2021 Las Vegas Raiders - PLAYOFFS!!!! (2 Viewers)

Jacobs obviously is bothered by a toe injury which is bad news for a RB, wouldn't be surprised if he ends up missing time at some point. Drake can pick up the slack so that $11 mil might be worth it.

The WRs not named Renfrow finally got involved with:30 left in the game. I'm not smart enough to figure out why it took them so long to get involved. I think it had to do with Carr force-feeding Waller for the 1st 3 quarters and the Raven's very good secondary.
Jacobs is hurt.  He needs time off.

The Raiders must start throwing the ball to the WRs or teams will bracket Waller and stop the passing attack in its tracks.   I know the Raiders lack talent at WR but this could be the year that Jones breaks out some.   Drafting Ruggs was a horrible decision but he is great at running downfield to open things up.

Great win.  I had multiple heart attacks.

Agree with lots of things already said.  They should never call another QB sneak with Carr.  It just doesn't work well.....ever.

NASSIB MADE A PLAY!  NASSIB MADE A PLAY!

Not really much surprising here. Ok one thing - Andrews fell about 200 yards and 2 TD short of my projection.

Defense was awful in spots.  But those spots are much smaller and they are surrounded by ... g ... I can't say it.  They were surrounded by some not awful spots. Ok some good spots.  One or two great spots.  I SAID IT - GREAT - DEAL WITH IT.

Huge progress.  Pass rush happened.  Ngakue is real and he's freed Maxx as a result.  Crobsy keeps growing as a player.  I read something this offseason about his metrics and they were pretty elite athletically, we're seeing that manifest on the field.  I thought he was kind of a nice effort guy that wasn't really elite but he's really breaking past being just a try-hard.  Hope that continues.

Hayward was a huge signing.  He was all over the place plus he put a liability on the bench - that's a double win.  Moehring was exactly what we wanted him to be - not overly involved because you don't want your last line of defense overly involved.  BAL didn't get it downfield so he didn't have any chances to show what he's got but that's just fine by me for now.  Arnette was a very good college player and I'm not convinced he's toast yet so I hope they find a role for him  or get him progressing.

The LB's are bad.  Kwiatkowski can't even get on the field over Perryman ffs and Littleton cost us that touchdown being badly out of position on the TD run and whiffed a number of other plays.  Wright had some nice plays but looked rusty at times too.

I love how the D was run.  It's a meritocracy and if you don't earn it you don't play and Gus don't give a crap about your draft status (Ferrel, Arnette, Muse), your contract (Kwiatkowski) or anything else other than your play on the field.  We're not there talent wise yet and benching/cutting the early draft picks won't be sustainable but for now it's progress and I'll take it.

Carr was Carr - took some terrible sacks and deathly afraid to throw to a WR but got away with it because of the massive animal Waller is.  If Carr would just get some balls he's got the tools to be elite, we know this from 2014, and he's got some other guys that can be weapons.  He's gotta get over whatever the block is.  Those final drives were money once he had to but we were lucky to get the chances we got.  Let's not be in that position next time?

Coaching was bad and I'm pretty much souring on Gruden.  Not having the PK ready to go on the field in OT?  C'mon that's high school level preparation.  At least they didn't try to rush the kick and botch it.  Dumb #### Urban Meyer did that against Penn State in 2016 in ####ty weather and it got blocked and returned for a TD.  As this was unwinding in front of me I was screaming at my dog to sprint out to Vegas and tackle the snapper.

Why the #### is Carr doing a hard count on the 2 inch line?  Nothing good for the O can happen there.  The  blame goes to Leatherwood but it never should have been in play at all.  Speaking of the rook he had a good game overall - high profile penalty and sack given up made for exaggerated optics but he's a mauler and did well overall.

Why the #### is Willie freaking Snead in the game in OT?  First of all why is he even on the roster, but why in the name of doggo is he in there?  And why must Carr throw a blazing fastball to him when he's 12 feet away?   Everyone is to blame for that one.  A fade to Edwards, a jump ball for Waller, if you're going to run the slant run it with a guy that belongs in the NFL.  That's partially on Gruden too.

I agree they should shut Jacobs down for a week or two if that is what it takes.  I'd rather have him healthy for the majority of the season than the next two games.

Gruden said Drake came into last night with a hamstring issue. Both backs looked a step slow to me. No bueno.

