2021 PGA Tour - (1 Viewer)

Here is my take on the Bryson-Koepka "feud". It started out as a real thing with Koepka complaining publicly about Bryson's slow play. Bryson confronted Koepka's caddie telling him to have his boss say something to his face if he had a problem. So the two guys talk and the beef is squelched. Then the tour comes out with that wacky $40M fund for player popularity. So Brooks and Bryson decide to rekindle the beef and play it up on social media as to get their share of that dough. Brooks even goes the extra mile and does the phenomenal eye roll as Bryson walks by a few weeks ago. What Bryson didn't count on was the Barstool meatheads coming to life in support oft their bro Brooksie and verbally accosting Bryson on course & in person. Now he's crying to the PGA saying they need to control the galleries. I think if you decide to bring the WWF into the PGA then you have to sleep in the bed that you made. Only a matter of time until someone Noonan's him during a vital moment of a major tournament and it's going to be some delicious karma.

From what I understand about Rahm situation.

Not vaccinated.

Came in close contact, was given the option to play but had to test every day.

Other tests came back negative. Today's was positive.  They tested sample again, that was not known until 6pm also positive

On further review...

Turns out Rahm was only being tested because he hadn't been vaxxed.

But under tour protocols that align with CDC guidelines, players who are fully vaccinated are no longer subject to weekly testing; Levinson also said that vaccinated players would not be subject to the contact tracing that Rahm was part of this week.
So, whatever.  Bad luck no doubt, but he made his choices.

Bummer for him. PGA said he wouldn’t even had been in the protocol if he had an exposure while vaccinated. Made a bad bet, came up craps. Put his caddie and playing partners at risk at a minimum. Obviously the timing is horrible but what you gonna do? I have a feeling this situation will be one of those rorsharch tests.

I know I wouldn’t be too happy if I was in his group and knew nothing about it. Oh you had an exposure, no vaccination and we out here rubbing elbows for five hours?!?

The reactions to this is what's perplexing.  People and the news in general are like, you won't believe this, it's awful, sad, etc.

Hello, the guy still hadn't got a vax yet?  What was he thinking?  That's on him 100%, especially at this stage of the game.  He was shocked and devastated.  Why, was this not a possible outcome?  Did somebody else roll the dice for him?

Had it been Patrick Reed instead, I'm guessing not the same amount of sympathy goes round here.

Hopefully his bank account recovers from this "tragic" event.

I'm thinking that there's a strong correlation between people who refuse to be vaccinated, and people who would be shocked to find out that they tested positive.

@JasonSobelTAN: From what I'm now hearing, Jon Rahm just this week received his first vaccination shot on-site at Muirfield Village, but only after he'd come in close contact with a person who had tested positive, which is why he was initially entered into the COVID protocol.

This shows again that major American sports are following protocol.
question I have seen raised is ... why can't Rahm go off last by himself and carry his own bag?

Answer is that's not the protocol.  He has to self isolate for 10 days per Tour. no idea how you travel from Muirfield to Torrey Pines while self isolating.

He was thinking if I get the vax, there's a (very small) chance I have a reaction and don't get paid this week. Then I have to wait 3 weeks and repeat.(unless it's J&J which has a slightly higher rate). He's 25 and healthy with a very small chance of serious health issues.  Yes, he rolled the dice and lost.

And he's not alone.

@JasonSobelTAN: Just spoke with a tournament official from an event that was contested within the past two months. During that week, the official had a small gathering with players and asked how many were vaccinated. The answer? “None. It just wasn’t part of their calculus.”

Ok I'm all in on him, already a big fan of the (wife now?)
A bit torn here.

Bryson is pretty insufferable but this isn’t a good way to handle this. There’s now going to be a bunch of bros yelling so they can get on Twitter for some free Michelob Ultra.

I just don’t get how ones responsibility to others doesn’t factor in. Guess I never will.

Meanwhile great start to this final round...pulling for Scheffler to take another step towards being a star.

The problem is that "PGA protocol" is out of date. Quarantine might have made sense a year ago when no one was vaccinated, sanitizer was scarce, and we didn't have as much evidence about A) outdoor transmission, B) mask effectiveness, and C) infectiousness of asymptomatic people.

But at this point we can be reasonably sure that Rahm presents almost zero risk to society. (And we can also be reasonably sure that the PGA realizes this, otherwise they would have pulled him off the course the moment he tested positive.)

There was no logical reason to prohibit Rahm from playing today.

you don't see that every day
You don’t and I think it’s because most players wouldn’t have been as aggressive with that flop try. I remember vividly seeing Norman do it at a PGA I worked at in ‘84...Morikawa has some of that fearlessness in him.

Hold up.  I mean, we are in June, right?  He's had how long to figure out this little pandemic?  I actually really liked Rahm but this was totally avoidable and there isn't any excuse that flies without ignorance and arrogance involved.

Somehow, a few other PGA golfers figured out how to handle their business by now.

Watching a national championship being played at Olympic CC. Leader (#usausausa) has five shot lead. Sunday golf couch nap in 3…2…1…

Nothing against the guy but is there any Cantlay fans? Guy has the charisma of a potted plant. Not a flashy plant either, maybe a fern.
