2022-23 NBA Thread: “you’ll never let me down like the Heat did”, Miami fan says to giant pile of cocaine (4 Viewers)

Booker has had a poor man’s Kobe vibe for me for a while. He can get on some absolute filthy runs scoring. So freaking smooth at times.

Book + KD amount to 71% of PHX's scoring.

And props to Joker to for an absolutely ridiculous final line (on efficient shooting this time too).

Celtics should have won by 20+ tonight. Dominated the game in a lot of ways, but some carelessness with the ball made it way too close. Needed some big 3s in the end and some 76ers misses to finish the job.

Just watched the 2nd half of PHX/DEN. I think Denver is very tough. Booker went off and KD got his and they still took it down to the final minute. Jokic/Murray/Gordon/Porter are very tough to handle right now. Not sure KD & Booker can win the series with CP3 out and Ayton a no-show.

Great game tonight. Crowd was great and rightfully all over Ayton.

Kudos to Monty for going with Jock over Ayton. Such a noticeable difference in energy and effort.

Stunning TJ Warren got so much time. Had to look after the game when the last time he had any significant run. Gave some needed minutes but looked like a guy that'd only played 5 minutes over the past month

I'd be stunned if the Suns won this series. Nuggets baskets come so much easier for them and in the flow of an offense. I don't think the Suns can iso-ball to a series win.

I was bummed out you took the Boston Teadaster Party subtitle down way too soon. That needed to be up there longer after seeing that "how great Boston is in sports" thread for YEARS.

That being said, this one is pretty ****ing funny. 4.25 stars.

Love,
Mookie Betts and Tom Brady (who ran like hell, given the chance/choice)

The discussion about late game shot selection reminded me of when my son used to play. He loved Kobe and practiced shooting fadeaway jump shots over and over again. Since he was tall (he ended up almost 6'6"), he was generally considered an interior player and not an outside shooter. His AAU coach was not a fan of him taking outside shots in practice (even on his own time), and he told him he better not take shots like that in games, or he would find himself watching from the bench. (His logic was they had tons of outside shooting guards and not many tall kids, so they needed him under the basket.)

They made it to the finals of their next tournament, and they had to inbound the ball on the offensive end under the basket, down by 2 points with 1.8 seconds in the game. They called timeout and drew up a play for him to come off a double screen and cut down the lane and catch a lob for what should have been an easy lay in to go to OT. He was specifically told not to ad lib and try a crazy fadeaway three to win the game. The play did not go off as designed, as the in bounder threw the ball in way too early and just as he came around the screen behind the 3-point line (the pass was supposed to go to him AFTER he came down the lane and right in front of the basket, not at the top of the key at the 3-point line).

The pass was high and wide, and he wasn't expecting it then. Instead of cutting down the lane, he had to go after the pass which ended up well behind the three-point line and carried his momentum toward the sideline. By the time he gathered in the pass and took a step toward the sideline, there was no time left . . . so he threw up a fall away, turnaround 3-point attempt at the buzzer off the wrong foot that fell in for the win. His teammates went crazy and mobbed him. The parents went crazy and mobbed him. The refs and coaches from the other team tipped their hat for draining a really tough shot. But his head coach? Not impressed. He got in a shouting match with our son after the game still on the court . . . and he got benched the next game for doing the complete opposite of what the coach told him to do. To everyone else, it was clear he didn't have any other options, and the coach insisted he did it all intentionally. (Postscript, we ended up moving him to a different AAU team.)
AAU is about player development.

I find this to be the complete opposite.

I hope so much that Harden goes back to Houston this off-season. i can not fathom how we saw the Harden in game 1, to what we have seen in games 2 and 3.
Do they have any cap room if he leaves though? That would be a pretty big setback for the Sixers unless they can work a sign and trade to get something back for him.

It makes you wonder what the 76ers are going to do and what Embiid might do. He is 29 and has trouble staying healthy. You can tell he wants to win badly.
They could always tank for four or five years and collect high picks and build a super team that way.

