Last year Zach Lowe mentioned some ideas the owners had been workshopping prompted by the Ben Simmons situation. I don’t recall the specifics, and highly doubt they’ll be able to eliminate this kind of behavior. But you are nuts, IMO, if you think the owners will just throw up their hands and roll over on this.

You are nuts if you think the players will sign on with HUGE concessions from the owners.  And even then, it will come down to agents/owners/players not finding loopholes to circumvent it.  This is a self control problem.

Good thing I didn’t say that the players would sign off on it or that it would successfully stop this behavior, then. Nevertheless, it will be a contentious part of the CBA negotiations.

The tricky part in this situation is how would you legislate against a player simply requesting a trade. Durant hasn’t sat out any games at this point to punish him for.

You have ESPN's Bobby Marks talking about Raptors giving Barnes for KD, Zion for KD . KD simply has to say "I'm not going to Toronto/New Orleans" and he's not going to Toronto/New Orleans. These smaller market teams aren't giving away franchise players for a vet that doesn't want to be there.

I’ve heard people raving about the four years left on his contract like that is the most valuable commodity in league history. The Nets on the same contract had him signed for five years and got one season out of it. There is no guarantee that KD’s new team will have him for four years. He could demand a trade again this time next year if things don’t go according to plan.
