teams possibly interesting in Vick.

However, Cleveland's sudden interest in Schaub made Houston try and get more than a 6th out of Oakland. Oakland stood fast and got what they wanted, albeit, a little after when my little birdie said it would happen. In the future, you may want to curtail your sarcastic commentary on people's dissemination of inside information or the chirping of the world's little birdies may never hit boards such as these. Know what I'm saying?

However, if the opportunity presents itself, Oakland is willing to trade down to take Carr, who they are REALLY high on in order to grab a few more picks. It might be the deal got delayed because of the Browns interest, or more likely because Sanchez was going to be released. We will never know for sure. I'm not claiming to be a Raider executive or anything. I just happen to have a very close friend within the organization who from time to time passes along information he obtains. I can't say too much, but I will say that I never ask him for info. Rather, he contacts me about things he has first hand knowledge of and the info he usually passes along is stuff he has first hand, as opposed to hearing it from someone else etc. You can take the tidbits I pass along however you wish, but the info I pass along is based on first hand knowledge from someone without an agenda or ulterior motive.

As for your comment about Watkins and Florio, dude, whatever. Again, all I can tell you is that from what my pal tells me, a very large percentage of what gets leaked or released to the media or general public is false, disinformation or more commonly, a combination of the two with a sprinkle of truth. There is a ton of speculation floating around the media and fans as to what Oakland will do with the 5 pick. One of those options is what I say about Watkins and possibly trading down. I get it and aren't claiming to be breaking any Earth shattering news. What I AM saying is that, at this point in time, Watkins is Oakland's guy at #5. They really love him and want to win now. My prior comments about Petigrew fit this scenario insofar as they were hoping to have a veteran security blanket for Schaub to go along with Watkins as they focused their free agent attention on defense and the O-Line. Anyway, with all the speculation about what the Raiders will do, I am saying that my infamous little birdie is saying its Watkins. That selfsame birdie is also telling me that Oakland really, really likes Carr as well. But if the draft were today and they don't move out of the 5 slot, it's Watkins all the way. I also am advised that Oakland is not actively looking to trade down out of the 5 slot. However, if the opportunity presents itself and the right deal comes along to obtain more picks etc., they would very strongly consider trading down to get Carr depending on the deal. Hey man, it's cool, just busting your balls a little. What would be interesting to know is what does the Raiders board look like now. What if Watkins goes before their pick and they can't trade down? Based on the bird man's intell sounds like Moore is going to be traded at some point. Hopefully we get something better than a late round pick for him.

Rotoworld hates Schaub. I love how they say he isnt even a short term answer when is a much better quality starter than anything they have had in years. Schaub may have had a bad season last year, but even his bad seasons are better than what they have had. The rhetoric and hyperbole that Rotoworld provides is funny sometimes. He already is getting more support in Oakland than he has had the past few years in Houston, that goes a long way for a persons confidence. I am not a fan of Schaub but I would never say he is not helpful for the Raiders.

Raiders coach Dennis Allen expressed confidence new QB Matt Schaub would be Oakland's starting quarterback for several seasons.
Allen also said the Schaub signing means the Raiders do not have to get a quarterback in the draft. Oakland is putting a lot of faith into a player benched in favor of Case Keenum last season. Hopefully someone in the organization realizes Schaub is not the long or even short-term answer at quarterback before it is too late.

It's a passing league and they are in need of a legitimate #1 WR as much as a QB at this point.

I think Watkins is as much of a swing for the fences as any of the top QBs. And if they can grab Watkins and work their way back up to grab Carr or wait on Fales or even a guy like Garoppolo then I think it would be a success on paper.

I don't think anyone else is either. Its such a crapshoot anyore. If there are no sure-fire prospects like an Andrew Luck, for example, do they swing for the fences with QBs with lots of question marks like Minnesota, Jacksville and Buffalo did? Or wait and draft a QB later they like just as much as the highly touted guys. Seemed to work out pretty well for the 9ers and Seahawks. I guess it all comes down to scouting and talent evaluation. Which has me worried when it comes down to Reggie and QBs he likes. ie Matt Flynn.....

