2018 NHL Thread: Cappy is happy while the rest of us pray to the ping pong gods for Tuesday night (1 Viewer)

Ovechkin is first to score 28+ goals in his team's first 31 games since 1997, and third to do so since 1993-94. The others:

Jaromir Jagr: 1995-96 (28 G in 31 GP) & 1996-97 (30 G in 31 GP)

Mario Lemieux: 1995-96 (29 G in 27 GP)

Also has 3 more goals than Carolina’s bottom 3 forward lines combined
but what about the Canes non-shootout players?

Awful awful decision. Not just Aho but no Teravainen or Svechnikov either.

THEY SENT OUT KUOKKANEN, DI GIUSSEPPE, SLAVIN, HAMILTON, WILLIAMS AND MCGINN AHEAD OF AHO, SVECHNIKOV AND TERAVAINEN. YES I'M YELLING, IT'S SO STUPID.
WTF?...is it that hard to do simple thing right on a bad team.   WTF!

Get in town Saturday,  likely around noon(hopefully the weather is good), just messaged hotel about early check in. (Booked a smoking room by accident so need to change that)  If we can't get to the room early then we may head over around 1 or 2, if we can it may be closer to 3 or 4.  I will call you before either way.  Let me know if either works better for you and we'll make it happen.  My son and I will hit dinner somewhere and meet you at the game.

Thanks again!
If you hit me closer 4 you will following me to the game and we will do food up here and go to the game.  Probably the best plan.

I think it was Cam Ward's first game.  He stopped Mario, Sidney, and Ziggy.  Can you do better than that?

In a shootout.

I can't rip the Slavin choice, he's pretty slick in the shootout even if his numbers aren't elite.  Kuokkanen is good at it too.  Hamilton's move was awesome.

still dumb though.

My Peterborough Petes traded for Sharks 2018 first rounder, the Uber polarizing Ryan Merkley today, so I get to watch him be the best in the OHL at entering and exiting zones with the puck, and skating like the wind and racking up points and QBing the power play and making infuriating passes to the wrong team and getting caught up ice all the time at the absolute worst moments. Pretty pumped
:lmao:

Rumors rampant that Hakstol is coaching his last game tonight lose, lose in OT , or lose in shootout.

(Dead man walking)

@StephaliciousD: (it likely won't matter if they win tonight btw, I believe the decision has already been made)

@NHLBlackhawks: Corey Crawford will not return to tonight’s game. His status will be updated postgame. #Blackhawks

good thing Dumba had to "answer" for a clean hit on Backlund and land on IR himself.  because getting jumped by some plug wasn't enough.  gotta police those clean hits.  there you go, Grapes.

One of the dumbest things in hockey these days.

Wild playing much better than they were at the start of the season when they were stacking points but now they can’t buy a win.  hockey is weird.

not really sure. he's been having a rough go and I guess he just decided to stop showing up to work?

now the Sabres get out from the rest of his contract and have some extra cash to throw at Skinner.
Saves the Sabres about $3.8M in cap space, and if I understand correctly, Berglund then misses out on $12M -- ouch.

Meanwhile O'Reilly most recently pots the game-winner in OT against the Avalanche, still has (I think) >1 point/game average, and is generally flashing in the two-way abilities consistently for the Blues since the trade.

Trade was a win-win for both teams.  Eichel became the full leader of the team and is on a tear.  Thompson has some potential and has contributed here and there.  Sobokta is a solid grinder on the bottom six and the first round pick likely in 2020.

Sabres have enough cap to get Skinner done and go after some top 6 scoring which is much needed.  Cap isn't an issue right now.  Some solid prospects in the pipe.  Just battling some injuries right now.

Okposo contract is the one that really hurts, but who knows maybe Seattle will need to fill their roster.

Blues are still a mess and I think dealing O'Reilly did help the Sabres overall, but seems likely Botterill lost that trade as he should have gotten more in return. Can't sweat it too much though, assuming they are able to extend Skinner and Mittlestadt develops as hoped.

I was ok with taking on Berglund to upgrade the bottom 6, but he hasn't been very effective in that role. Getting out from his contract makes it more like a salary dump as they now free up a lot of future cap space compared to if they had held onto ROR.
