2021 College football thread - Auburn’s gotta Auburn. (1 Viewer)

Congrats Georgia.  Best thing that happened this whole season, other than Army/Navy, was Bama not winning the championship.

You need to spend more time in the butthole of the internet, the FBG PSF...if you make fun of caucasians it's impossible to be racist.  If Stetson Bennet the Fourth was black or Latinx or Asianed, we wouldn't make fun of him.  We only CAN and DO make fun of him because he is caucasianed and his name makes it sound like he was conceived, birthed, and raised on the practice greens of Augusta National.

Got it. We can make fun of white people because of how their names sound.

Making fun of blacks and Asians and whatever else, not cool. Making fun of white people is cool.

Nope...FGs aren't winning a national championship.  Not using timeouts and trying to post some points at the end of the first half isn't championship football.  Not a single team int he NFL would have let Georgia kill the clock there.  That crap works when 90% of your games are against teams with 50% of the talent.  When you are playing talent on par with you, you actually have to coach.

I don’t think Saban handed the game to Georgia but he’s been doing that conservative let’s take it to the half etc stuff for years, exactly because he knows he has a laughable talent advantage. 
 

And of course he’s not an NFL-caliber coach. If he were, he’d be in the NFL. He knows his lane and he stays in it.

I'm just curious... who was I racist against? From your posts it seems to me you think I was being racist toward Stetson. Maybe I misunderstood.

Because my post wasn't directed at Stetson at all, and I think that's pretty clear. It was a comment on the systemic racism in our society. My criticism was aimed at ESPN and their announcers. So, if anything, I was suggesting some racism on their part in who they chose to highlight in their coverage.

So as a white man myself, I accused two other white guys of possibly being racist in their praise of another white guy, and now I'm a racist. I'm not sure how that adds up, but again, you're entitled to your opinion. Certainly didn't mean to trigger you. Maybe you should just put me on ignore if my comments are that upsetting.

To me, that's basically handing them the game.  I told my son in the first quarter that Georgia would score at will in the 4th quarter.

Poor redzone play calling and completely ignoring analytics.

Sounds like politickin' with the girls while in New York City happened last night. 

Glad I slept through that part of it. Would have liked to see the game, though. 

But here's to this thread. Hope all the CFB heads had themselves a good year, Merry Little Holidays, and Happy New Year. That it was capped by Bama not winning was probably sweet for some, not so much for others. 

 
Fun ending to the season. I was pretty neutral but always pull for the underdog story so was hoping the Georgia QB pulled it off. Was super shaky early but came through. Fun game. Two great programs that will reload and be back.

Yeah, that's a heck of a catch. Thanks for alerting me to it. Just checked the highlight of it. I draft number nine in my dynasty draft. I'm looking long and hard at Pickens there. I'll bet the ACL will have healed just nicely by the time he's slated to play a pro game. I'm a sucker for that sort of height and long speed. 

 
So ESPN did something I wish we could an option for every week, which I've seen before but I've never stuck it out through the entire game, but they did a simulcast with the local Georgia affiliate calling the game.  Much, much better than Fowlergasm and his sidekick Herbie. I like Herbstreit, outside of being a commentator, but my God during the game the endless, runaway cliché train is kind of brutal to endure so this was pretty awesome to watch and listen to for a change.  I should say I'm not a Georgia fan, I just didn't want to watch the game on mute like I normally would.

Congrats to UGA fans...been a long run...happy for Kirby as the ultimate Saban disciple.  Great year ultimately to get almost everything played. We'll be back...with Bryce Young and Will Anderson!

Sales forecasts are now doubled from yesterday...the fanbase is going nuts.  Look for a Braves/UGA creative opp hopefully...

I didn't pay close attention but when I turned it on (on youtubetv) the channel I had showed the screen with like 5 different views. Maybe the "megacast"? I didn't look deeply and just switched to the channel that had the normal broadcast. 

What was the mega cast?

Congrats to Georgia fans. It was a long time coming and it was nice to see you guys finally win one.

On an aside, I had mentioned earlier in this thread about the lack of flags, and I gotta say that game was one of the more enjoyable football games I've watched in a loooonnnnnng time.

Those kids on both teams played their hearts out. They played hard and physical and the refs let them PLAY.

No phantom "illegal contact" or "holding" penalties just showing up all the dang time to extend drives or ruin good drives. Just good physical play and when they did call a penalty they seemed just and fair to both sides.

