Scouting reports always said Cain had this in him, late breakout I guess (although his power has been fading). I'm sure I wasn't the only one that gave up on Hosmer a year too early, but given how his 2014 went it was unfair to write him off.
Morales though? He is experiencing spikes in swstrk, o-swing, and babip - one of those things is not like the others.
And Moustakas? I'm just gonna fully dig my heels in on him. #### that guy.
The Moose is loose! Batting .333 and looking great on defense.Missouri has a pair of pretty good baseball teams.
Moose fundamentally changed his hitting approach during the offseason. Instead of trying to jack fly balls into the shift every time, he's content with hitting singles to left where there aren't extra defenders. Not sure if the numbers support it, but he seems to be more patient at the plate, too. This is going to keep up until teams stop shifting on him.And like Nugget said, Moose's defense has come a long way. He made a great play to start an inning-ending double play, overshadowed by two highlight-reel plays form Escobar.
He has dropped his pull % from 50 to 35 and upped his opposite field % from 21 to 34 as you noted.
Looking at fangraphs, he is actually seeing fewer pitches per PA and he is swinging at pitches in and out of the zone at about the same rate, but he is making more contact.
Definitely interesting to see him be able to adjust like this and it will be great if other guys can do this to really see the strategy game between shifting and not shifting.
