**2015 MLB Season Thread: This is how the chapter ends (1 Viewer)

There's a "preventing a sneak attack by the dirty japs" joke in there somewhere, but I can't find it.

It seems everyone who has ever watched a baseball game knows how to get Jorge Soler out. Except for Jorge Soler.

Hint for Jorge: You don't have to swing at everything.

Soler, Baez, Alcantara... this seems to be a theme with Cubs prospects.
They are all 23 and under and all seem to have great expectations attached. Less than a year ago Baez was the next A-Rod and now he's some sort of bust that might not be a MLB regular. lol. These are all above average bats, Baez has a chance to be special and Soler looks like a a perennial all-star. They all just need more at bats, more seasoning, more time to come into their own IMO. Addison Russell who was in the A's organization hasn't fared a lot better with the Ks either.

Yup. Hell, Anthony Rizzo looked completely lost at times a couple seasons ago. Just takes some time to learn and adjust. Every once in a while, a guy comes along who hits right out of the gates, but that's rare.

Astros promote Lance McCullers. Imagine him and Correa being called up in June. These are two guys I don't expect to need much adjustment time. McCullers reminds me of Jose Fernandez. Astros will be legit.

Woah, yeah?

Just grabbed him dynasty based on this thought, i was looking for another pitcher anyway. Dropped Rafael Betancourt, no pressure.

Might be his overall build and delivery. I just looked it up and both guys are 6'2". McCullers is 205, Fernandez is 215. McCullers delivery also looks very similar—has that easy explosiveness to it. I haven't seen actual breakdown of where his pitches rate, but his AA numbers this season are pretty compelling.

From Fangraphs in February:

126. Lance McCullers, RHP, Houston Astros

More: Video & Full Report

Fastball: 60/65, Curveball: 55/65, Changeup: 40/50, Command: 35/45+, FV: 50

Scouting Report: McCullers’ father was a big leaguer and Lance Jr. hit 95 mph as a 15-year-old at Tampa area powerhouse Jesuit High School. He’s been a high-profile name for years and the Astros signed him to a $2.5 million bonus in 2012 with some of the savings from an under-slot deal with #1 overall pick SS Carlos Correa (#5 on this list). McCullers has a nasty fastball-curveball combo that’s plus-plus on the right day and would easily make him a closer if he can’t stick as a starter.

Potential 65 grades on fastball and curveball would usually lead to a much higher ranking than 126. His struggles in High-A last year probably held him back on that list but this year's numbers would suggest he's progressed a lot.

He's 77th at BA FWIW

Dynasty pitching prospects are like women. At first you fall in love with a gorgeous face or a 14 K/9 rate, but then you start to worry about what they'll look like a few years down the road. Then when they need you to support them through the tough times or Tommy John surgery, you realize you're not ready for that level of commitment and move on to a younger version.

Pantagrapher saying he looks like Jose Fernandez is good enough to make him the 37th guy on my roster. It's a build from scratch effort here guy.

I was referring more to my pickup of Alex Reyes. You probably did a little bit better snagging McCullers IMO.

Robert Stephenson and his 7 BB/9 rate in AA is on the block in Serious Biz. No reasonable offer refused.

Jay Bruce is obnoxious.

His entire career revolves around flying to the warning track with runners on and two outs. Awful.

Hmmm, McCullers is out there in my 12 team league where we keep 7 minors and roster 11 during the year. Have to cut Olson on the A's...maybe Tapia....probably Olson though.

Dee Gordon's 58 hits are the most through a team's first 35 games since Rod Carew had 59 hits in the first 35 games of the 1974 season.

Is Jimmy Paredes legit?
His stats would suggest not. Low walk rates and high K rates all throughout the minors, and currently sporting a .422 BABIP.

His hard contact rates have apparently been pretty good, though, if that means anything, though I'm not sure that anyone knows fully how to interpret them yet.

I guess if he is running and can keep his K rate where it is now, he could be mildly useful.

That's the same kind of trenchant analysis I used to pooh-pooh him a few weeks ago. I was wrong :bag:
