2021 College football thread - Auburn’s gotta Auburn. (2 Viewers)

so you say there's a chance....

@skhanjr: Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher on the persistent rumors of him being courted to LSU:

"We're gonna recruit an unbelievable class this year. So I'm the dumbest human being on God's earth to recruit all these guys to A&M so I can go across over there and go play against them."

They are going to pay him ridiculous money to be slightly above average, forever.  He seems competent enough to manage that.  Why go somewhere that will run you out of town after winning a title?  It makes no sense.  So of course it will happen.

It sounds like Texas' date with ULM is shaky and may get moved.  This opens up the possibility that they will be riding a 9 (nine) game losing streak going back to Manhattan, Kansas in late September 2022 after losing to a not bad UTSA and Alabama at home.

There are going to be a *LOT* of coaching vacancies to fill.  More openings than good candidates for sure.  I bet you see some desperation moves like Arizona State tried with Herm Edwards.  I also bet you see the Oregons of the world offering their current coach whatever they want to stay.  Especially after Miami fires Diaz.

Oregon has 10000x more money than Miami. Miami’s football program is broke.

I've never been a Jimbo fan.  He's a good recruiter but that's about it.  I did not want to see LSU pay 10-12M a year to lose to Arkansas, MS ST and Ole Miss.  I really don't think there's anybody available that's worth that kind of money.   Give me Napier for 1/3 of that and let's see what happens.   He told Auburn and S Carolina no last year, so he had to have seen this opening coming and maybe had assurances from LSU.  I'm hearing that USC is going to make a move on Aranda.  I think he's going to be good for somebody.

The best thing about Tucker's new contract is that it's being paid for by Mat Ishbia, the little white walk-on guard who was the last guy off the bench for the basketball team when I was at MSU. He's now worth $6.7 billion.

5-7 at Colorado, 2-5 last year at MSU.  Good season so far for MSU but this seems like a big reach for someone who only had two losing seasons as a HC before this season. To be the second highest paid coach he needs to beat OSU 3 out of 4 years going forward. Hope he does as I don`t like OSU but it will be difficult to live up to that deal.

Good for Tucker though..even if MSU is a 500 team he is a very rich man.

Agreed.

So he should be held to a higher standard than say someone like...Jim Harbaugh then, amirite?

;)

Again, I agree.

I don`t follow Harbaugh that close.  Does he make that kind of cash too?

There as a local kid who plays at Colorado..Tucker said to the team and boosters he is not going anywhere, then the next morning took the MSU job.

Make no mistake this is not about Tucker but realize D-1 college coaches are all pretty much scumbags in it for themselves.  Winning is not for the team but for their own bank accounts and better jobs.  Add in D-1 BB too.

I mean, that’s everybody. Who isn’t trying to improve their lot in life. I can assure you if he went 4-8 multiple times, MSU would fire him without second thought. The idea of loyalty is a myth.

Before his new deal just this past year, I believe he was making in the neighborhood of $8million.

Very true.

If things go south soon for Tuck, I could see that definitely happening.

Anyone got links on the tech radio thing?  Sounds like they went off on the officials and now caught a ban for the ?season?

There is no loyalty for coaches and players, or schools and coaches.  Only thing is the coaches still get paid if they are fired.

One guy on ESPN Radio said that Tucker should cut a big check to RB Kenny Walker.  Had Walker not transferred MSU would be looking at 3-4 losses right now and Tucker would have nobody knocking on his door. Walker basically got Tucker a new deal.  Although the old deal was pretty good too.

Micah (sp?) Pittman transferring from Oregon.  Had a lot of hype coming in, brother and dad NFL guys but he just hasn't been visible at all.  Especially this year.

Now, it would probably help if Oregon had a QB who could throw the ball downfield but he's now the second 5 Star kid to bail this month.

I know what you're saying but the entire offense has been damn good all season, save for the OL, which has been spotty at best.  The Defensive secondary has been the problem the entire season. Hopefully tOSU sits all their stars like Urbs did in 2015 with Zeke.

Pittman was not a 5 star and only had 11 catches on the season

I agree..I watched watched a couple of games.  QB is better than I expected.  Walker has been a force who almost single handily won the Michigan game.  Pass defense is bad.  Purdue over 500 yards passing and a weak Michigan QB had 400.  That is very bad.

I have watched OSU and their QB is way better than Pudues and Michigans so that is going to be a tough road. But thats why you play the game.

I had no idea that a conference could suspend local radio guys. I guess they just don't give them access to the game. Makes the Big 12 look very petty.

will tomorrow be the day that penn state loses i dont even know who they play but i hope so take that to the bank brohans

So the #3 team in the nation travels to #23 and is an underdog by 3?  Feels like Vegas is BEGGING you to take Oregon.  This one worries me a lot as a Ducks fan, but if Oregon plays their game (runs the ball effectively, something Utah has trouble stopping and plays great defense) I think they'll prevail in an ugly one.  However, if they get down in a hole early, this one will be over real fast as the QB lacks the ability to bring them back against Utah.

Ohio State favored by 18.5 over MSU?   Geez, that's not a lot of respect for the #7 ranked team.  I'll probably swallow the points, though. Buckeyes will pour it on as they realize the importance of margin of victory (unlike the Ducks, who struggle to put teams away).

Baylor an underdog to Kansas State?  Seems fishy.

Gonna be an interesting day tomorrow.

To be fair, that was rather unprofessional of them based on the audio clip.  There's a way to get that point across without being obvious.  The crew chose violence instead.
