His turnaround fadeaway might one of the few truly unguardable type shots in the league's entire history. At his height profile plus his standing reach at full extension, that's just close to impossible to close out on.
What's interesting is Dirk indirectly changed the entire league. Cuban had a choice between Nash and Michael Finley and decided to resign Finley to a big deal and then he signed Erick Dampier as a free agent to a massive deal because rim protection was so much harder to find back then. The focus was on building around Dirk's strengths and weaknesses. Finley and Dampier dragged that team down while Nash went on to the Suns to find wild success with Mike D'Antoni. Seven Seconds Or Less changed the entire league forever. Every team now uses some legacy of SSOL in their offense. And I'm not sure Steve Nash gets that full evolution without spending some time running classic Nellieball as a Maverick.
It's interesting how so much of the league's history was based on a zero margin of error reality for NBA GMs. You made one move that failed on you and you could tank your team for half a decade or more.
In hindsight, it seems like pure lunacy to take Greg Oden over Kevin Durant in a draft, but positional value was simply much different back then for pivots. The Knicks have a kid, Jericho Sims, who they got at the end of the 2nd round, but teams 20 years ago would have been falling over themselves for a young prospect with that kind of tool set.
Dirk has some push/pull to his legacy because he brought tons of answers to a team's needs but he also raised lots of questions with the tradeoffs he carried with him. You needed a specific type of roster build around him to maximize his talent. It's hard to imagine how much more career success he could have had if Dallas had anyone better than Donnie Nelson running team personnel.

Yep. No one has had bigger expectations, and he has lived up to them all, but some will still blather on about mental toughness or something else silly that shows their hate more than it demonstrates any actual understanding here. Back to Gekko's point, I think it can easily be said that James' career maybe wouldn't have been as long back then as that kind of physical play would taken its toll, just like Tom Brady wouldn't have played well in his 40s had he played in the NFL in the 80s or 90s, but he would have adjusted and been just as dominant. Just like it took the Bad Boys to toughen up Jordan, the same would have happened with James (who is much more of a physical freak of nature than Jordan was).

He pretends to be hurt. Not as in pretends to be hurt to get a foul. He literally doesn’t get hit sometimes and falls to the ground holding his eyeball as if he was clobbered by Thor’s hammer and flails around on the ground pretends to be hurt.
I will never ever respect anyone who does that. Ever. Nor will I ever respect the opinion of anyone who doesn’t knock him for, I’ll say it again, pretending to be hurt.

I'm not sure the fact that he's a super diva means he lacks mental toughness (at least at this stage of his career - the Dallas-Heat finals were a different story). And his diva qualities are being exacerbated by the fact that he plays for the most spoiled and entitled organization in the league.

i dont think labron is mentally weak but i do think that he has at times given up and not given full effort when his team was outmatched i think specifically of his last year in cleaveland in the playoffs before he went to miami i dont recall mike ever doing that and on that narrow margin i would say mike was mentally tougher but that is just based on my memory of them both and mikes days are getting pretty far back in the rearview mirror take that to the bank brohans

The King is the best athlete - ability, durability, improvability, repeatability - i've ever seen in team sports, but he aint heard the word "no" since he was 13 years old. in fact, he hasnt heard anything less than "that's an incredibly good idea" for almost 20 yrs. you try that.
i've kinda pulled the BronHate bandwagon here for years, but i know & understand why he's such a ####. pounding a ball simply does not confer profundity, but every one whom he encounters makes it seem like it does, so he lives out in front of that. it's repulsive, no matter what you do.

Pretty much. I dont hate Lebron I just dont respect him as a player. I think he has a good heart and other then misguided information Im sure he is teaching his children, I suspect he is a good father.
He is just the culmination of an entire generation of coddling to athletes.

Not pretending to get touched when you were never touched is a good start. I’ll even allow the pretending to be touched to get a foul thing, it’s the pretending to actually be physically hurt when you’re not that is a problem. Is anybody debating this? Do you guys actually think that’s OK? Do you think that’s an honorable person and that type of person should be applauded?

If the rumor that they were screaming that they hoped his son died in a car accident are true, those two are pieces of trash and deserved to be kicked out.
I'd assume it was something really over the line, as James undoubtedly gets insulted a lot at away games, and doesn't routinely get people thrown out.

10 players off the top of my head that I would take over Lebron James each and every time. How I would defend James who has ZERO isolation moves other then lowering his head and traveling to the rim - I would call him very bad names.

If you could build a team starting from scratch and you had to pick just one player, lots of GM's would pick Curry, Duncan and The Dream over LBJ.
A major problem with the LBJ legacy is he becomes the defacto GM wherever he goes. LeGM is an idiot. LBJ the player has to compensate and burn the candle on both ends to make up for the massive flaws of LeGM aka LeQuit aka LeThargic aka LeMao. Then the sports media sells this tragic victim story about how LBJ gets no help and he has to do it all by himself. Of course you do when you take over running a team's personnel and you cap out the team with useless past their prime veterans and overpaid players who don't fit.
All of LBJ's rings are tainted in some way. Without the Birdman amnesty and the labor war that shortened a season, I don't know if the Heat win those two rings. People might say that's crazy but even with three good defenders in the Big Three Heatles, you still need actual rim protection. LBJ decided that he needed Juwan Howard on that bench. Big Z too. So a player Spolestra liked, the fringe roster guy Patrick Beverley, got cut. Then there was the "Nike ring" where the refs just cooked the Warriors. Nike gave LBJ a lifetime contract and wanted some ROI. That's it. Then there was the "Pandemic Ring" where 8 teams disappeared and the shortened one location season benefited older veteran teams who didn't have to grind a regular 82 game schedule plus travel.
LBJ doesn't suck, he's still a generational level player. But there is zero reason he shouldn't have 10 rings if he simply played the game like The Big Fundamental, The Dream and Wardell. Just stuck to one Eastern team, got a good GM like Morey and got out of the way and let a real experienced personnel guy build a team the right way and the organic way.
It should indicate the level of stupidity that exists in LeQuit that he tried to get Erik Spolestra fired. The best coach he's ever played for is someone he wanted gone. Even Kobe Bryant, another psychopathic nimrod in his own right, wasn't dumb enough to keep trying to push Phil Jackson out the door over and over. Spolestra is an incredible coach and smart players understand to lock into a coach they know can get them over the top. Wardell isn't trying to LeGM away a good coach in Kerr. Duncan was not going to be a diva and drive away Poppovich.
LeMao represents wasted opportunity. When you have that much talent, you aren't supposed to get in your own way. What TEAM success LBJ has had came about DESPITE his massive abilities. I'm not talking about individual success. LBJ can't win a ring going 1 Vs 5 for an entire season.
Billion dollar talent. Nickel sized brain.

Curry shows up yet again and dismantles the Clippers yesterday. It’s so routine that it doesn’t even raise the pulse of folks in here. Warriors are rolling……Suns up twice this week. Should be two fun games. Except for the parts where @trader jake’s boy Chris Paul struts around, barks orders, flops, takes cheap shots, and whines to the refs.

Hate Chris Paul's constant non-sense on the court. He's a first ballot Hall of Famer...in multiple ways.Only thing better than the Milwaukee Bucks winning a championship was doing it against my least favorite player of all-time. After Paul's team was up 2-0 and he (yet again) didn't get the job done when it mattered most. Some players 'Go Giannis' while others 'Get CP3'd'. link
Looking forward to watching Paul's team fail to win a championship again in this year's playoffs. That, my friends, you can take to the bank.