Just fun to watch and I wish the NFL was more like this.

That was it.

So, during the year, when I watch Buckeyes games I generally tune my phone or iPad to 97.1 (Paul Keels is a fantastic announcer) and I broadcast to a bluetooth speaker and mute the TV if the announcers aren't very good.  I would honestly pay ESPN money to be able to do that normally because it's a hassle and the radio/internet simulcast is about 10 or 15 seconds behind.  I actually enjoy Gus and Klatt on Fox but I'm generally not a fan of most of the ESPN team.

No doubt.  I started watching Justin Shaffer (Georgia left guard #54) because he was going crazy.  That guy was so physical and "played to the echo of the whistle"...and then some last night.  He was consistently hitting Bama players after the play was over and he even jumped on top of a pile way late on one.  Shaffer started that play by pancaking some Alabama dlineman and finished it with his belly flop on top of guys down the field.  Some of those were personal fouls in most games, but both teams were largely left unchecked by the officials last night.  Turned into a football game from the 80's.

Alabama

How does this keep happening? Two years after losing six first-round picks, a season after playing for another national title, the Crimson Tide will be loaded again in 2022. For starters, the Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Bryce Young and Nagurski Award-winning linebacker Will Anderson Jr. return. That's arguably the best offensive and defensive players in the country. A new tailback will have to emerge after the loss of Brian Robinson.

Ohio St.

The Rose Bowl served notice that two Heisman frontrunners behind Young might be C.J. Stroud and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The Buckeyes should be favored to win the Big Ten again, but to get to the next level, the defense needs a lot of work. The hiring of Jim Knowles from Oklahoma State was huge.

Georgia

The defending champion Dawgs will once again play crushing defense. They always do under Smart. Some of the faces will change. It will be interesting who replaces Stetson Bennett at quarterback. At least six starters should return on offense, including freshman All-American Brock Bowers.

4 

Oklahoma

The Brent Venables era begins. The Sooners will play (much?) better defense. They must considering the new coach. Dillon Gabriel is a plug-and-play quarterback. Expect more of the same from the Sooners with an added defensive edge. The Big 12 battle with Baylor will be fascinating.

5 

Texas A&M

The nation's top recruiting class gives the Aggies a tailwind heading into 2022. With true freshmen having more of an impact sooner, it will be fascinating to see who contributes. Aggies will be drooling over top QB signee Conner Weigman. There has to be a hint of disappointment after beating Alabama and winning only eight games. Now add Brian Kelly to the mix in the SEC West.

Baylor

After only two seasons, Dave Aranda has emerged as an elite coach. (Ask USC and LSU.) The defending Big 12 champions and Sugar Bowl champions should be Big 12 and maybe playoff contenders in 2022. By Oct. 1, the Bears will have played BYU, Iowa State and Oklahoma State.

Notre Dame

Marcus Freeman will kick things off in South Bend, Indiana, with a talented roster. The Fighting Irish have won at least 10 games five years in a row. Make it six with several super seniors likely to return. The addition of 2020 All-American Brandon Joseph from Northwestern is a huge get.

LSU

Ignore that fake-accent dude from Massachusetts in the corner. Kelly, the coach, is the real deal. If you told any program they could get the winningest coach in Notre Dame history, they'd take it in a heartbeat. Kelly has better access to the playoff in the SEC, but he'll have to work harder to get there.

9 

Clemson

The Tigers should be back in the hunt for a 10-win season (for the 12th straight year). Sorry, can't put Clemson in the playoff hunt just yet. There is too much uncertainty at quarterback, where D.J. Uiagalelei needs to prove himself, and across the coaching staff with two new coordinators.

Arkansas

Sam Pittman continues to overachieve in Fayetteville. The nine wins in 2021 were the most since 2011. That's also the last time before 2021 the Razorbacks scored at least 30 points in 5+ games. The offense is loaded with K.J. Jefferson, who had the most touchdown passes since Austin Allen in 2016. Cincinnati comes to Razorback Stadium to open the season. Wow.

11 

Michigan

With or without Jim Harbaugh, the Wolverines will be New Year's Six-worthy. No Aidan Hutchinson and no David Ojabo, but there's a reason J.J. McCarthy played a large part of the second half in the Orange Bowl. He'll be given every opportunity to unseat starter Cade McNamara.

12 

Miami (Fla.)

