NC State just upset #2 Arizona in the Bahamas!

Really glad the NCAA did the right thing with Braxton Beverly - he had 20 points, 2 assists, 2 steals, and just 1 turnover.

Coach Keatts had been impressive since day one, now we see that he is just as good an in game coach. Archie who?

:wolf:
Nice win for Keatts and the Pack

If the NCAA really wants to raise the stakes in March they should adopt a rule where if you make the Final Four you get a one year pass from Dicky V calling your games.

Pomeroy College Basketball Player of the Year rankings so far:

1  Trae Young, Oklahoma

2 Mikal Bridges, Villanova

3 Bonzie Colson, Notre Dame

4 Marvin Bagley, Duke

5 Ethan Happ, Wisconsin

6 Jock Landale, Saint Mary's

7 Deandre Ayton, Arizona

8 Luke Maye, North Carolina

9 Jevon Carter, West Virginia

10 Shamorie Ponds, St. John's

I'm sure there's some sort of precedent for this- a three star recruit well outside the Top 100 possibly becoming an all-conference guy despite playing at an elite program alongside five star guys- but I can't remember it.

Anybody here have any insight or a connect to Duke tickets? Want to go to the FSU/Duke game on 12/30.

I missed this game...what was the deciding factors?
Duke didn't defend the pick & roll very well tonight. State was very efficient on the offensive end. Good balance with the scoring. Yurtseven held his own and pulled down 9 rebounds, he didn't let Duke speed him up when he got the ball inside.

State did a really nice job coming up with an answer whenever it looked like Duke was about to make a run.

Duke's defense absolutely blows chunks. And K just constantly spouts excuses about the team not being deep enough and not having time to practice. Total garbage.  I honestly think he has lost it

Duke's utter inability to defend.  Combine that with the disappearance of Grayson Allen, and Duke can't win a road ACC game to save its life.  Krzyzewski has, sadly, suffered a steep and sudden decline in coaching ability.  It'll take missing the NCAAs (possibly next season) or another first-round exit for most people to realize it, but he's likely nearing the end.

Why Duke doesn’t play zone I’ll never understand. Make a team shoot lights out from 3 is a lot easier to stomach than watching layups and dunks.

Not being mean or malicious here but I dont think Dukes players are smart enough to run it effectively.  They are young and never have played it in their entire basketball career.  They dont do it on the AAU circuit so I doubt its a concept thats easily mastered.  WHy bother when half of them will be gone after this season?

Good to See State on the rise. Arizona, Duke, and Clemson...very impressive.

I just wanted to make everyone aware that in 24 hours, a very longstanding streak will end. The Clemson Tigers are a mere one day away from winning at the Dean Dome for the first time ever. It’s been a long time coming, but happy that it’ll no longer be something that passes on from team to team. We shall erect a banner in Littlejohn to commemorate the victory.

I wish Tarheel Boy posted here so I could tell him to suck it.  :)

I'm convinced the only reason K doesn't play zone all the time is that they'd win too easy.   He wants to harden them up for the post season with some closer games and the occasional loss.  He's the GOAT for a reason.

They made 15 frigging shots in a row during that game and still didn't win. I don't think I've ever seen a basketball team make 15 FGs in a row, let alone lose the game in which it happened.

I think NCSU just did it two weeks ago.   Not going to check, the pain is still fresh.
I just did a quick two minute scan of the play by play and I couldn't find more than 4 made shots in a row.

They had longer runs of productive offensive possessions once you factor in free throws and offensive rebounds, which is just as painful of course. But it's a lot less improbable.

Oh, we're talking about two different things; I never pay attention to Clemson games in CH, had no independent knowledge, and misread what you wrote.  Sorry.

NCSU scored points on nine straight possessions and had another streak of seven straight scoring possessions against Duke.  But no, they didn't hit 15 consecutive field goals, although that isn't as unheard of as you seem to think.  But only Clemson could manage to do that and lose, and only UNC could withstand that and win.  Did I mention I don't watch or pay attention to Clemson games in CH?

I honestly don't know if this is true, and the dork in me is kinda curious. Nobody seemed to make that big of a deal about it in any writeups I saw, but my intuition tells me it's incredibly rare, especially in the three point line and shot clock era. Google wasn't really all that helpful, despite a couple different attempts.

I saw that until two years ago the record for a consecutive made FGs by a player in the NCAA was 27, and while that's a lot more than 15 that also obviously includes players who don't shoot that often or from beyond 10 feet, of which there are many. Teams are a different story.

If you find out, post it and @ me.  I know a Yale kid hit 30 or so across multiple games not long ago, but upon reflection, perhaps a team hitting 15 in a row would indeed be ultra-rarefied air (or net).  But it seems like someone would have mentioned that in your postgame writeup.  Maybe they were too focused on Clemson's streak, truly one of the most ridiculous in the sport.  Clemson doesn't win much anywhere in the state of NC, either.  I think they have about six or seven wins ever in Durham.

It was mentioned in the writeups, but they didn't make a big deal of it. Seemed like a bigger deal to me, but who knows. I think you're right, just overshadowed by the losing streak inCH.

I posted the question over at IC just now, we'll see if anyone over there succeeds where I failed.

I don't get the hype with him.
He's obviously insanely athletic and very strong. But he's carrying too much weight,  doesn't shoot well (from outside anyway. Good FT shooter) and his level of HS competition has been HORRIBLE (seriously, his opponents are all like 5'9 private school kids).

As the # 1 option and focus of the defense at a place like Clemson, he would have a relatively rough time. As the # 3 option (or even #4 if Trent comes back, which isn't likely) with Tre Jones setting him up, he'll be able to hide his weaknesses and just be a finisher.

Gotta lose like 15 lbs though.

i still dont think he's ever going to be some great NBA player though.

Gotta believe the winner of this weekend’s game between UVA and Duke will likely get the #1 seed for the ACC tournament. Best defensive team vs best offensive team. Who wins?

I'm reverting to my original incarnation as an ACC hoops fan for at least the next 4 hours. State/UNC, then UVA/Duke.

It's like the old days, having the power teams on in the afternoon. I can almost hear Jim Thacker & Billy Packer.........
