Just grabbed my tickets for Charlotte...never been to 1st & 2nd round of March Madness (I don't yet acknowledge the playin games as the first round and Pluto is still a planet, GET OFF MY LAWN!).

Lombardi and I usually only go to Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight games...but he now lives in Hendersonville, so Charlotte works best this year. Should be fun to see 6 games, instead of 3 (Especially if Duke is in that bracket).

I've got 80K miles and $1100 in airline vouchers burning a hole in my pocket...so my son and I will fly out and soak up the Madness!
You're going to love it. The extra games are nice. The fans who show up for the weaker seeds are diehards and will scream their heads off. The energy in the building is amazing if 14-16 seed takes the lead in the second half. And if you're there for one of the top seeds (can't imagine a scenario where Duke isn't in Charlotte come March) you get to see them play twice.
I enjoy the diehards. The energy is awesome.

We bought a couple extra tickets to sell in March. Have another friend from this board (rajincajun) who was able to grab a seat with us as well.

Can't wait.

WOOHOOO!!! I don't think I'm going to make it three months, so stoked right now.

Unless Duke craps the bed they're the 1 in Charlotte. If we end up with UVA and NC State? That would be epic. They'll probably ship one of them out though, but who knows.

Good news- the NCAA agrees with you and they're going back to the old teminology next year. link

Also, that's awesome. I'm pretty comfortable predicting that you'll be watching Duke. Enjoy it.
It's about time, I HATE having to clarify every single time I say first round.

I love going to that opening weekend especially if it's a Friday/Sunday group. I'm guessing you'll get Duke and Virginia if things hold up.

Stupid question since this was my first time looking at the brackets, but can Louisville play in Louisville. I'm guessing no, so Lunardi shipped them somewhere else as a 3 seed and had a 4 seed in their place.

EDIT: and BTW as a college B-ball fan I like caring what L-ville and 'Cuse are doing these days. The expansion messed up a whole bunch of things, but as an older college basketball fan growing up with these teams in the 80's and 90's, its kinda cool to have more of a reason to follow them now.
Really unlikey L'ville is in L'ville because Kentucky is going to be #1 seed and they're most likely going to be there. They usually try to protect the #1 in that first round and not stick a really close rival in there the first weekend, unless L'ville completely falls apart (unlikely) they're most likely going to get shipped.

I'm still completely out of wack as a life long Big East fan. Every time I see PItt vs Syracuse play now I shed a little tear (on the inside, I did say the Big East after all).

At least Nova is killing it this year. Go Wildcats. If they end up in Charlotte tdoss and I may need to split our tickets when they face off.

FSU's Aaron Thomas ruled ineligible for the rest of the year. They probably weren't going anywhere anyway, but they should be fairly awful the rest of the way (Sorry Cappy)

Gonna have to swallow hard and root for UNC today against UK. I don't think they have a prayer (even with Poythress out) but what the hell.

Roy really knows how to coach up his team. Another top 5 preseason ranking to out of the top 25 for the Cheats within a month. Impressive!!!

Maybe we can have a quick cornhole between games for a beer with all the FBGs going.

Sweet baby Jesus how does NCSU lose to a team name Wofford?

any homers that watch the game want to give me the 411?
Didn't watch the game, but Wofford is #74 in KenPom and played in the NCAA Tournament last year. Come seeding time, it will not be considered a bad loss.
I didn't realize they were on TV until the last 2 possessions

I can tell you that Wofford ran a nice inbounds play to take the lead I believe there was 6 seconds on the clock when the play started they got a contested layup with 1.9 seconds left

State took a time out threw a mid court pass to Lacy who took two or three dribbles and let the runner go just past mid court and it went in. But on replay the shot was negated because it was on his finger tips as time expired

Really close call

Dominant win by the Cuse against LA Tech.
Ha....right...

I've found it difficult for this team to keep my attention; esp with NFL games going on at the same time. Unfortunate start-times like yesterday make me thankful that I have all those TVs in one room.

In any event...at least it was a somewhat exciting ending yesterday.

Yea gonna be a tough year. Just enjoy the football ride because hoops is gonna be tough.

I want to punch Karl Hess in the throat.

3 years ago he inexplicably throws two State basketball legends from the stands out of the arena. Then there is Hess-gate with the other referees. State requests the ACC that Hess does not get assigned to State games in Raleigh.

3 years later, somehow the ACC decides that it's cool, Hess is going back to Raleigh. FOUR MINUTES INTO THE GAME, for no apparent reason other than normal questioning of a call by a coach, Hess T's up Coach Gottfried. There was no cussing, there was no demonstrative "showing up" of an official, nothing. Just Hess asserting his authority.