Carr needs to show some confidence in the kids, no doubt

Beat a darn good team in 1st game with fans in the stands at new stadium, and it was a great game, so I'm going to enjoy all week.

Basking is the only thing I'm doing this week.

I'll work on my Raider ulcer next week.

Still digesting it all.  The stadium is bad ###. The music guy needs to get on it. He didn’t play hells bells, until late in the game. Club is very nice. Drink and food delivered to your seat.(club section) when they turned the lights way down, it was aw3some.

Couple things that stood out:

they didn’t look ready. The focus was off.  worst example was the delay of game at the end. There was a fair amount of scrambling around with more plays than you want, where players don’t know wtf is going on.

As much as carr throws to Waller, the timing was off.  Constantly behind him. They need to fix that.

Jacobs balled out. He was limping all night.

Carr needs to embrace throwing to the wrs. JeeZ

defense was flying around. Any other qb, they get 3-4 sacks easy.

I have a man crush on Crosby  ❤️

Gruden is predictable. 🤪

they won. Stack those wins!  Next week is gonna be tough. Hope yannick can play.

@Chadstroma thx for the injury updates. It’s hard to tell what going on at the stadium.  It’ll be fun to watch the game, when i get home.

RRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIDDDDDDEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRSSSSSS!!

What a game... emotionally, a roller coaster with moments of "oh gawd, is it another year of this?" and "are we cursed?" to "Hell yea!"

My thoughts...

  • Granted... it is a was big game for Raider fans being basically the opener (with fans) for the new home city and stadium but Allegiant was packed and I didn't see a single Raven fan on tv. I remember naysayers saying about the move to Vegas that it would lose the Oakland feel. I always fought against that. My position was that Oakland fans would travel. LA fans would travel. Raider Nation scattered throughout the country would travel. And we would have new Vegas fans. Man... did they! That place was rocking. That place was loud. That place was all silver and black. The Death Star looks like it will FINALLY be a place that can help us get an edge. It is SOOOOOOOOOO nice to have a real NFL stadium that isn't falling apart, spewing sewage and has a baseball field for half the season. You could never get that much noise out of either Coliseum... Oakland or LA. That was really awesome to see... and I am pumped to go to the Dolphin game (assuming I can find my freaking vaccination card)
  • Offense will get better. I think you can see the lack of pre-season playing even if it would be a few snaps to get that rust shaken off. As the game went on you could see things getting more in line.
  • Defense.... HELL OF A LOT better. Whether a play was made or not, our guys were basically where they were suppose to be. I think it will only get better as the holdovers get use to the system even more and the late comers like Wright and Perryman get settled.
  • We started off hot and then lost that mo.... it took a bit to get back on track.
  • Waller, ok, we know he is a top 3 TE in the league- how you rank those top three is up to debate but he is special talent... but damn we shot ourselves trying to force it to him early. I don't know if that was scripted or if Carr just got locked in but yes, we need to use him but also we need to use the rest of the weapons to compliment him and actually help him get loose.
  • Jacobs is a concern. A toe injury can really linger and even as Waller may be the star player, the offense runs through Jacobs. We can run pass heavy if need be but the offense will be at it's best when Jacobs can be leaned on.
  • Drake didn't help on the ground but was useful in the passing game. So, we need Jacobs healthy.
  • Leatherwood held up. I only remember him getting beat once. He has two penalties, one of which could have been a game killer. He is a rookie and some of that is to be expected.
  • Good limping off scared the crap out of me. Simpson can play in place of Incognito but until he comes back we don't have anyone else I am comfortable with. Thankfully he came back.
  • Besides holding my breath for no injuries... James is my worry on the line. I am hoping this is a growing pain for him as I am pretty sure this was his first start. Some mental errors and some getting beat pretty badly happened. He is going to need to play better.
  • It took half the game for it to happen but Ruggs and Edwards stepped up. Renfrow did his thing but very good to see Ruggs and Edwards helping us march down the field. Both had over 20 yard averages.
  • That Snead play almost killed me. I don't care if Carr threw it a little hot, this is the NFL, you got to catch that. (this was the point where I asked myself "are we cursed?")
  • I have no idea what the DC's are seeing that they are blitzing like that at the end of the game but please keep seeing it (Jets last year and last night for the wins).
  • Overall, the offense clearly wasn't firing on all cylinders for really two reasons I think... not all on the same page yet being the first game and Jacobs not being as a threat as he normally is.
  • I can't remember the last year that when our defense took the field, I was just hoping we could force a field goal or maybe get lucky with a bad pass falling into our hands or something. This time, this game, even with Jackson back there that is super dangerous, I felt we had a shot to defend. We had that one really bad play on a 3rd or 4th that Williams busted out for the long TD. Other than that, the only real threat was Lamar's legs.
  • The combo of Mad Maxx and Yannick looks very potent. Mad Maxx had his 2 sacks (on track for 32 sacks this year!!  :D ), 9 QB pressures and 5 QB hits... oh and 6 tackles.... Mack who?  :D
  • If there was another QB in there.... Maxx would have had several more sacks, Yannick would have had a couple too and maybe an interior lineman. Not many QB's can deal with what he was given and come out without throwing the ball away, forcing a bad throw or getting sacked.
  • I am really excited for this D. I think I may have under sold it. If we stay healthy, I think we are looking at a team that can break into the top 10 best D's in the league. We have players on all three levels. DL, LB and DB and you can see that they know what they are doing.
  • We know Cle was a scratch. I don't see much explaining that now. He was dealing with a back injury but he did participate in practice but it looks like they just decided on Nassib over him. Surprising to say the least but Nassib did come up big with the sack.
  • Arnette played 1 snap. Robertson had no snaps.
  • Heavy DL rotation as expected. Hankins 68%, Jefferson 63%, Philon 50%, Thomas 22% and McCoy 13% before leaving. Worried about McCoy. That did not look good taking him off.
  • Plenty to clean up on but that isn't unusual for the first game of the season but you have to have your kicking team ready to go in that situation.
Overall, what an enjoyable win. Enjoy it Raider Nation. I am.

