2020 NFL Free Agency & Trades - Jadeveon Clowney & Logan Ryan are still available (1 Viewer)

The NFL needs to allow teams to have physicals, for traded/signed players, by their own medical teams before the draft, right?

Consider this:

Stefon Diggs fails his BUF physical AFTER the draft... what happens to the draft picks swapped? What a you know what storm that would be...
I don't understand the rush to draft either when you consider almost all of the pre-training camp stuff is already canceled.

MAYBE the draft needs to conclude before August(I'm doubtful though). What's the point of doing this as scheduled?

You would think the NFL would take this opportunity to milk the draft(the only sporting event going on) for all the ratings they can get. Why not just have one round of the draft each WEEK? That way if there are technical issues/snafus in communication a team is on the clock for HOURS instead of MINUTES.

As things stand now if they try to run this as a normal draft there will be a lot less trades than normal if for no other reason because teams will take longer to communicate between themselves let alone communicating with a group of people from another team.

NFL.com's Mike Garafolo reports free agent LT Jason Peters remains in communication with the Eagles.

Garafolo reports via colleague James Palmer that the Browns, Jets and Broncos also maintain some interest in the 38-year-old. Per Garafolo, Peters would like to play into his 40s. In Philadelphia, Peters would be a hedge against second-year pro Andre Dillard if the Eagles decided to bring him back.

That might be tough.  How can you hand out a contract at this point when the season could be in jeopardy (at least more so than 3 months ago)?

Somebody needs to sign Logan Ryan.  Earlier tonight, he was revealed at #60 on the Top 100 Players of 2020.

Apparently, there's talk that Jadeveon Clowney is about to sign with the Jets.  From what I hear, Bradley McDougald, who was included in the Jamal Adams trade, wants him on the Jets.  And also, after watching Jalen & Jacoby on ESPN earlier, Jadeveon Clowney himself wants to go to the Jets.  Jadeveon Clowney with the Jets.  Does this make sense for both sides?

Sirius XM NFL Radio’s Adam Caplan reports the Seahawks are looking at free agent DT Marcell Dareus.

They’ve also been linked to veteran free agents Clay Matthews and Everson Griffen. Dareus would give Seattle a run stopper to pair with Jarran Reed and Poona Ford. He started all six games and graded out positively over 206 snaps before going down last year.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Patriots are hosting free agent TE Jordan Leggett with the intent to sign him.

The Patriots have been in the market for a veteran tight end following Matt LaCosse's opt-out. It's actually good news for third-round rookies Devin Asiasi and Dalton Keene as Leggett, Tampa Bay's fifth-round selection in 2017, failed to play a single snap last year and offers minimal pushback to playing time. If the 25-year-old is New England's only response to address that position, Asiasi remains an intriguing late-round flier in deeper fantasy leagues.

Free agent WR Tavon Austin is visiting the 49ers Wednesday.

The No. 8 overall pick (lol) of the 2013 draft, Austin caught a total of 21 passes for 317 yards and three touchdowns across 21 games for the Cowboys the past two seasons after being given away by the Rams. With Travis Benjamin opting out and Marquise Goodwin traded to the Eagles only to opt out himself, the 49ers have a need for speed. Austin, however, has shown very little since the Jeff Fisher days with the Rams. He turned 30 this offseason.

Cowboys signed DE Everson Griffen, formerly of the Vikings, to a one-year, $6 million contract.

Dallas is replacing a couple of big pieces on defense this year, and Griffen will be partly responsible in filling the void. Multiple teams expressed interest in Griffen this offseason, but waited until training camp to sign. He'll have to go through standard coronavirus testing before practicing, although he'll still have a few weeks with his new team before starting in the season opener. Griffen has at least 8.0 sacks in each of his last five healthy seasons and should be in line for another strong season alongside DE Demarcus Lawrence, DT Gerald McCoy, and DT Dontari Poe. The Cowboys have one of the best rosters in football.

Free agent RB C.J. Prosise worked out for the Lions on Thursday.

The Lions also worked out Troymaine Pope and Jonathan Williams. The Lions have one of the league's most crowded backfields, though the No. 3 spot is unsettled behind DeAndre Swift and Kerryon Johnson. It is the first we've heard of pass-catcher Prosise since his 2019 for the Seahawks was ended by a broken arm in December. Although he is still only 26 years old, Prosise's Dynasty league moment has obviously come and gone.

49ers brought in WRs Donte Moncrief and J.J. Nelson for a workout, along with Tavon Austin.

Austin was expected to workout for the Niners, and it seems Moncrief and Nelson are also on the team's radar as they look to fill out a receiver group that lost Travis Benjamin to an opt out, Marquise Goodwin to a trade, and Deebo Samuel to a foot injury that could keep him out for the first part of the regular season. Meanwhile, rookie WR Brandon Aiyuk remains available in the 12th round of 12-team leagues.

Free agent DT Timmy Jernigan is expected to sign with the Jaguars.

Jernigan’s one-year, $3.75 million deal with the Texans fell through after he failed a physical. Jernigan battled injuries while he was reduced to a 27 percent snap rate last year.  The Jaguars aren’t a great fit for him with Tavern Bryan, Abry Jones, Al Woods and rookie Davon Hamilton all on the roster.

Free agent Ziggy Ansah turned down an offer from the 49ers.

The 49ers were only willing to give him the veteran minimum ($910K). Ansah is coming off an injury filled 2019, playing 30 percent of snaps over 11 games. He's unlikely to get much guaranteed money.

Free agent Logan Ryan is letting teams know he considers himself a safety.

Ryan played the slot in Tennessee last year but has snaps at multiple spots. He’s one of the top free agents that’s yet to sign after declining multiple offers this offseason. Ryan is likely going to come off his $10 million asking price to land a deal.
