2017 New York Jets: Robby Anderson has been arrested in Florida for the second straight offseason. This is why we can't have nice things. (1 Viewer)

Wow that was an ugly game with the Giants.....Hack looks completely overwhelmed...Petty looked good vs scrubs...no point in playing McCown who hasn't even taken a snap in last 2 games....what do we think Bowles does?

Shame about Petty but it doesn't look like they were going to give him a chance anyway - even though he's looked so much better than Hack.

I do not know how Bowles could say Hack won the QB competition with a straight face, but how do you name McCown the starter after him seeing two series the entire preseason? Were they trying to protect him from injury?

It's going to be a long season boys.

NY media ready to unleash.....it's clear they wanted Hack to win the job but he just didnt.....I hate the idea of a 37 yr old QB with no snaps in most preseason games leading this team....but Hack may make this team a laughing stock.....if it's not already.

Im all for the tank and get that #1 pick...if they start Hack so be it.....can't wait for Bowles to eloquently explain his actions this pre season and decision to the rabid sharks in the media.

I think they will have to start McCown for the first couple of games just to avoid any implication of actual tanking and to maybe let Hack catch his breath a little.

It's not like McCown is going to be able to win with that supporting cast anyway and it's highly likely he'll get hurt "forcing" the Jets to start Hack.

agreed- thats what makes the most sense....that being said it is the Jets so who knows!

I swear if they wind up winning a few meaningless games this year missing out on the stud QBs I may have a breakdown....still not over beating Tenn for MAriotta!

Manish really going after Mac last week or 2...1st on not trading a sure to be high 2d rder to get Kamara which I wouldnt have done....and for picking Hack so early which is fair...article today saying Mac panicked when Texans traded up - thought they were going after HAck and when they passed he jumped on him too early.  Hack looks awful so far so easy to hit MAc for it.....JEts 2d rd picks are literally a graveyard so maybe I'm just conditioned to not care....

looking at Mac's tenure the question is if this season ends up as bad as it looks do both get fired or just Bowles?  I can't see both surviving as it will be a ghost town in Met Life by late November - even though its not fair to can Bowles with such an awful roster someone is going to have to be fired.....question is does Mac deserve to draft a top pick and spend $70M again after last time?  I'm not so sure...I guess it depends on who else is available...if a big name/improvement is out there I dont see how Mac has earned that kind of security - if its a mediocre list of candidates then I'd be ok giving him one more shot...especially by letting him pick the coach - it's crazy that he had no say over the HC...any thoughts?

I like Alvin Kamara but trading away a 2018 second to move up to get him would have been idiotic.

As far as the future of Mac and Bowles - if Woody let Mac go in this direction I would have to think he assured him of at least one more season. If the team does get the top pick and is going to take a QB (duh) then I think you have to fire Bowles and let a new HC take over. The worst thing they can do is to let Darnold (or other) rookie have to learn a whole new system after year one.

Mac has a lot of misses - but he has some hits as well. I'd be ok with one more year especially if what he's doing now lands them a franchise QB.

this team needs a new offensive minded head coach, once bowles is shown the door..
last offensive minded coach for the Jets....Rich Kotite!

Last 1st rd pick on offense for the Jets...Mark Sanchez

Not exactly a shocker the offense looks so awful!

Trying hard to remember back to Kotite and 95/96

I can't remember feeling THIS ####ty and hopeless about a season.

Then again, that was the season I gave in and started playing Fantasy Football.... I fought playing FF and considered myself a Football diehard that wanted to concentrate on the game and not a "silly" stats game or individuals

So, I do credit the ####tiness of the Jets for the need to find some sort of excitement and hope in a Football season.

Thank You, New York Jets.

At least this ####ty and hopeless season should serve a purpose and is part of a plan to rebuild the roster. We just have to hope they can pull it off properly.

The one solace I take is that there's no pressure this season and I do not have to feel crappy on Monday after a tough loss - they will be a tough team to watch of course but at least there are some things to pay attention to like the young WRs and the key members of what could be a pretty good defense in the future.

I remember the Kotite yrs too well.....Hess booted a young Pete Carroll after 1 freaking season where they choked away a playoff spot (fake spike) - Hess decides he wants to win now and in the most ironic move of all time hires Rich Kotite lol....so it's fair to say the Jets were not expecting to fall flat on their face with Kotite.....2d season with him they went on a spending spree...signed Neil O'Donnell to a huge deal, Jumbo Elliot, Jeff Grahm, drafted Keyshawn Johnson and again expected to win now....instead the wheels completely fell of and they tanked hard....

So yes I've never gone into a season so hopeless...but agree with Doc that I'm ok with it as long as the kids develop and they finally get a blue chip franchise QB as a result....still gonna be a loooong season though.

That's what I mean tho..... Year 1 of Kotite was "not expected to be a tank".... they still had some talent.

Then Keyshawn with Chrebet and those FA"s we're actually the base of what became a competitive Parcells team.

NOW???????

It's like we're a year Behind a Kotite Dump. And other then the Safeties, some DL and some hopeful WR parts, the roster has a long way to go to even be the 95/96 Jets who, of course immediately became a contender with a legit H/C in 97/98!!!!!

THIS is pretty much the bottom of even Jet fandom.

I feel like how I did during Kotite year except there is no Parcells to come in and save the team.....I guess that would have to be the #1 pick.