A nice, but fortunate win by the Suns last night. Booker and KD needed to have an aggressive scoring mentality for the entire game—and they certainly did. With that said—I can’t help but think that they were fortunate to win last nights game—much the same way that Denver was fortunate to win game 2. Booker goes for 47 points from 80% shooting from the field, KD drops 39 more, the Suns play a very clean game—only 9 turnovers, and TJ Warren hits two very fortunate shots towards the end of the game—-and they barely pull off a win at home. On top of that—one thing that went hugely unmentioned—is that Jamal Murray from about the 4 minute mark of the third quarter to the end of the game went 1 for 10 from the field. Without Paul—it’s going to take these types of insane games by Booker/KD and the Suns to barely compete. I personally can’t see that being sustainable for the next 4 games—but I do have to give the Suns credit. They needed to win and they found a way to do so. Kudos to them—and kudos to the series at least getting a bit more interesting.

Too soon

I didn't think Denver would win last night, but I think game four will be a different story. KD and Book are going to get their's, but all it will take is one of them to have a good shooting night (say 25 points) and it is over for PHO. I haven't watched a lot of their games, but I never realized how shallow that team is. If they had any kind of bench, they would be really, really good.

I think the sixers need to blow the whole thing up. But they wont.

That's what happens when you trade for KD.

It'll be interesting to see what they do next year to shore up the rest of the team. They have so much money tied up in their top 4 it really limits what they can do. CP3 is only half guaranteed next year and Payne is non-guaranteed but they're so far over the cap that dumping that salary gets them nowhere. They're probably going to have to run it back (outside of things like the mid-level or whatever and I have no idea how that stuff works) and hope they can somehow package some crap to get a good role player from someone? With very few tradeable draft picks to send along as well. They're kinda stuck.

Chris is really showing his age this year. He probably won't be willing, but he might be most effectively used off the bench next year. He looks cooked.

I agree, but it is difficult to do when you have an all NBA player and continue to be a top 5ish regular season team. It is very difficult to get all NBA players.

The real problem is they have no flexibility. I think if they did some good players would want to come and play with Embiid.

Knicks just confuse the hell out of me. They looked so good in the regular season and in the first round of the playoffs and if it wasn't for Jimmy Butler missing game 2 they are likely going down 3 - 0 right now.

The Zombie Heat are hard to beat for anyone right now

10 years after the process began. We're are exactly where we were. 2nd round exit to Boston. Don't know why I ever got my hopes up. :kicksrock:
It’s only 2-1.
You honestly think we're coming back in this the way they're playing?
If you're feeling down about everything, all I can say is.....remember you're playing the Celtics.

The kings of chucking up 3s even when they aren't dropping, and choking away big leads. Sixers will always be in it until the fat lady sings.
And yet of all the teams. Celtics have our number. Don't get me wrong, I hope I'm wrong. Just feels inevitable.

Everybody has your number. Philly hasn't won a championship in over 40 years.
How dare you. As if the blazers ever beat the sixers in the playoffs…

Isn't this exactly what teams coached by Thibs do? He coaches most games like it's game 7 and, as a result, his teams over perform in the regular season. Then the playoffs hit and he doesn't have many more buttons to push and most of the league has already adjusted to his adjustments by the time the postseason rolls around. Leaving you to wonder what's happening when the writing has been on the wall all season long.

Give credit to the Knicks for a good regular season and an excellent first round win vs Cleveland. The organization hit on a major offseason addition and some growth from their bench players. Expecting anything more this season seems like wishful thinking.

PS - (edit) The owner is a real piece of work. He only managed to really make the news due to banning "enemies" via face recognition software at the Garden this season. Sadly, that's better than some seasons.

Not my owner. I don't root for the Knicks and Dolan seems like a scumbag. They had a feel to them this season though, and with the Heat winning the first series things seem to open up for them to make a run to the conference finals or maybe finals.

I seen an overachieving season like the Mavs last year or the Hawks the year before.

Process 2.0. Yeah I know

Just watched the last minute of the first half where the Warriors gave up 4 pts on the final possession with a defensive 3 seconds, a bench T and a nice drive by AD. They referenced a T on Draymond and some take fouls earlier. Sounds like fun.

The thread title was about me :lmao: I had like 25 posts about Poole.
