2022-23 NBA Thread: “you’ll never let me down like the Heat did”, Miami fan says to giant pile of cocaine (1 Viewer)

I'm not stupid and I know why the Lakers are on TV tonight, but my goodness has the league ever continually featured a worse NBA team all season long? They have the 7th worst record in the entire NBA and are 2.5 games out of the play-in tournament right now. AD & LeBron are all-time great players but the Lakers as a team this year are not good and LeBron is questionable to even play. How far ahead are the decisions made on who gets the prime time TV games?
Maybe they could cover the C's some more
Impressive effort by the Celts tonight. Bucks really laying an egg.
Looks like they'll get the W and cut Boston's lead to .5 games.

I was unable to watch the game tonight and was shocked it was still on when I checked for the score. I didn't even bother to record it because I assumed Milwaukee was gonna win it.
If both these teams are healthy in May, it's got the makings of an absolutely epic series.
I dunno. Boston's 5-13 players last night just gave Milwaukee's top 9 all they could handle :hophead:
Huh. Interesting narrative

I'll never ever understand them not dealing Derozan. Get some picks and potentially a young player. The Vuc deal is sunk cost. They've got the 7th worst record in the league right now and have lost 5 straight.

DeRozan is making 27 million this year. And 29 million next year guaranteed. So there needs to be salary matching.

He's a limited defender who is ball dominant and does not offer even average floor spacing nor "gravity" in his play style. His best fit is on the fully healthy Bulls, ironic enough, assuming they keep that roster together and don't dismantle in the offseason.

Will an elite mid ranger shooter help a team in the playoffs? For that alone, Yes, since that's a shot that opens up when teams shift their play style into more conservative playoff basketball. However the lack of pure 3 And D value is a net negative overall. The Lakers were criticized heavily for not trading for him, but lots of teams didn't want to trade for him earlier before he was a Bull. San Antonio was looking to dump him almost immediately after they got him and struggled to find takers.

He does have some clutch moments, I'll give him that. But he's not an elite scorer to the degree that he offsets all of his tradeoffs. He can do well with guys like Alex Caruso and Lonzo Ball ( if he ever plays again) who are plus defenders, who have some floor spacing acumen, who can move off the ball and contribute off the ball.

Where DeRozan starts to fit is if someone dumps a bad contract with a pick. Which might be feasible if he was an expiring. And if more teams had picks, but so many teams have traded off so many picks and the select teams with a bundle of picks are not in a position to want a guy like DeRozan.

The Miami Heat is the best practical fit given the situation. They are a tough gritty defensive oriented team without a true offensive closer. However to make that deal, the Bulls would have to take Duncan Robinson. And there lies the real road block.

Reading deeply between the lines, I think they’ll keep DeRozan, re-sign Vucevic and trade LaVine this offseason. The organization seems frustrated with Zach and vice versa.

It seems like Karnisovas is anti full rebuilds. But, obviously, changes need to be made. That’s gonna be hard without picks or cap space.

I agree with you on LaVine. I don't think anyone in the organization will be sad to see him go at this point. I think return on DeRozan IMO will be comparable (given his $$ and he's the better player right now).....but he's also a soon-to-be 34 year old on one of the worst teams in league. No one expected what he's given the Bulls the past 2 seasons. I haven't thought a player was as much as a sell since Kyrie and the Celts. [It's not that I'm high on Lavine as much as it's undeniably was the time to cash in on Derozan]

Not that they're stuck with Lavine.....but he's not worth anywhere near what he's making and the return IMO will be comparable (or less) than what they'd have gotten for Derozan. I also don't believe it's a "deal one or the other" situation (could deal both). I just think you deal the 33 year old -- on an awful team-- playing maybe the best 1.5 years individually in his career ASAP/NOW/Sell High.

They can play Pat Williams-Ayo-Dalen Terry and be the 7th worst team in the league. W/o Lonzo, this team is/was doomed. They're a completely different team w/o him. It's been 105 regular season games since Lonzo last played and they're 50-55. Large enough sample size for someone in the organization to realize "Hey we're not going anywhere as constructed". You can't keep with the mindset that Lonzo is ever coming back at this point.

I think the Bulls are letting past deals (Vuc) dictate what they're doing now. Whereas Brooklyn didn't and they've reloaded with picks AND players.

amazing that they might give Orlando two straight top-10 picks for Vuc, but trading Lavine should probably net 4 firsts, for whatever that's worth. Maybe Toronto would be interested if they are keeping everyone and especially if they move on from Van Vleet.

Yes, the Bulls should’ve been sellers. Karnisovas explained the lack of action at the deadline by stating it was a seller’s market and they wanted to be buyers. With this losing streak immediately afterwards, those words are going to come back to haunt him.

Bulls really aren’t that bad. Their points differential is only - 0.1. They’ve just been bad in close games and have blown a number of large leads in meltdown fashion. Well, maybe that makes them bad. 😝

Is Kawhi back to full strength?

This article seems to think so. It would sure make the West playoffs more exciting. I even would enjoy seeing the Lakers make their way through the play-in tourney. Imagine if all of these teams have all of their top guys healthy; the Suns, Mavs, Nuggets, Grizzlies, Warriors, Lakers, Pelicans & Clippers? Oh, and the Kings are leading the league in scoring and sitting at the 3 seed and the T-Wolves have hung around and are currently #6.

I think we end up with those 10 teams in some order....likely somewhat shuffled from where it sits now. I think the Jazz, Blazers and Thunder all fall short of the 10 spot, but an injury to the aforementioned teams could slide one of them in to the play-in tourney.

I'd really like to see all of the top tier players stay healthy so these teams can take their best shots at one another in the playoffs. The East will be good once we get to the 2nd round, but I don't see anyone challenging the top 4 teams there very seriously. In the West we could legit see two of the top 4 seeds lose in the first round.