Mario Cristobal will have an immediate impact and an immediate quarterback. Cristobal called returning quarterback Tyler Van Dyke "the best quarterback in the country." Van Dyke threw for at least 300 yards and at least three touchdowns in the last four games. The Hurricanes will get tougher in both lines because that's what Cristobal does.

Utah

Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff says his league is undersized in both lines. That's not the case at Utah where the Utes specialize in playing bully ball. Ask Oregon. Kyle Whittingham has assembled seasons of at least nine wins in six of the last seven campaigns. A rare nonconference battle with Florida opens the season.

USC

Lincoln Riley needs a quarterback. That problem could be solved as soon as Caleb Williams makes up his mind. If not, Jaxon Dart is capable of leading the offense if he's pulled out of the transfer portal. Before anything happens, the Trojans have to get tougher up front. Watch Alex Grinch take another step as a defensive coordinator.

Tennessee

Josh Heupel assimilated quickly at UT. Seven wins looked like a bright light at the end of a tunnel. Hendon Hooker has Heisman hopes and a rocket arm that produced 31 touchdown passes. The defense must get better. Look at the schedule. Nine wins seems more than possible.

Texas

1.     The Longhorns will need an entire offseason to wash the taste of a loss to Kansas, as part of a 5-7 season, out of their mouths. Steve Sarkisian gets a five-star infusion at quarterback with Quinn Ewers. Xavier Worthy is a budding star at wide receiver. Only TCU and Kansas, though, gave up more yards. Is this any way to get ready for the SEC?

Wake Forest

At this moment, Sam Hartman hasn't declared for the NFL Draft. For now, that means the Demon Deacons aren't going anywhere. Dave Clawson has most of his impact players back from a 10-win team. As long as that stays the case, Wake will impact the ACC.

Oregon

Georgia in the season opener in Atlanta? Yes, please. Dan Lanning gets to measure himself as a head coach right away playing his old team. Cristobal has left a stocked cupboard. Watching a rookie coach from the SEC chase a Pac-12 title -- the Ducks may be favored -- will be fun to watch.

Wisconsin

The Badgers righted themselves nicely after a 1-3 start to win seven in a row. The offense must become more consistent under Graham Mertz, who threw more interceptions than touchdowns. The emergence of running back Braelon Allen (1,200 yards) should take some of the pressure off.

20 

Michigan St.

No Kenneth Walker III, but Mel Tucker has established himself as a master of the portal. Inspirational Payton Thorne will play behind an experienced offensive line.

21 

BYU

We're in the middle of one of the best runs in school history. Kalani Sitake is settling in as the guy to lead the Cougars into the big time in the Big 12. The team with the best record last season in the Pac-12 (5-0) plays Oregon, Stanford, Boise State, Baylor and Arkansas. Someone will have to step up for the productive Tyler Allgeier at running back.

22 

South Carolina

Shane Beamer defied expectations winning seven games in Year 1 of his regime. Insert Spencer Rattler from the transfer portal, and the Gamecocks will be a legitimate upset threat in several SEC games. Expect eight wins as the upward trajectory continues.

23 

Cincinnati

The losses are massive (Desmond Ridder, Jerome Ford, Ahmad Gardner, Coby Bryant for starters) but the Bearcats won't go from 13-1 to irrelevant. Luke Fickell is building the dominant program in, perhaps, two conferences. At least 25 players have graduated, gone to the NFL or transferred out.

Penn St.

Sean Clifford is back for a sixth season, which gives the Nittany Lions a chance. Look at it this way: If Clifford had not gone down against Iowa, Penn State might have won enough for James Franklin to be the new coach at USC. As it is, Franklin signed a 10-year, $75 million deal. Four of the five tacklers on the No. 6 scoring defense have departed. Call it a transition year. A return trip to Auburn in nonconference play won't help.

Okla. St.

The biggest loss didn't take a snap last year as Knowles, the star defensive coordinator, departed for Ohio State. That led Mike Gundy to lament his program's lack of funding. Had the offensive play-calling been better, the Cowboys would have beaten Baylor in the Big 12 Championship Game and advanced to the playoff. Quarterback Spencer Sanders isn't perfect, but he is experienced and back.

Has it been confirmed yet the extent of Jameson Williams' knee injury?  I assume it's an ACL after the replays....you could literally see a tendon snapping up almost like you see when an achilles tendon tears.   Sucks.