Great win last night, let's take a few days to enjoy it because next week they head to Pittsburgh, totally different ballgame.

A few thoughts:

The injuries to Good, Jacobs and Yannick are concerning.

Dline: Sadly, I didn't miss Ferrell. Solomon Thomas was invisible, and Jefferson was all over the place. Maxx will probably end up being Mayock's best draft pick, and the addition of Yannick on the other side finally FINALLY gives them a pass rush!

Oline: Calais Campbell was a very tough 1st assignment for James. He got beat a few times but if he can survive that, he'll be fine at center. Leatherwood allowed a sack and had the penalty at the end of the game, it was a rollercoaster of a debut, but the kid will be ok. Kolton Miller! No one is talking about him, but his name was not called all night, exactly what you want to see from your LT. I'm worried about the depth at guard, hopefully Good will be ok.

Abram looks like a different player, thank you Gus! The LBs were a mixed bag. I thought Perryman played well, KJ had one big play but he looked slow and out of shape out there. But I will say if they went into the season without those 2 additions, they'd probably be in trouble at LB.

Their kicking/punting game is money!

Overall great win, but they always start hot under Gruden. The true test of the Raiders will come when they need to win games like that in November and December. Let's bring that intensity to Pittsburgh next week! Go Raiders!!
Good came back in and seemed to be.... well.. good.

They freaking love Zay. And I think for the right reason. Carr talked about it how Zay has worked and worked and wanted to work more. He will be in the mix for sure. I think all except Snead (unless injury happens) will get their shots. We will do a fair amount of two and even three TE sets too.

Great win.  I had multiple heart attacks.

Agree with lots of things already said.  They should never call another QB sneak with Carr.  It just doesn't work well.....ever.
Tom Brady makes it work like clockwork but that being said.... James is a smaller Center and maybe not the best one to have to do those with.

Kwiat played about 25% of the snaps to give Perryman a breather. Perryman isn't a scrub. We got lucky in being able to get him. His issue has been health, otherwise, he is a good MLB that knows the system very well. Kwiat is a good all around LB but I think he is out of place in this defense. I don't expect him to be with us long but in other system, he will flourish. Overall, I didn't see the LB's being bad and I didn't see them out of position on that play but I would need to go back and look.

That dude is a warrior.

Obvious concern McCoy injury is significant but this is surprising.... Mariota has an injury that is feared to be significant as well. Both going through testing.
I thought I saw Mariota get up slowly holding his hand after that run. The poor guy can't catch a break. Losing Good hurts, hopefully Richie can get back out there. As much as it sucked seeing McCoy get hurt, I think the Dline will be ok. Jefferson was a beast, hopefully he can keep that up all season.

