2014 Oakland Raiders Regular Season Thread (3 Viewers)

Shanahan. Al Davis is dead. If the franchise apologized to Shanahan for ripping him off of a quarter of a million, and for lacking patience with him, he might return, but they would probably have to tolerate him pissing on Davis' grave each day.

This works because Shanahan is a genius, and because nobody will employ him and nobody will agree to coach that mess. They need each other.
Never happen. Raider Nation would collectively puke in its mouth. Then a contract hit would be ordered. Don't underestimate the nation.

Agreed. I do not know of one Raider fan that wants Shanahan back. I have not even heard this as a consideration until now.

I like the idea of a guy like Reich, particularly with the success McCoy and SD seems to be enjoying.

Bottom line is the Raiders picked the wrong Denver coordinator.

more #### ### hell in our future. there is no way in hell gruden(i'm not too high on him anyway) or any other big name is going to come to this ####hole. man, it sucks being a raider fan!

Does that mean that DA wasn't a straight shooter?

As was mentioned previously, the positive to Sparano is his passion, which is definitely missing from this team.

Yes, that's exactly what it means. He kept quiet that Hayden had surgery for a month till training camp all the while letting the beat writers think he was going to be ready soon. He was a company man who kept trade secrets and did as he was told. A straight shooter tells it like it is and doesn't worry about running it by COC for sayso.

So what's the expectation of Sparano guys? How does he redeem himself? 12 games left in the season. Is 6 wins a miracle? Probably.... 4 wins asking too much? What would make you reasonably happy?

the raiders have 2 chances at victories left this year. rams and bills. and maybe just maybe a division win, just based on statistics.

3 wins will be the ceiling imho

Meh, that is common practice throughout the league. Didn't the Chiefs say Charles had a high ankle sprain? Clearly that was n't the case.

Like I said earlier, no way Gruden coachs again. Let it go. They need to hire a young coach versed in the spread offense which suits Carr's skill set.
We heard you the first 17 times. You also said Saunders would get the interim gig.
What I said was in response to a previous post that stated Sparano would not be named HC. I then posted "My guess..." Not categorically stating Saunders would be named HC. Reread it.

Regardless, it seems like you're actually taking pleasure in squashing our dreams. Have a heart, man!

No, I am not taking pleasure in squashing your dreams, I am just frustrated. Chasing a fantasy isn't going to help the situation. Davis has to get his head outta his ### and start pursuing realistic candidates. I can see this idiot holding out hope for Gruden to change his mind long after all the qualified candidates have taken other jobs.

I'll be so happy when it's not like a cancer ward in here all the time. Gannon was right. Coaches in and out the door. Veterans in and out the door. The cycle never ends and it truly looks hopeless. There's got to be some Saint of a young coach out there who can get this team out of the doldrums.

I'm DONE with Reggie, too. His ass can follow Allen right out the door. It's a joke that he gets a pass with the garbage he provided the coach with.

It's a shame Ron Wolf isn't about ten years younger. He's a good man who can evaluate talent in his sleep, and he made his bones in the Raiders organization.

While I agree with everything Gannon said in that clip, the funny thing is that Reggie DID bring in veteran guys who have won it all and have been there before. Guys with rings who were supposed to come in and set an example for the other guys for what it means to work hard and win. Either they didn't live up to their end of the bargain, or they were infested with The Suck that has been this franchises trademark for the better part of 3 decades.

When the Raiders brought in Allen I thought it was a bold and exciting move akin to when they brought in Gruden, many will deny it now but I know they agreed with me at the time. But that honeymoon ended when he settled on Knapp as his OC, a move that showed a lack of creativity or even a lack of will. When Knapp was #### canned the hope was rekindled for all of a cup of coffee before Olsen was brought in. Just terrible moves and clear indicators that the hope for success was over.

IMO the Raiders need to shoot for another Gruden, not the husk of the coach that Gruden was 12 years ago, and hasn't been since. Today's Gruden has grown soft on the fat of the booth and the mail-it-in three day work week and six month offseason. They need to go get a Chip Kelly or Mike McCoy type who can bring some energy and creativity to the team and not saddle the team with coordinators with outdated schemes and messages.

Would bringing in a new owner create new problems. Atleast with Mark Davis he has the family history. Dunno if i could follow a team owned by a Donald Trump/Bon Jovi type. Although i would chuck in some coin if it was made available for a consortium of fans to purchase the team

The owner is the smallest problem. All he must do is make two smart hires at GM and HC and then step away.

Of course it is not easy for any owner to make the smart hires or step away.

With that kind of passion they should hire Gannon as GM. It also reaffirms my belief that this isn't getting any better as long as Tommy boy owns the team. He should have been angry at the news conference, instead he came across as detached. He is part of the problem, not part of the solution.
Passion doesn't make a good GM. Hire another novice who is in over his head? nuh uh. no way, count me out. For all of Gannon's bluster (and I agree with his rant as a fan), he's the same guy that faceplanted in the Super Bowl tossing up 5 picks. Never forget.

Only reason Reggie is around is because of the logistics of managing an organization and the perception Mark wants to make it appear that it's not dysfunctional. He'll be gone at the end of the season. Mark is going get his boy. Don't lose faith.

Hate to break it to you, but up and coming college coaches are not interested in the Raider job. David Shaw of Stanford already let it be known he's not interested. Others will follow suit. Mark doesn't want coaches that don't want to be here anyway. He wants to get back to Raider football and Raider ties. He's tired of young no-name inexperienced experiments. The time is ripe for a coach like Gruden. I'm not anywhere in this thread predicting it will happen. Just hoping.

Didn`t Reggie learn from Wolf?
I don't trust Ron Wolf. He was the guy along with Madden that recommended Reggie. Wolf's son ended up backfilling Reggie's job in Green Bay. Nepotism? Conflict of interest? Certainly not in the best of interest of Mark Davis, that's certain.

Hey, how do you feel about the offensive coordinators we've had here?

Hey, Gannon is right. But really, everyone knew that already. What's he saying we haven't heard before.

It's great that we are doing exactly what he said we shouldn't do, and everyone is applauding the moves.

Frank Reich >>>> Jon Gruden/Mike Holmgren

I could draw up better plays with my ####.