I don’t think it’s going to happen for the Lakers. They are still “load managing” LeBron but their margin for error is gone. Their schedule coming back from the break is tough - they might be done by middle of March

the elephant in the room is that Lebron seems to have a hard time attracting other all stars to play with him.

Davis is playing great, Russell has breathed some life into them and they are still trying to figure out starters and rotations. If they can get LeBron on the floor for 80% of their remaining games, I think they make the play-in tournament and should have their team figured out by then.

ETA: And I'm no Lakers/LeBron fan. I just think they are good enough to get it done.

Huh. Interesting narrative
:lmao:

That’s a stretch. Boston was literally missing their 4 best players from the game. In that other game Giannis and Middleton weren’t playing but neither was Jaylen Brown.

Yeah, inaccurate comparison, for sure

it was a worthless talking point to begin with. Extrapolating a meaningless regular season game is dumb but especially dumb when players are missing. The C’s keeping that game close means jack ****.

Yes the Nets are back to the pack of irrelevance but man do I like this team. Bridges has the look of a legit franchise player locked under contract and almost 10 yrs younger than KD. Both Cams are looking like very good complimentary pieces. They have scoring, depth and defense. They still have Ben but they play him short minutes and hes not really a factor in the future until hes an expiring to trade. They are still a bit imbalanced but figuring it out.

The Nets are still a good team - sorry Houston there will be no top 5 picks in the next 3 years - but more important to me they are likable and fun to watch. No more Kyrie in your face drama....no more KD threats and behind the scenes drama. They are one top player away from being able to make a serious run IMO and they have the assets to do it.

As a 30 yr Nets fan I really wanted a title but felt it would be tainted with Kyrie/KD - this team reminds me of the scrappy Kidd led Nets that I loved to watch. A lot needs to happen for them to be a true title contender but its going to be fun to watch unlike the last few years.
Sixers trading Bridges was such a bad move. Nobody liked draft night and it just looks worse on the daily.

They are going to have to go something like 15-8 the rest of the way to get there. They've got Houston twice, but not many gimmes outside of that. The best thing they have going for them is the teams around them don't really care where they end up (truth be told they'd probably all prefer the lottery) but it's not like they are tanking.

Settle down friend.

It doesn't mean much, you are correct. It does show that BOS has a decently deep team though

14-9 gets them to .500 which will definitely make the play in. Could probably be a game below with 13-10 and still get the 9 or 10 seed. They are 2 games out right now. We'll see.

Let's be honest about the 76ers. 5 years of tanking for basically nothing. They hit on one pick/big trade and it was Embiid. Other than that everything else has been trash and if they can't get it right in the next 2ish years (and at this point why would you expect them too) then Embiid is probably going to demand a trade and rightfully so.

This isn't a one pick/trade screwed our franchise.

Don’t think I said that this was the “one” anything. Just that it looks worse every day. He was local. Everyone loved the pick. Then traded for a guy out of the league. The Fultz trade is terrible in hindsight too obviously, but that was different.

Josh Okogie has looked incredible for the Suns since Bridges traded and going to be impossible to not give him significant run if continues playing at the level he is. When he's getting minutes he produces. Guy's a DAWG and everything Suns need defensively next to their stars!!!! Averaging 20-5-2-2 in 3 games (35MPG) post-Bridges and led Suns in minutes last night vs. the Kings. Only thing he lacks is size so imagine they'll have to change him out of lineup based on matchups.
He certainly was far and away the best player on the court for the Suns last night. Suns have to tighten up on D. Him and Ross were the only 2 to make any effort on that end last night

Does Philly have anything left from their plethora of lottery picks other than Embid? Has a team ever squandered that many top 10 picks before in any sport?

Come on. You can't believe that. Did the NBA overstep getting the process stopped or punished? Probably. Did they do it to ruin the franchise? No. They did it to stop teams from openly tanking and doing it for many years.

This isn't a one pick/trade screwed our franchise.
because Adam Silver and the Colangelos colluded to ruin the franchise

Come on. You can't believe that. Did the NBA overstep getting the process stopped or punished? Probably. Did they do it to ruin the franchise? No. They did it to stop teams from openly tanking and doing it for many years.
I don't believe they did it IN ORDER to ruin the franchise. I'm just saying that was the effect. Most of the reason that the team got screwed up is due to what the Colangelos did, not the Process.

1 week since the big moves.....and this Nets fan couldnt be happier!

Does Philly have anything left from their plethora of lottery picks other than Embid? Has a team ever squandered that many top 10 picks before in any sport?
Didn't Cleveland blow a bunch of top 3 picks after Lebron left?

I am pretty sure the Browns say HI!

That's a good point.....the Browns took 5 QBs in the 1st round since 1999. All 5 got released. Jesus.

do you guys remember when some philly fans around here tried to sell us that ben simmons was the equal of anteaternintendo because me and pepperidge farms do take that to the bank bromigos
"Embiid and Ben are both top 5 players in the NBA"

Did someone say Simmons was top 5 or could be? Amazing how he has gone from all-star to barely making it off of the bench. Embiid and the Sixers actually hid his deficiencies for the most part until his full mental breakdown.

I think he's always been this way. Wikkid used to say he believed that Simmons was somewhere on the Autism scale.

They didn't hide his deficiencies, he was just a valuable player regardless of those deficiencies until he became clinically afraid of attacking the rim.

I don't think they hid his deficiencies. I think they got worse until that Atlanta series, but there has been some wild take by 76er fans in this thread over the years and one of them was Simmons being an MVP caliber type player.

He technically got some MVP votes in 20-21 and finished 12th in voting.