Hackenberg is pretty awful.
To be fair, Hack looked much better last night - albeit against backups and with a simplified game-plan. He threw a few really nice balls though and showed more awareness. I still have doubts that he'll amount to anything but as shown in the game last night, McCown will not stay healthy for very long so Hack will  get another chance in real game action and we'll see what happens.

hysterical headline from rotowrld last pm on playng McC ....

"Jets try to get McCown hurt...nearly succeed"   :lmao:

If ASJ is the starting TE for this team, why was he playing last night?
He has to sit out two games and they were trying to get McCown and the starting unit some time together since McCown played one series this preseason.

Robby Anderson and Bilal Powell all played as well.

That Rotoworld hatred is out of hand these days although that's kind of funny. They don't do that to other teams though.

Plausible. I guess.

McCown said after he had wind knocked out, he went down to a knee on field "so Hack would have time to warm up." Veteran move.

Jets acquired WR Jermaine Kearse and undisclosed draft compensation in exchange for DT Sheldon Richardson.
Probably just a late round pick - and Kearse really does not excite me at all. Richardson was gone next year anyhow.

Later Sheldon, you were a pretty good player, but a bigger #####. One less bad apple in the clubhouse.

"In Richardson-Kearse trade, Jets are getting Seahawks' 2018 second-round pick and teams also swapping 7th-round picks, per source." (Schefter)

What's up with the RB situation now?  With Forte likely staying and "healthy" could there possibly be another timeshare brewing?

This is the only team where trading Sheldon Richardson for Jermaine Kearse and a second would be a win.
Considering that they won't re-sign him and won't get a comp pick because they will spend a ton of money next year, it's a great deal. He's one strike from a one-year suspension I think and a total idiot. Not only was he in a year-long feud in the clubhouse, he still couldn't keep his mouth shut this summer after Marshall was traded.

The Jets have a ton of depth on the d-line and would have had to cut a decent young prospect or two.  I give this team a lot of crap, but it was a good deal (for both teams).

I'm aware that he's going to walk, it's just going to be frustrating watching him light it up in Seattle and then talk about the Jets' clubhouse. I can just see it now.

wow a straight 2d rder and Kearse....Richardson is talented but completely agree on above....great deal!

Classic Bowles with that punt late in the game. At least we don't have to worry about them blowing the draft slot.

When people tell me there is no way the Jets can fire Bowles after the poor team he was given this season I point them to games/decisions like yesterday - one of the worst Jet coaches I have ever seen and that is really saying something!

Thoughts on the game

1.  For the 1st time I can remember - completely emotionless....even found myself cringing that they might pull it out...Im all in on the tank.

2.  Why play McCown....he's not going to capture that one season of FitzMagic....the team is all in for the future and playing him is a complete waste of time....put in one of the kids.

3.  RBs - another mind boggling Bowles decision - Forte looked like he was running in quicksand and to top it off dropped 2 easy catches....Powell finished last season as one of the hottest RBs in the league and he barely sees the field the 1st half...it's time for the change - make Powell the workhorse...if he gets hurt so be it and go to McGuire...Forte is done and will not be on the team next season...what is Bowles seeing?

4.  OL - awful run blocking...decent pass blocking....going ot see stacked fronts all season so get used to it!

5. WRs - happy with Kearse and Stewart showed some big time athleticism - he needs more time....Anderson looks sickly thin....

6.  TE - Tye looked like the best TE in yrs....still think ASJ will be the man and one of the focuses of the offense when he returns.

7.  DL - losing DL finally catching up to them...watching Snacks with the Gmen last pm made me sick....no Snacks or Sheldon makes this a much lesser front line....Mo had a flash or 2 but just dont see him as a franchise player and unless a big reversal it will be his last season.....Leo didnt jump out this game

8.  LBs - not blown away by Lee.....still seems to have problems covering when speed is his strength....lack of height is just killing him

9.  DBs - positive - Burris nice pick....maybe he can be a solid young #2 CB....Claiborne meh....Skrine should have been cut....Maye played ok and learned a lesson on that TD...its gonna happen...Adams showed flashes of stardom.

10 Coaching - on  a positive I liked the game the new OC called....Bowles was putrid....emotionless, looked defeated and confused....awful call on early 2 point decision....should be fired after punting when down double digits with 4 minutes left...he did the same last yr...this is who he is...there is no developing....time to go.

All in all a better than expected outing against a terrible team.....1 down 15 to go...

Forte looks like he was wearing cement shoes - just release the guy and let Powell finally get his chance and work McGuire into the mix.

I don't think there should be much concern about winning more than 2 games... the team looked awful.  Only prob is so did SF and Ind...

all I hear is Powell cant handles the full load of carries....yet Ive never seen him get the chance except late last season when he dominated.....if Bowles thinks playing Forte at all let alone give him him the majority of snaps the 1st half is literally mind boggling.

They will be doing themselves and whichever QB they draft a tremendous disservice by brining Bowles back for another year. Guy just can't cut it. His explanation for punting in the 4th just showed how clueless he is.

there are some bad teams out there....if Luck doesnt come back Indy is right in the mix for the top pick (which is ironically how they got Luck in the 1st place)....SF looked horrific.....so thats 2 teams that worry me....still not convinced on Buffalo, Cleveland...Jax looks good enough to be out of the top 2 mix but still early......I swear if we endure this horrific season and end up outside the top 2 I may need to take some time off.
