2017-18 NBA (Playoffs): A gasping, wheezing thread begs message board poster arguing how Jordan never lost a Finals to just let it die in peace (5 Viewers)

presumably pressure is highest in the last 2 minutes. generally mistakes happen under pressure. fans call it choking. players shrink under pressure.

that open 3 at the 4 minute mark of the 1st quarter sure does look a lot easier than the contested 3 with 35 seconds left in the game. refs are under the same pressure, maybe even moreso but less appreciated. "blowing" 2 calls in the final two minutes when there are hundreds of possible calls to be made and saying that means a ref "sucks" is extremely harsh.

the goal posts are moving a bit here from "the refs suck!" to "in the last 2 minutes of the game a 94% success rate sucks".

it's one of those arguments where you either think games are fixed, refs are awful people who couldn't tie a shoe and they're all cheating or you think it's an extremely difficult and thankless job being micro-judged by millions of people who get to watch 30 replays in super slo-mo before they make a decision.

sure there are some really awful looking blown calls but those are unfairly used as an example of how bad all calls are. it's a really....... simple.... way to look at the situation.
To be fair you kinda moved them when you pointed out the refs have a 94% success rate per an independent study which turned out to actually be a link to a league study on just the final two minutes.

Also if you look at the data they really muck up certain calls at a really high %. I mean they get shooting fouls correct 77% of the time? When a guy steps out of bounds they get correct at 79% and that they can review. Loose ball fouls are called incorrectly 47% of the time. Offensive fouls are called wrong 66% of the time. Traveling they get correct 20.6% of the time???? These numbers are actually pitiful.

I mean the only reason the % is as high as it is because they gave themselves a 99.7% rating on intentional fouls to stop the clock and they get the shot clock violations correct 97.1% of the time.

What a game.  Houston loses by 41 pts to go down 2-1 and everyone pronounced them dead.  Reminds me of 2016 when the Cavs lost game 2 by 33 to GS and everyone said Cavs were done.  Series not over though.

Both heavy favorites by Vegas GS and Cavs are now down 3-2 without home court.

I didn't pronounce them dead.

Please fix your post

Golden State with the worse case of the yips since, well, I don't know when. The mental mistakes were just atrocious.

Kudos to Houston. The mistakes don't happen without all that pressure.
Yup. 2 best offenses in the game bogged down under 100 points two games in a row. Defense is winning this championship one way or another. Is this worse than down 3-1 vs OKC with home court? Personally, I think so. But I also think they can win this. Harden is a bit of a mess for whatever reason. The word choker is entering the conversation. This is the biggest stage he's seen and he's way off his game. Chris has been nails. He's had help but he's led these two wins. He's hurt so.

Meh.  The offenses are bogged down because of how much contact is being allowed.  These teams could be shooting 50 FTs a game each, but it isn't being officiated that way.

Not in a mean way, but I hate yours. I hate "this is the real finals" because you know, it's not.
That's cool.  I get your perspective, even though I really don't give a #### what you think of mine.

edit to add:  not in a mean way either.  What others think of me or my views really doesn't matter.

Ok fine.  I admit I want the Rockets to win because I think the Cavs have a better chance to beat them than the Warriors and I want Lebron to win all the championships.