There were a fair amount of raven fans there.
is there any sort of tailgate there? man, i’m going to miss the oakland tailgates as i’d be there lined up and pre partying waiting for the gates to open. in fact the final year i went to 3 tailgates but only in to 1 game. :kicksrock:

You can reserve parking spots and tailgate via www.Spothero.com. There are 6K spots at the stadium and other spots surrounding the stadium. I saw a few people tailgating with tents and grills and coolers. FYI it was over 100 most of the day.

It will never be like the vast sea of tailgating parties at the Coliseum. I think they really want you to party at the various casinos and then walk over.

It was too f’ing hot. In the lot, right by the bridge, there were a few people set up, but it was nothing like Oakland.  Missing the tailgate, has been my biggest fear since they announced the move. We’ll see if it gets better, as it cools off.  I didn’t walk around to see if anything was happening in the other lots.  For all I know, it was going off.

Just saw a video on Youtube of Lot J - Russell Road side, not Hacienda had  a lot of tail gamers. But no, it is never going to be cool in September.

Raiders DE Clelin Ferrell likely to return to field in Week 2 following healthy scratch

One of the biggest storylines coming out of Week 1 was just how good the defensive line for the Raiders played against the Ravens. Defensive line coach Rod Marinelli had his unit flying all over the field, making Lamar Jackson feel uncomfortable all night.

However, one player that was noticeably absent from the lineup (and all the fun) was Clelin Ferrell. Just 90 minutes before kickoff, the team made him a healthy scratch. That is the first time Ferrell has been a healthy scratch during his NFL career.

After the game, head coach Jon Gruden did say that Ferrell was dealing with a back issue, but it wasn’t bad enough to cause him to miss any practice time leading up to the game. He did mention that Ferrell will likely see in the field in Week 2 when the team takes on the Steelers.

With Yannick Ngakoue dealing with a hamstring issue, it appears he will be unlikely to play this week. That means Ferrell could slide back into the starting lineup or split snaps with Carl Nassib.

It will be fascinating to see how the former No. 4 pick responds to being benched. Will he rise to the occasion and be the bookend to Maxx Crosby? Or will he be just a depth and rotational piece for the defense for the rest of the season? Week 2 is going to be a big stage for Ferrell.

How about that game?  Sorry I didn't get down there soon enough to grab a beer.  I was up towards the north end of the strip at the convention center and got out later than I was hoping and then it took a while to get down to the stadium.  Just ended up walking because Uber's were surging of course and it would have been as much of a walk to and from the monorail as it was to just walk down there.

It took me about an hour to get down there and I made it just after the game started.  Ended up getting a 300 level ticket on Stubhub for a little over $100.  Had Ravens fans in front of me, Raiders season ticket holders behind me and was next to 3 guys from the same convention that were a Colts fan, a Packers fan, and a guy from the UK that we were explaining the game to.

It was a great game and a really cool experience.  Our section was in one of the corners over by the torch so we were right over by Ice Cube too.  What was also crazy was ~70,000 Raiders fans dumping out onto the strip all at the same time and the wave that swept over casinos as I walked back north from the stadium, was pretty fun especially after a win like that.  Hope you guys had a great time at the game!

I took the monorail from Excal to MB and it looked like they closed off a big lot between Luxor and MB and put up a huge screen and stands and tables for a tailgate party type thing.  They covered the side of the pyramid facing it with a huge Raiders banner.

I think the combination of everyone wearing all black, 100+ temps, barely any clouds in what is basically a dry desert environment is going to be tough on tailgating early in the season.  Should be great late in the season and when you guys get to host a Superbowl.

Sunday the Seattle Seahawks opened the 2021 season with a 28-16 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. Then on Monday the Las Vegas Raiders opened their season with an absolutely bonkers Week 1 overtime win against the Baltimore Ravens.

However, in the course of playing the Ravens, the Raiders lost starting guard Denzelle Good to a knee injury that will keep him out for the remainder of the season. In order to address their sudden lack of depth on the interior of the offensive line, Las Vegas looked to the Seattle practice squad.