I agree. By staying away from the younger free agents like Sanchez and Freeman and going with an older vet like Schaub, it makes me think they will draft a QB this year. Whether its Teddy/Manziel/Bortles at 5 or Carr/Fales or someone else later. They do need a young QB not named Pryor or McGloin.

Frankly if they had an opportunity to get Bortles the future would look a little brighter. If they stayed at 5 I would be much more comfortable if they took Watkins, Mack or a tackle, in that order. If they did trade down I would rather they snag one of the DTs in the first.

Then later in the draft pick a QB. If McCarron in the second, or Murry, Mettenberger or Fales later. Where? I don't know. That is their job.

As was said before by others, whoever they swing for I am hoping for a homer. This losing crap is way past old.

If a QB doesn't go #1, it's a bad sign for the 2nd QB taken. Not a great track record on QB's taken 2nd regardless if there was a QB at #1 either, but this is worse. Might as well wait until the 2nd round with a hit ratio like this:

I think you should actually be happy about this.

There is SO much connecting us to Carr, you have to think it's not real.

I think it is at least possible that the Raiders are trying to drum up business for the pick, or trying to throw people off the scent of the QB they DO want.

Depending on how far they move down getting a second isn't so bad, is it?

If there is no consensus on the top QBs and there doesn't seem to be one (and no one is talking about them like Luck v RGIII either) then it makes sense to drop down and take the one that falls.

"He can recognize and communicate a lot of different styles of offense. It is very impressive," Gruden said. The former NFL coach added that Bridgewater ran a complex running game at the line of scrimmage and has an understanding of all the concepts and all the terminology of the west coast offense. NFL Films' Greg Cosell previously pointed out that Bridgewater was asked to make calls at the line of scrimmage, something that is tough to find with recent prospects at the position. Does Carr have B/C brains tho, or is it just not what he's known for? Just wondering.

Any rumors about the Raiders interest in Carr isn't the Ted Thompson school either. Thompson is as tight lipped as they come pre-draft. I wouldn't believe anything about any player said before the draft.

There are leaks in Oakland. Whispers about the Hayden surprise were out a few weeks prior to last year's draft and the week of, it became fairly common knowledge around most of the media who the Raiders wanted. It's one of the reasons why all we could muster was a lowly 2nd rounder for dropping from #3 to #12 IMO.

Gimme the QB with the A+ brain and B physical measurables all day over the guys with the B/C brains and A physicals.

Fair enough and clearly you are locked in on Bridgewater (or maybe it's just locked out on Carr) but maybe you should wait for Carr's episode.

I don't think there are any franchise pedigree signal callers in this draft, but Teddy would be the closest thing in my book. Not completely sold on him, but I do think he has the highest floor (and a reasonably high ceiling).

Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie insists Matt Schaub isn't a stop-gap option at quarterback.

Astonishingly, McKenzie also claimed he didn't see anything alarming when studying Schaub's 2013 film. "You just look at the tape and you see the talent," McKenzie said. "He had some good plays last year. Take away some of the bad throws, and he looked alright." We'd counter that any quarterback will look "alright" if you ignore their bad throws. Schaub is the Raiders' plan, and they're sticking to it.

You Raiders fans deserve better than this.

I am ok with Schaub for this season. He is not the long-term answer but at least he could be solid. The Raiders will draft a QB to groom for 2015. We do not need another year like last year. What chance did the Raiders have with Flynn, Pryor and McGloin circus?

Really gets into Manziel and Bridgewater. Long and the short of it: He prefers Bortles and Manziel to Teddy, thinks they can be homeruns, Teddy is a double. Brought up some interesting stats. Teddy has a higher completion percentage than JFF when blitzed. One of the reasons that he did was Zierlein's main problem with Teddy: Thinks he'll become Alex Smith-type Checkdown Charlie.