Hess is an embarrassment to the league.

Oh, yeah, and State managed to lose by a point.

The ACC had flirted with the top spot of the RPIs for much of the early season.

But now, with most of the competitive non-conference schedule behind us...here's where it stands:

1. Big 12

2. Big East

3. Big Ten

4. SEC (.5764)

5. ACC (.5690)

6. Pac 12 (.5576)

seriously? are you going to quote RPI every year in December? it's barely worth looking at in March.

RPI

8. Virginia Commonwealth

9. Green Bay

18. Harvard

I cant blame ACC fans for not looking at it in December, January, February or March. November is usually ok, lol. KenPom tends to overrate the conference. RPI had right last year as the ACC got wiped out of the tourney with 0 teams in the Elite 8.

But seriously now, what is the problem in having a discussion about conference rankings after most of the November/December games are through? December 15 is a perfectly good vantage point to look at the rankings.

Notable chances this week to improve:

Tennessee at NC State

Uconn vs Duke

Clemson at South Carolina

UNC vs Ohio St

Syracuse at Villanova

FSU vs USF

Vanderbilt at Georgia Tech

Wake Forest vs Florida

Notre Dame vs Purdue

West Virginia vs NC State

-4 games head to head with the SEC-

That game was about what I expected. UNC has the talent to play with many teams, but UK is not one of them.

The frustrating part is that they need to bring that effort against everyone, not just the "big" games. If that UNC team has shown up for every game, then it's 7-2 and right where they are supposed to be at this point in the season. Now they still need to steal one later.

If he could find a way to throw everyone on both teams out of the game so the fans could focus on enjoying him as the star he's sure he deserves to be, he'd do it.

Hate seeing Semi leave. It'll be a big hole next year.
Meh. He's a gifted athlete (in the sense that he's built like a linebacker and can jump out of the gym) but he has no idea how to use it. Whenever he got a chance in games, he's just floated on the perimeter.

Jefferson will be back to start at the 4 next year and Chase Jeter should be able to back him up. They're also still in the mix for Brandon Ingram, who should be able to play a few minutes a game at both forward spots (even thought he's rail thin at this point) if he chooses Duke

David Robinson's son is also going to be a preferred walk on next year. He's only 6'6 and not a high major player at this point, but its still pretty cool. Maybe he'll hit a late growth spurt like his dad....

You're right...I'm just a bird in hand kinda guy. He was going to be a solid piece next year...now we gotta fill that gap and have great options for that fill...but it's still up in the air a bit.

Semi was never going to play much at Duke. Great kid and I hope he finds success elsewhere. Looking forward to beating UCONN tonight!

I don't watch SportsCenter much, but surprised Ralston Turner got no love on the Top 10 this morning. They showed a pair of dunk follow-slams but couldn't find a slot for a 8 3-pointers.

Nice to have some down time this week and see UNC Tuesday and NC State last night. Anyone know when Duke is playing again? Didn't see much about them while watching the other games.

So now we know the celebrity parent that will be shown at all the Duke games for the next four years. Not exactly Sonya Curry-level, but still cool. And Robinson now has kids on ND football and Duke basketball. What else does he need to complete the set - Yankees? ManU?

I went to Yale for undergrad, we beat UConn in Storrs a couple weeks ago. If Duke loses tonight you all might have to put me on ignore for the rest of the season.

TF, what?! So you are UNC grad school? (may have known this in the past)
Yeah, law school. Plus there's several other UNC alums in my family, undergrad and grad. We were raised as UNC fans; I almost went there undergrad too, was my second choice. Also my undergrad school didn't really have sports teams to cheer for ... at least not until recently.

Love that if Duke continues to win K's first chance to get 1000 wins will be at Louisville.

And Winslow's block last night pinning the ball against the backboard

I  Okafor. Just a treat to watch him.

Nice to see Duke just physically manhandle a smaller, quicker team. That hasn't happened in a while

Gone are the days when this team got out rebounded every game. And Amile Jefferson is turning into a Chris Carawell/Nolan Smith type player for Duke. Both those players weren't expected to be great when they got on campus, but each year just kept getting better and better. I think he'll be 1st or 2nd team all conference player next year. Great team guy, incredibly efficient, and just sneaky good.

A lot of abnormalities for this Duke team. When was the last time a Duke team had a legitimate post presence or multiple guys that could take the ball all the way to the rim or had 5 starters that were all scoring threats or didn't live and die by the 3. I really like this team.