The Raiders were already without starting guard Richie Incognito prior to Good's injury, and poaching Simmons puts him back where he was before landing with the Seahawks. Originally signing with the then Oakland Raiders out of USC, Simmons was waived at the end of training camp in 2018, only to be claimed by Seattle where he wound up filling a key depth role in recent seasons

Raiders added DT Damion Square as well. Square has been in the league since 2013 and played under defensive coordinator Gus Bradley with the Chargers as a rotational defensive lineman. Simmons made 6 starts for the Seahawks last year. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix hasn't played a game since 2019.-Per Tashan Reed on Twitter.

So Good and McCoy are out for the year. It looks like Yannick avoided a major injury but might still miss next week. I think it'd be best to rest him and avoid re-injury.  Glad Simmons at least has some recent starting experience. Yannick is the hardest to replace out of the Three.

for those going to games in the future.  i would stay at delano or mandalay bay.  closest and nicest.  luxor and excalibur are also very close but ain't that nice.  i stayed at the MGM.  mediocre hotel, very easy walk back.  we too, took the monorail on our way back.  we took a cab to the game because it was 104.

What are your thoughts about staying off the strip on Fremont? I haven't been to Vegas in awhile. Wouldn't it be just quick uber ride to Allegiant?

Hope you guys had a great time at the game!
a $100 ticket on stubhub for opening night is awesome, i was debating trying for something like that later in the year but was not stoked on the current prices

In the Las Vegas Raiders' estimated injury report from Wednesday's walkthrough, guard Richie Incognito (calf), running back Josh Jacobs (toe/ankle), linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski (concussion), quarterback Marcus Mariota (quad) and defensive end Carl Nassib (pectoral/toe) did not participate. Defensive end Yannick Ngakoue (hamstring) was limited. Guard Denzelle Good (knee) was placed on injured reserve.

The Las Vegas Raiders signed guard Jordan Simmons off Seattle's practice squad.

Yannick being "limited" in practice is a huge win. With him and Nassib banged up and possibly out this week, Cle will get a full game worth of snaps.

Derek Carr ignites Raiders-Steelers rivalry, says Immaculate Reception ball 'touched the ground'

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is feeling pretty good about the team's walk-off win in Week 1. Carr decided to channel his confidence into some elite trash talk Wednesday, implying one of the most well-known plays in NFL history is actually a lie.

With the Raiders set to play the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2, you know Carr was talking about the Immaculate Reception. Carr's official stance on the matter is that the play shouldn't have counted.

If you really want to dig into Carr's claim ... we could be here all day. Debates over whether the tip of the football touched the ground before Franco Harris snagged it and ran it in for a game-winning touchdown have existed since the play occurred in 1972.

With 22 seconds left in the game, Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw threw up a fourth-down pass that bounced off John Fuqua and was miraculously caught by Harris, who scored the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds.

Camera angles of the play don't clearly show whether the ball touched the ground, as Carr claims.

If you don't know the repercussions of that play, well, they were huge. Harris' touchdown eliminated the Raiders from the playoffs. The Steelers moved on to the AFC Championship, where they lost to the Miami Dolphins.

The Immaculate Reception is viewed as a turning point for the Steelers' franchise, which had struggled mightily for four decades before the win over the Raiders. The team's went on to win four Super Bowl titles in the 1970s.

Derek Carr kickstarts rivalry with Steelers fans

Carr's trash talk is unlikely to rile up any current Steelers players. Ben Roethlisberger wasn't even alive when the Immaculate Reception occurred.

It should rile up Steelers fans who look back fondly on the play. And it lets Raiders fans know Carr has their back.

Other than that, you can't expect Carr's comments to have an impact on the matchup. He's merely building hype for the game, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Probably. But I’m no Vegas insider. This was the first time in 18 years, that I’ve been to Vegas. We took 2 cab rides from the hotel. Cabs are cheap and instantly available out front. Way easier than uber. We ubered back from dinner. Normal process.

They change various  roads to be one way and closed the hacienda st bridge over the fwy on game day.  It seemed like a giant pia to drive to the stadium. We had the cab drop us at Mandalay Bay and walked over the bridge.

Thanks.

I will be at the Vdara through the weekend for my convention at Bellagio. I am trying to decide on getting another night thereor moving closer for Sunday night to fly out Monday. I am fine with not as nice as it will be one night that I don't plan in doing much but crashing a few hours but if the $ difference isn't much then of course stay at a nicer place. I don't know the hotels very well other than the Bellagio and the dump I stayed in a couple of years back... back when I went to Vegas some the Luxor was new.  🤣
