2018-19 NBA Thread: Magic Johnson leaves Lakers in order to pursue other jobs to be completely terrible at (3 Viewers)

4.8 seconds from the inbound. Had only like 3 seconds left. There's only one guy going to shoot it. If he passes back, clock expires.  Why risk it. Stay on him. Don't give him an easy layup because of a switch. Not all Jimmy's fault. That was just terrible defense all around.

That's what is going to be the sixers downfall in the playoffs. Defensive lapses at the end of games.

Did Brown address this in post game? The problem with not switching is Butler getting picked by Lopez or Butler and Scott could get hung up crossing each other.  I assume the bad defense was on Scott.

I agree a lot was on Scot too. Just felt like Jimmy could've fought through a little harder to make Levine have to take a bad shot.

I've been ok with Brett. Thought he was a decent coach and that the tank was not indicative of his coaching talent. But this is getting out of hand with these late game collapses especially to a team with 18 wins. They were up 10 in the 4th quarter. That should have been game over. Credit Chicago for fighting but the Sixers defense let Levine have layup after layup.

His job is on the line this post season. If we don't make it past the second round, he's gone.

today's anti-Lebron reasoning

he moved to 4th on the all-time list last night but celebrated it on court with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Rajon Rondo, Javale McGee and some guy named Caruso. a good player would have celebrated with....... better..... teammates, apparently?

Except for the opera singer, aren't those all LeBron "4th all-time worst GM" James signees?

realizing that his greatest failing was not signing Harden, Curry, Kawki and Giannis to play with the Lakers this year i don't see how celebrating moving up the all-time scoring list has anything to do with who he celebrated the achievement with

I'm as anti-LeBron as they come but knocking him for who he is celebrating with is pretty weak.

you don't think he should at least aknowledge his current teammates, the one's he is on the court with? Does KCP or Caruso even get minutes still? I would think at least an acknowledgement to the younger guys would be the least he can do. but it seems pretty obvious he is all for team LeBron at this point and that is all that matters.

Best play last night was early on and he was about 4 points away - Lakers had a 3-1 fast break started by LeBron and he hustles down court. Wing had ball driving to hoop and drawing defender with LeBron running free down the middle for a patented poster dunk - he raised his hands asking for the ball and wing passed it to the opposite side guy coming in for a drop in. LeBron gave them the look and raised his hands like he did to JR in the playoffs last year. Sorry old man.

i'm getting concerned as well. I still think it is real hard to coach basically 3 different teams (probably 4 if we count the starting of Fultz) through the season. I think this was a miscommunication between Scott and Butler, but you figured you should cover the guy with 37 points and not Lopez outside the paint. it has gotten past the point of a minor letdown and is a trend. too talented of a team to lose these kinds of games.

I was listening to something either yesterday or today, and they talked about how they only had like 7 or 8 points in the last 10 minutes of both of these games. I know they aren't that reliant on Embiid, but something needs fixing

on the plus side i just like seeing literally anything bad happen to the lakers so this is great seriously if like a thermostat doesnt work in a lakers office and someone is slightly uncomfrotable that makes me happy i just think they stink take that to the bank bromigos

Someone brought up a good point today. The things that make Brett a good players coach make him a bad actual coach. He's a people person. He has the guys back. He's always friendly and careful not to step on their egos. Now he doesn't need to go full Popovich but at some point there has to be real accountability for these mistakes. So many turnovers. So many missed switches. So many mental lapses especially in the 4th quarter. We'll see what happens down the stretch but I don't understand why Mike Scot is on the floor if he doesn't understand that Levine coming off a screen needs a body in his way and Lopez can be left alone.

You must have loved the organization complaining about the Pelicans not negotiating 'in good faith' then.  Considering the obvious tampering going on, it seemed pretty rich.

Neubeck had a good article on it today. https://www.phillyvoice.com/five-star-review-failure-adjust-dooms-sixers-vs-bulls-brett-brown-ben-simmons-james-ennis/

Harris was on the broadcast and really seemed to infer that Brown does need to show improvement this post season

i had to look up where the pelicans played but now they are one of my top five favorite teams take that to the bank brohans

Lebron is playing 35 minutes per night, averaging 27.1 pts, 8.6 rebounds and 8 assists per game

bro is finished. he's garbage.

best player on that team is Kuzma, imo. be lucky if they can move Lebron for a 2nd round pick in 2022.

They rarely run pick n' rolls.  That's odd considering the offensive talent on the Sixers.  The plays out of timeouts are nothing to write home about either.

Before LeBron had passed MJ, the Lakers had a three-on-one fast break. Hart was slightly more open than LeBron for a layup, so Wagner passed it to him instead of LeBron and Hart laid it in. LeBron immediately raised his hands in a state of incredulity and kept them there as he trotted back to play defense. I think he brushed off Wagner when he tried to give him a five on the way back. It was insane. He has lost his mind.

I am not sure why you are doing this. LeBron is obviously amazing, but his effort and attitude have been utter trash this year. It's okay for people to call him out on that stuff. He is not infallible.

For Lebron last night may have been a "what-if" nightmare - Malone/Connelly talked to him before the season began about coming to the Nuggets. Nuggets were perfectly constructed for him with the Joker being able to feed him cutting and on fast breaks. On drives pop it out to Murray or Harris - even the Joker for 3. His minutes would have been cut to better handle his age. If he had been concerned about championships.

But hey - he's in Hollywood now.

I watched the game, and I think this is reading too much into the play.  LeBron was wide open for a monster dunk; I think Wagner should have given it back to him instead of hitting Hart.

I know you're saying this sarcastically, but IMO it's entirely possible and defensible if, at this point in his life, he prioritizes being in LA and the business and lifestyle perks that come with it (not just the weather but living in a place where famous people are everywhere and the town is set up to accommodate them and he's not expected to change everything) as more important than being on a team good enough to advance far enough to lose to the Warriors in late May or early June.

Honestly I kind of assumed that was the thinking behind the move. Unless he'd already worked something out with AD and Kyrie last summer or something.

Hart was definitely more open than LeBron and it led to an easy basket. I just thought it was silly that he would behave that way towards a teammate. It was all about him passing MJ in that moment.

That was the play I was talking about earlier - wish I could find a replay of that. You are right it was pretty selfish.

I skimmed the last page and missed your post, that play really jumped out at me as well. It was early in the game, he was obviously going to pass MJ at some point, they got the bucket - give me a break.

I think it also had a lot to do with where he wanted his kid playing/going to high school.

Yeah I should've included that too. Lots of potential non-basketball reasons for the move, and lots of reasons to prioritize non-basketball stuff (age, legacy already secure, Warriors, etc).

To the Bulls? Yea. Especially when they could have moved into 3rd.
Ok, so should I be mashing keyboards over the Blazers' loss to Memphis two nights ago? That was also to take sole possession of 3rd.  It's a bad loss in the regular season.  It happens.  Move on.

If I was from Portland, I'd be more inclined to not give a crap about basketball. Unfortunately we take sports way too seriously in Philly.

Having a go at the good ole "#1 Bron Homer" shtick, eh?

Mike Scott has always been a poor defender.  The problem is that it was either Scott, Amir or bolden.  I’m sure that Brett doesn’t trust bolden all around and Amir is about to break In half at any moment.  So I think he is just living with Scott’s offensive upside and seeing that as the biggest net positive.

I guess he could have tried to sub defense for offense and hopefully Amir would have been in better position, but I doubt he would handle that well physically.  I’m still not sure I trust amir much with that kind of play anywAy since he let Blake rip the team’s heart out back in november(?)
