2015 NBA Thread: I felt a great disturbance in the trolls, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. (2 Viewers)

Only two ways to go from here.

One, do something incredibly stupid like sign Howard to a long deal and then re-up Rose next summer.

Two, use this move to clear off two years of Lopez money and have a ton of money open for next summer when you let Rose walk.  Start the team over with Porzingis, 2017 high draft pick, hopefully some well used FA money.

Guess we'll know soon in free agency if they are going short term 'we have a chance to win mentality -  :wall: ' or we need to start over mentality.

Nevermind, it's the Knicks, they are going for the moronic way of going about things so Howard it is.   :toilet:

Knicks should trade Melo.

Abe, can you fire me up a couple trades from your new favorite team from the East.

Can only hope part of this plan is it goes so sideways Melo is begging to waive his no trade clause to ball with a pal and they get anything for him.  Clear cap space would be good enough though.

Ian Begley: The Knicks are looking to upgrade their backcourt this offseason. But if they have any interest in a center, one of the top bigs on the market would be open to signing with them. The Knicks are one of several teams Dwight Howard would consider in free agency, league sources say. Howard told friends earlier in the season that he was interested in playing for the Knicks; that interest remains as Howard approaches free agency, per league sources. It’s unclear, though, if Phil Jackson and the Knicks would have any interest in Howard. They signed Robin Lopez to a four-year contract last summer. Lopez was a bright spot for the club during last year’s 32-win campaign. The club is expected to have at least $30 million in cap space this summer.

This is what I don't get. If Curry wants to be considered one of the league's elite players, why does he get a pass for his performance in the finals? Everyone knows that guys like Peyton Manning get absolutely destroyed for not performing in Super Bowls like they do in the regular season. No one excuses it as 'variance'. He was labeled a choker his entire career. League MVP on the greatest regular season team in NBA history and we get a 6 for 19 in game seven. The definition of a choker is a player who doesn't rise to the occasion in big moments. I'd say 1 for 6 in the fourth quarter of a game seven qualifies.
Curry won a championship last year, his first time in the Finals.   So it will take more than 1 bad game for him to be saddled with the choker label.

IMO Durant seems to be the one getting the free pass.   Up 3-2 with a chance to close it out at home, he shoots 33% including 1/8 from 3.

And Curry underformed last year also. That's why he didn't win MVP. A team's 'best player' almost always wins the MVP if his team wins the Championship.

as a knick fan since the 70s Who watched some games last year, this is fine by me.  getting 1 year of an expiring rose And offloading calderon Who was an abysmal waste And Lopez, Who had at least 50 games of little to no impact is a win.  grant is no more than bench fodder.

In 1986 the 76ers had the #1 pick.  They had acquired it 7 years earlier from the Clippers.

They had just drafted Charles Barkley the year before. They were 54-28 with the 4th best record in the league.

The lock for the #1 was Brad Daugherty.

They proceeded to shit the bed and trade away the #1 (for Hinson) ... and also Moses Malone with two future 1st rounders (for Jeff Ruland and others).

I think Calderon is a good system guy, right?  Hoiberg should like that.  I assume his defense is bad though?

I'm glad the Bulls are moving on from Rose.  I'm pleased with the trade, overall.  They needed a center with Gasol and Noah likely gone.

Just looking at the list, my best guess for the stat is number of Asian ladies they've pointed to in the first few rows and got rejected.

Am I wrong?

Lopez is good. Especially for what he's getting paid. Phil can't wait 12 months to sign a shot Derrick Rose without giving up any players, I guess.

if Timmy retires then I might be interested in a Dwight addition. He would be a fun experiment for Pop.

Lopez is redundant to whatever they end up doing though since Porzingis will end up being a stretch 5.  This is really just trading for Rose's Bird Rights which in the grand scheme is fine especially since they really only were giving up Grant and Lopez (i.e. Parts)

It was pretty awesome being at a championship parade for the first time. They are saying 1.3 million people were down there today. Not too shabby. People have wanted this for a long time.

Now what if I told you Calderon and Rose were essentially equals last year :excited:
Not surprised. And I'd take Calderon as a backup over Rose who is a backup talent at this point that makes everyone around him worse. Bulls need a facilitator. Not a guy that pound the ball on the floor for 20 seconds that can't shoot or finish at the rim. Terrible at both ends. And zero ball movement anytime Rose was on the floor.

Bulls have more than enough offense with Butler, Mirotic, Portis and McDermott. I just now pray if they do take a PG at some point in the draft that it's not Wade Baldwin but Tyler Ulis. If Ulis's hip issue isn't severe or have long term impact, he will be one of the best players to come from this draft.

I've always been a big Calderon fan. Nothing flashy. Runs a great offence. Was incredibly efficient. Knows who to get the ball to at the right time. Very smart. Obviously his athleticism is subpar, to put it nicely. Knows what to do on D but his body can't keep up. Was an excellent bargain PG in his prime. 10-15 minutes isn't going to hurt you during the regular season and would be a great mentor.

Man, I...I don't know.

His VORP for the last three years total, after he missed an entire year with injury, is -0.6. He can't shoot. He doesn't get to the line. If he's not shot as a player, I would be very surprised.

If the Howard rumors are true, I feel like NYK is heading down the same path that PrimeZeke(tm) did -- paying big money for name players who are way past their expiration date.

Also disagree vehemently with your characterization of Lopez. If you're intent on getting rid of him and letting KP just play C all the time, get someone or something good for a cost-effective starter. Grant's a decent player who Chicago stole and NYK didn't have to give up.

I took it as him disagreeing with "that's why you drink" comment.

oh well he probably has a point there score one strykerperks well played my friend take that to the bank brochacho

Most people around here probably labeled him adequate and some probably above average pointing to steal stats or whatever.
I definitely was surprised how often the Cavs targeted him and how often he looked helpless in the finals. They definitely put a ton of pressure on himand wore him down. I'm also guessing this (and maybe injury, we may never know) factored into his offensive "struggles" much more than any magical playoff referee changes.

Seems like every year people would rather blame the refs, make excuses or say someone choked than give credit to the team that won for a good strategy and execution.

poor Rose.  one of the most disappointing NBA careers in a long time at least for me personally. he's a target for jokes because of injury. sucks.

that said, the next time an NBA trade happens and there's anything even remotely close to something that could be considered a consensus opinion, i will eat my own feces. it's not bad enough that there's no majority in favor/against the trade. but there are 93 different opinions on each player, who should have been included, who sucks, who belongs somewhere else, what teams are going to do going forward, etc. and EVERYBODY thinks everyone else with an opinion is an idiot

no sport has fans more divided, confused and scattered than the NBA does with its transactions

I don't agree with this.

Not surprisingly teams are lining up.

The Pistons and Bucks are reportedly interested in unrestricted free agent Matthew Dellavedova.
Brian Windhorst of ESPN is reporting that both the Pistons and Bucks sent scouts to the Cavs playoff games, and he believes that those scouts were analyzing Dellavedova's game. Both the Bucks and the Pistons could use a future 1st ballot HOF point guard, and Windhorst is reporting that they are prepared to offer Dellavedova something in the $500 million range as an unrestricted free agent. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. Delly will be a 1st round fantasy option on either club.

Really disappointed in the lack of Delly controversy in this years finals. At least we had JoeT.

No free pass for Durant. There was talk all season of the Choklahoma Blunder and their fourth quarter meltdowns. If anything, their last series only magnified it tenfold. I think Durant is definitely saddled with the Choker label until he does something to remove it.
