2016 Official Dallas Cowboys thread (1 Viewer)

Ya well Gregory just had 10 more added to his suspension.  Time to cut bait on several players. Go young and re build.
Huh? That's what we've been doing, rebuilding. Stop feeding into the media and the tired old rhetoric about the Cowboys enabling players. Every team has its issue, even the more perceived "conservative" organizations like the Steelers, Giants and Packers.

Here's a list of NFL player suspensions since 1/1/15

Its not like we didn't know this additional 10 games is something new, we knew this was coming months ago. The Cowboys have gone on from players like Hardy and McClain in part, to prevent them from having an impact on the younger guys like Gregory. I don't know if Gregory is an bad guy or a weed head, but at this point, if hes not a bad guy, it doesn't make sense to cut bait on him. Hes a second rounder with unique pass rush skill, something the Cowboys are desperate for.

On rebuilding, I think they've done a pretty good job of building this team in its current state, especially given the emergence of Prescott and highlighted by having one of the best and youngest offensive lines in football.

How would you rank them by position? I would rank them as follows:

QB: B+

RB A

WR B-

TE C+

OL A-

DL D+

LB C+

CB B

SS B

K A
They have invested draft picks and FA signing into the DL. We just haven't seen the results of the draft picks and our FA signings haven't panned out exactly has planned, however we can't be 100% sure until they're all on the field at the same time. Dlaw comes back next week. That will give them a half decent rotation with, Mayawa, Crawford and Irvin. DT, Mileke Collins played well last week and is improving.Tapper has a back issue so we don't know what hes made of yet.

This is a process. We MUST stay the course. This off season we need to again focus on the defensive side of the ball, targeting DL, safety and then WR. Its looking like its all too late for Romo, but we are in good shape for the future.

It all depends on Dak. And I think its obvious how I feel about the kid.

That thread was started January 4th. This thread was started this month. By Gary's math, they are averaging 1.37 pages/mo., we are averaging over 3 pages/mo.
First, 137 divided by 10 is 13.7 not 1.37.

Second, the Eagles Thread from September 3 to now has gone from pg 119 to pg138 - 19 pages. Cowboy thread - 3 pages.

Ive been listening to everybody tell me Leary is better then Collins and that they think Collins will be better at T. Lets keep Leary at G and let Collins backup or take over for Free.

Or the offseason one from Jan-Sept.  Cowboys one 18 pages.  Eagles... 118 pages.

Not boasting about it (not meaning to), but I don't think its an issue with the board.  Just maybe not as many boys fans on the site.

Hey, a rivalry is a rivalry.  Even on a message board.  Let the boasting continue!  :football:

My random thoughts on the team:

- As amazing as Dak is playing, I thought this was his weakest game-and that is saying something.  A few erratic throws and a duck that was almost picked off. He is still playing poised and very well.  No complaints here, No Dez and a shorthanded line make it an impressive win still.  Also coming back from 14 down.

-Zeke and our banged up O-line is actually carrying this team.  I personally think Zeke will continue to get better and he is already the leading rushing in the NFL.

-Gotta give our secondary credit.  Not sure if it's the new DB coach, but we actually turn our heads to look for the ball.  Imagine that!!!  Mo is playing well as is the rook Brown.

-I am excited to get Lawrence back, an increased pass rush can only help the back end.  Nice to see Crawford get a sack from the end position.

-As happy as I am about 3-1, I am quick to remember we have beaten, Wash, Chicage and SF.  We have a string of tough games coming up and I think you see us get exposed a little bit.

For today though, I will enjoy a good win. A win that you most definitely would NOT have seen under the same circumstances in the past couple years.

Don't want to talk too much pay site content but in Waldmen's Top ten article he mentioned Dak might be susceptible to double A-gap blitzes.  Niners had been throwing that at him when they were up 14-0.  Sometimes showing Double-A gap and only bringing one blitzer or using safeties for edge blitzes.  Dak had trouble with that look.  After a roughing the passer penalty (BS call I thought but I am a biased party) they went away from it and Zeke started getting hot.  It'll be interesting to see if Cincy will utilize the Double-A gap blitz.

My thoughts from yesterday.

1. We showed some back bone and composure... BUT it was the 49ers. W is a W but Gabbert was dicing us up. Flip side is the offense controled the ball after the initial 49ers barrage which is what this team is built on.

2. Belive wrote few weejs ago that by week 4-5 the real zeke would show. Again Teams we're beating on are weak but he's pushing forward with power and savy  squirming to get extra gains. He is also taking on defenders at POA and winning battles showing toughness.

3. Dak is doing well but its obvious he isnt a  threat to stretch the field with deep throws. Even the tougher windows over the top of defender "A" and in front of defender "b" are lacking touch/confidence.  (Terrence, Beasley on sidelines ) Obv tough throws but those are the ones he has to hit for defenses to respect and to move the chains.

4. Still not enough zeke in passing game but for that to happen dak is going to have to be able to go down field more than intermediate routes.

5. Defense did a much better job after the 1st quater.Throw on sean lee to celek was great coverage but pefect throw.

6. Butler made some plays along with Twill. Witten came up when we needed hom and actually BROKE A TACKLE ..

Lastly,  did it shock anyone else how loud the crowd was for Dallas??? That stadium had an overall buzz to the old cowboys 49ers rivalry or least seemed so to me.  Admit i was a new teen when we almost came back in 94 @ SF but the crowd was into it. Wish we BOTH could get good again...  I told my girl yestdrday we're about to get good again. I feel optomism in next few years with age and talent on offense. If D can get better we should be on the verge.

