2017-18 NBA (Playoffs): A gasping, wheezing thread begs message board poster arguing how Jordan never lost a Finals to just let it die in peace (3 Viewers)

Let's play this game for a minute.

Assume Paul is out for the rest of the playoffs and the Rockets beat the Warriors. Does this make the team coming out of the East the favorite or at worst a coin flip?

Top of the draft is really interesting this year. Ayton seems like a lock to the Suns but who knows what will happen after that. Kings and Hawks aren’t exceptionally high on Doncic. Maybe another team trades up to get him? Hawks apparently like Jackson at 3. Porter’s back is a big question mark. Will teams think Bagley’s success in college will translate? In the past a big man like Bamba would certainly go very early but with so many teams playing small, who knows. Young’s NBA success could range from Stephen Curry’s to Jimmer Fredette’s.
I’m having trouble believing the Doncic stuff isn’t a smoke screen but who knows.

Smoke screen how?
I don’t know. Maybe the Kings are trying to downplay their interest so Phoenix doesn’t try to extort them for a trade up or something. It’s hard to find a draft evaluator who doesn’t have Doncic as a clear #2 overall (or 1).  If Vlade and Peja really pass on him that’d be a huge red flag for me.

It is an issue in the playoffs because your weakest defender gets bum hunted every single play.  That marginal difference of the "5th ranked" players can easily offset the marginal difference of everyone else on the floor.
They're not mutually exclusive.

People can acknowledge that Iggy is important to the Dubs success AND can feel that the Dubs still have enough talent to beat the Rockets (even minus Iggy and Houston + CP3).

You keep pointing out how important Iggy is....but if 2 former MVPs and 2 All-Stars can't beat out this years MVP+ CP3 flanked by Gordon and PJ Tucker!!!....that's a major upset and under achievement. The Dubs "dynasty" will forever be a laughter (Kyrie/Love injured, 3-1, adding KD, losing to a team with lesser talent), but that shouldn't surprise me as long time Dubs fan (why can't we have nice things?)!!

As you can see I'm preparing for the worst....

If they don’t pick Doncic then who? Bagley?

pre-draft information from teams is almost always the worst stuff out there. Some teams are fine telling their business, but most would rather remain coy and try to get an advantage if they can (like Hinkie trading Elfrid to Magic for Dario and an additional pick. not sure how the 6ers knew the Magic were so high on Elfrid, but they played that one well).

ETA: also remember back to the draft where the Sixers got Okafor at 3. I think DeAngelo went 2nd to the Lakers. And there was all this talk at how great Okafor was from most of the media, when you would hear some minor rumblings about how his game wouldn't convert to the NBA. i think people are so scared to be wrong

Regular season accolades are stupid.  I said this was going to be an incredible series.  Apparently I am the only one who understands how good this Rocket team is especially because they were specifically constructed to beat the Warriors.

Yep. You're the only one.

Again...the Rockets are the best team the Warriors have faced...the Dubs still have more talent.

I will admit it. I was dead wrong about this series. GS might still win it, but I didn't give the Rockets much of a shot. They have impressed me.

If my old HS football coach saw Curry playing with this mouthpiece like this, he'd probably want to grab it and throw it as far as he could.

One thing this series is illustrating - no matter how good players 1-4 are, its really tough to have a good NBA offense vs a smart NBA defense when your #5 players is a complete Zero on O.

Defenses had to at least respect Iguodala (plus the exceptional defense he brings)

Houston is not even guarding Looney, Bell, West on defense.

Kerr needs to play Livingston over any of these other scrubs

You can make a case it is 3.5, because they would gladly let Draymond take anything 15 feet and out all day.

Did anyone see how emphatic Barkley was about Houston not having any chance at winning ONE game in this series?  It was after the first game.  So great.

I haven't watched any of the post games after that.  Have they brought it up yet??

Klay needs to shoot more, wasn't he the one that started the comeback against the Thunder a couple years ago? I think the Warriors were down like 10+ , in game 5 or 6 and he went off.
