Well Hossa wasn't going to play forever on a $1MM/yr salary. I think every other player who hits that point of their deal hangs up the skates or heads to Europe.
I understand that but I don't think anyone anticipated it being this year, which IMO was the main reason for the Panarin trade for Saad.

probably 2-3 years of being one of the top teams in the league left.  not sure why anyone would think different, core is still all there from a 118 point team
Yeah, that was mostly snark. They're obviously a playoff team for the next few years. I don't know that I see them being as good as they have been the last two years, but they aren't likely to fall off of the map. IMO they probably are on the downslope now, though, with last year's team as the likely peak for this core group.

Michael Russo @Russostrib·7m

#mnwild has traded Marco Scandella and Jason Pominville to #sabres for Tyler Ennis, Marcus Foligno and a draft pick

Ennis 2 years left at 4.6M

Foligno RFA, made 2.25M

Scandella 3 yrs left at 4M

Pomminville 2 yrs left at 5.6

No $ retained

Straight salary dump for Wild?

don't like it.  for the price D men are going for that is terrible return.  basically a move to dump Pomminville's contract so they can sign RFAs and have flexibility.  Should have went after a big fish or center.  Ennis needs to finally stay healthy and reach his potential for this deal to be worth it.  though, Scandella was expendable so worst case it shouldn't hurt them.  just unlikely it makes them better.

Tomorrow is supposed to be a fun day but I really see the Canes not doing much and I am not sure there is anything they can actually do to make them a real cup contender.  They have so much young talent but not really a true first line.  So I guess I will hope we have a chance at the playoffs.  Darling helps if he can handle the job but it is not enough.  Also, even being from Pittsburgh, I hate the Pens.  :D

McKenzie went on a twitter frenzy naming a lot of the moves expected today:

Ryan Miller to Ducks

Sharp to Chicago

Pavelec to NYR

Bernier to Avs

Dadanov and Haley to Fla

Johnson to Buf

Elliott to Phi

Girardi to TB

Daley to Det

Mason to WPG

Gagner, DelZotto, Nillson to Van

He noted that they're all verbal agreements and that they could change but those are most likely today.

Mike Commodore @commie22

Folks...Williams camp says Justin is intrigued by TO..but he knows Babs is a piece of ####...so Toronto is 100% out. #Insiderr9:34 AM · Jul 1, 2017

Shattenkirk to Pens?
Never seen them linked, it's been NJD, NYR, BUF and BOS. But that would be wonderful, hope they give him 7/49.

And this just posted, let's see how good his sources are:

Folks...word out of Shattenkirk camp is Kevin is leaning fairly strongly towards The Boston Bruins. #Insiderr10:06 AM · Jul 1, 2017

Where are you seeing that? We don't have the cap space unless we let Schultz walk and even then it'll be tight. Still big holes at 3rd and 4th C too with no one young in the pipeline ready to move up. Maybe Rowney on the 4th line, but that would be far from ideal.

Aaron Ward: Unofficially hearing Alzner and Montreal Canadiens have agreed on a 5 year deal at roughly $4.5M per. #TSN

That's not godawful if true, was expecting some wacky GM throwing 6m+ per his way.

@BSH_Charlie: Today, I will relax in the sun, hope PHI doesn't dump good players to sign bad ones, & root for East teams give out tons of awful contracts.

Yea they're pretty much set unless they dump a Read or Weise somehow, should be a quiet rest of the summer.

What lwere your thoughts on the Schenn trade?

The picks brought back were fair return. Not sure they used the picks wisely though.

Yuck. Couver is gonna Couver I guess

@FriedgeHNIC: Lots of moves coming for VAN. Looks like (unconfirmed) Gagner at 3x3-ish, Del Zotto at 2x3, Nilsson at 2x2.5-3 and Burmistrov at $900K.

Those are all players they can flip at the trade deadline.
That's true but I don't see the point in rushing out to sign mediocre players.

Makes me wonder if they were bidding against themselves and maybe prices drop in a couple days.

Overall that franchise can't decide if it's rebuilding or not.
