2021 New York football Giants (1 Viewer)

Yeah it's T-Mobile time in New York! WOOOOOO!!!

(Ironically, the Giants made this move after I switched from T-Mobile to Ting)

Of all the guys mentioned as possible QB’s for the Giants this offseason (Trubisky, Mariotta etc.) Taylor was my favorite option.

Taylor is an experienced guy who is mobile and competent. He isn’t a turnover machine.

The Giants shouldn’t have to change their offense much (whatever that may be under Daboll) if/when Jones gets hurt.
He cost more than Trubisky? I hate it !

Both are capable backups but Trubisky has a very high ceiling. Taylor is what he is ...  a backup on a bad team.

If Jones gets injured .. I'd rather lose then win an extra game or 2  with Taylor and go 7-10, 8-9,  miss the playoffs and and get a mid 1st rd draft pick.

Give me Trubisky's upside or Glennon's gauranteed losses and save a few $Million

This signing makes zero sense for a cap strapped team that is in (or should be) rebuild mode.

A "expensive" veteran backup QB is a luxury for a good team.

It occurs to me that they might either cut or send Jones to another team.

When the 49ers deal JimmyG, they’ll need a backup. So will many teams.

Or maybe this is just the new coach putting his stamp on the team & bringing in a QB he wants I coach.

Any way you read the tea leaves, Danny 41.59 Naira’s time appears to be short in NY.

I was going to say the same thing.  Someone mentioned that this is reminiscent of something Gettleman would do.  I agree.

Why would they cut Jones on his cheap rookie contract?

Duggan: Tyrod contract details part 1

Duggan : Tyrod contract details part 2

Tyrod Taylor contract details with the Giants, per source: 2 years, $11M (additional $6M available in incentives). $10.9M guaranteed: $4.2M signing bonus, 2022 salary ($1.25M), 2023 salary ($5.45M). There’s a void year to reduce the cap charges.

2022: $2.7M cap ($1.25M salary, $1.4M SB, $50K workout bonus).

2023: $6.9M cap ($5.45M salary, $1.4M SB, $50K workout bonus).

2024: $1.4M cap (dead money from void).

**********

Only $2.7 in cap this upcoming year.  His second year is insurance if Jones doesn't work out.    I'm ok with this.

IMO Taylor isn't a future starter to replace Jones if Jones sucks.  If Jones sucks, I'd rather the Giants lose a lot and get a top pick next year to get a QB.  Taylor isn't a player the Giants should have gone after IMO.  He's probably just good enough to ruin getting a top pick next year, if Jones got injured or simply lost the job, but he's not good enough to be an actual replacement for Jones.  Strategically, I don't think Taylor is a good fit for a rebuilding team that's just starting the rebuild and is very strapped for cap space.

They obviously needed an upgrade over the embarrassing play from Glennon/Fromm last year but I'd rather see them use one of their 3rd round picks on a developmental QB if someone interesting falls to them there or go after a cheaper mid range backup instead of Taylor.

Raanan : Giants signing Ricky Seals-Jones

The Giants are signing TE Ricky Seals-Jones, per source. The opportunity to play a big role gets him to jump from Washington to New York. Seals-Jones had 30 catches for 271 yards and 2 TDs last season for Washington.

*****

don't know the #'s yet but clearly a need as all we have at TE  is Myarick.    Myarick did have more TDs than Kenny G and Toney combined,  i don't think we have that going for us.

Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures.

Myarick showed some horrible hands last season and he is the only TE on the roster

yeah, good luck with that

Tyrod and Daboll is a match made in heaven

a running QB who won't throw the ball with a pass heavy coach who has no idea how to create a running game

Giants released Logan Ryan.

edit:

Ralph Vacchiano
Final answer on this (probably): Giants clear $775,000 in cap space by cutting Logan Ryan, per multiple sources. It was not a cost-cutting move.

(I know there are reports that say it's more and there is confusion over his guaranteed money. But this is my final answer for now).

Can he block? Big target in the red-zone with Kenny. He's right in that he'll have an opportunity.

Dan Duggan

@DDuggan21
DE Jihad Ward contract details with the Giants, per source: 1 year, $1.2M with $352K guaranteed.

Should be used to seeing these terms by now. It’s another Veteran Salary Benefit contract so it will only count $1M on the cap.

Do Giants fans remember what the RZ is? Gotta get there to use em. 😏

It’s gonna be an ugly year for the Giants what with 40M cap slashing. Then as a special bonus fans likely get to watch Barkley go elsewhere while management decides if Danny Dimes is still the QB.

2023 ~> could be the start of a nice era for Big Blue.  I believe in the coaching & management they brought in, and if they’re targeting a 2023 QB, they’re picking a good draft to do it in.

Who are the 2023 QBs?

my take pre-draft.  we will move back with either #5 or #7 to get another 1st round pick in 2023.   2023 draft will be the QB pick.     cj stroud.      that likely bonus of Barkley moving...we haven't won more than 6 games with him in 4 years.    touched by the hand of god, lol.

It’s true, but it’s also kinda sad. Dude was so special that one magical year he was vertical. What could have been.

he had Eli calling protections for him his rookie year.   the line has been bad for years.   he dances too much and can't block.   got hurt.     bad situation for him after his rookie year.

I disagree with this ... Barkley was unbelievable his rookie season and Jones is a decent to good QB. This Oline over the past 3 years is the worst Ive ever seen. And the Offensive paly calling under Judge was the worst Ive ever seen. Barkley and Jones are both getting a raw deal

Totally agree. This is a rebuild, every move made so far suggests that. Four wins this season is probable. Can't disagree on Barkley and Danny Dimes opinion. But after the Gettleman/Judge disaster I at least have the feeling there is a PLAN. A blueprint to get out of this funk within a few years.

When do teams have to decide on picking up a players 5th year option?

I assume the Giants are not going to pick Jones' option but they might pick up Lawrence's

according to that link Jones would be $22.4mm and Lawrence would be $10.8mm
At that price, I can see them picking up the option on Lawrence.

Here are some free agent signings this off season at his position:

BJ Hill - Cincy - 3 years 30 million

Sebastian Josheph-Day - Chargers - 3 years 24 million

DJ Jones - Broncos - 3 years 30 million

Breaking: FA Guard Max Garcia has agreed to terms on a 1-year deal with the #Giants, per source. Garcia previously started 11 games with the #Cardinals last season. Nice add for the GMen.

The #AZCardinals are expected to sign former #Giants G Will Hernandez, source says. The 2018 second-round pick reunites with Cards OL coach Sean Kugler, his college line coach.

I imagine he costs less than Hernandez ... PFF had Hernandez ranked 60 and Garcia ranked 66 of all guards.

Looks like the Giants are replacing one bad guard with another bad (and older) guard

Here are their overall PFF grades from last year. Max 56.3 - Will 55.9

Giants sign Nigerian OT

"EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Giants today signed one of their most intriguing, noteworthy and unforeseen prospects of this or any offseason.

Roy Mbaeteka is a 6-9, 320-pound offensive tackle who has no high school or college football experience. That's hardly surprising, considering he's lived his entire life in Nigeria. His nascent football career has also included stops in London and Arizona. Now he's heading to the Quest Diagnostics Training Center, where the Giants believe he can develop into an NFL-caliber lineman.

So does one of Mbaeteka's mentors, former Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora, who lived in Nigeria as a youngster and was perhaps the first to spot the 22-year-old's talent......"

A move like this worked out for the Eagle's and Jordan Mailata. No harm for the Giant's in taking a chance on him. A lot of it will depend on how good the Giant's coaches are in coaching him up.