I do believe cincy is going to pull the dak "phenom" back to reality this week. Theyre not world beaters but i have feeling they will eek one out on us this week and force few sacks an INT with preasure.  I was cautious about the 9ers game too though.

I know I'm a fan and obviously biased, but I'm sick of everyone bagging on Dez, especially Schefter. He's been on a witch hunt ever since he lied about that Wal-Mart parking lot incident. What a tool. I know Dez is a prima Donna WR, but the league is full of them. I'll take Dez's tantrums over OBJ any day.

</rant>

Lol, you gotta stop watching that stuff. I strictly just listen to the local podcasts that focus on the team.

You and I know that while dez is a dope and acts and dresses like the sober version of a crazy homeless person, he's simply passionate. Annoying as hell but not even remotely a disruption.

He does need to start making some catches if he's going to be worth all the trouble.

Can't wait. We've had two division games already so All this talk about the being Dallas' first real test is a little overstated. I think this might be the best Dline we've played yet and Burfect(sp?) is a monster but it's still Cincy.  :P

Lookong forward to the game. I'll be watching Dlaw and the rest of the dline. Me must get pressure on the QB or we're just gonna get torched by any elite QB we face.

If we can't generate pressure in the next two games I think we need to trade for someone.

Jerry was seen making a new place for the Lombardi Trophy he plans on collecting this year.

He was in his element this morning welcoming Romo vs Prescott...it's like Christmas already. Not a knock on Dalls or the fans at all, this is a feel good story with the 2 rookies leading the way. Dallas will have 2 competent QBs as Dec rolls around, that's a great advantage over other teams and forces teams to scheme two ways. If Romo were to start slow they could switch to Dak to find a spark if need be. I think it's a terrific problem to have.

Anyone else sick of hearing about Dak vs. Romo?
It's the price the Cowboys pay as the team that is always in the spotlight.  No one is getting ratings by trying to drum up controversy in Jacksonville.

The lack of respect for Romo is the annoying part.

Very impressed by today's win... Go into Lambeau and put on a show.

Rodgers had all day to throw at times, yet the secondary held their own. Something we haven't been able to say last few years.

Looking forward to Philly in 2 weeks !

The route Beasley ran on the 2nd TD.  Thing of beauty.
Yes, moar of that. Much safer then those jump balls.

Beasley is having a year. We need another WR who can catch and another who doesn't commit 15 yard penalties on crucial downs in the 4th quarter every game.

At least Williams went out of bounds this time! (Even if he coulds squeezed out a few more yards out of it)

Cautiously optimistic.  Still think Romo is better than Dak and there are some cracks starting to show in Daks game as defenses get more film on him.  Those turnovers were sloppy today and could have easily cost the team a win had the defense not played so well or Rodgers so badly.

I don't think I've seen a worse CB (Gunther) in all my years of watching football.  I'll be shocked if he isn't cut soon.

I'd be interested in hearing what these cracks are. It seems to me the only time he's in real danger is on those bootlegs where defenses don't go for the fake hand off. We do so many that now defenders are taking calculated risks and going straight for Dak. Ive also noticed that he either isn't interested in taking the abuse or its by design, but he doesn't keep the ball very often on option plays unless hes inside the red zone. He tends to throw high sometimes.

All those things can be fixed and as long as Dak doesn't play careless and Eazy E keeps getting fed we should be good.

This team might actually be good!
C'mon Bankerguy, get excited. They are good. That running game makes all other parts of the offense better and helps out the defense. The coordinators are doing a great job. I have no problem saying at this point that the Cowboys should be the favorites to win the NFC this year. I think Minnesota's offense will get exposed at some point, and their defense, while very good, is not what I would consider dominating.

Those turnovers?? Plural?

he made ONE mistake yesterday. Romo has made 1 a quarter, at crucial times. That fumble was not on him, he had the ball slapped from behind as he was about to throw. That's on the guy who wasn't blocking good on that play.

Romo was pretty good, but every minute I feared a pic, a fumble, or a stretcher. Romo also has the the worst dance feet in the league when he feels pressure, and usually results in a throw off his back foot. No, I consider us lucky that Romo overachieved for us, now I'm ready for a guy with poise, and youth on his side.

Im definitely living in the moment and enjoying the games so far but just had a random thought earlier, considering how good Dak and Zeke look so far how much better it may look in some time if Jaylon gets healthy and is in top notch form. Could have come out of this draft with several cornerstones for years to come, not to mention how solid even Collins and Brown have been so far. Things are looking up.

C'mon now. I AM HAPPY. I love Zeke...got his jersey already. However, we've seen this movie before in 2014 with Murray (Zeke is better).

We will go as far as the defense will take us. This is the difference right now. Not Dak vs. Romo.

While I admit, the D is improved and someone finally taught our DBs to look back for the ball. However, I think the unit is over rated. Can it last?

I will say...Future is looking VERY bright though.

He is not that accurate he overthrows receivers and could easily have had 2-4 more ints at this point.  People have short term memory when it comes to the NFL.  Last time Romo had a good offensive line and run game he was an MVP candidate.  While Dak is exceeding even the most optimistic expectations he is not the dynamic playmaker like Romo is.  The offense with him is power run and short/intermediate routes.  With Romo it could expand to deep play action routes.  Just my opinion.

The Eagles had a bye week and came out flat against Detroit. Minnesota had a bye week and came out flat against the Eagles. I am hoping the third time is a charm and Dallas comes out flat against the Eagles. By the way, when the Eagles play the Giants, that will be the third straight week the Eagles will be playing a team coming off of a bye. THANKS OBAMA...I mean....GODELL!
