Yeah, they literally posted a graphic last night saying it was pronounced like Brown and discussing that fact.
:fishing:
This is like Theisman. Dude changes the pronunciation just for the **** of it
Some really ignorant comment(s) here. CB is German-American and his Volga German ancestors came from the colony of Herzog. It's how his family has historically pronounced their name.

Look it up. The German pronunciation spelled "braun" is "brown"

German pronunciation of Braun

Hakeem, Moses Malone, and Duncan were all so good. We were lucky to be able to witness their careers. All were far superior players than Kobe, Barkley and Shaq imo.
Duncan, Shaq, Hakeem, Kobe, Barkley, Moses

That's the correct order of greatness
Hakeem, Moses, Duncan........Shaq...........Barkley.....................................................Michael Cooper..........Kobe.

Yep. Hakeem would run circles around Duncan and Shaq.

Shaq would have been very good. He was great because the league wanted him to be. Jordan and Kobe got that league whistle also. Shaq traveled often and would just run guys over. Shaq and Moses with legit calls would have been fun to watch imo. Hakeem in his prime was something. Tough to put him over Duncan or vice versa imo. Both were so good.

Robert Horry who played with both said Hakeem was 20x better than Duncan. I'll defer to him lol

I can see that. Never heard the quote before though. The majority of the league has been selling that Embiid is better than Jokic, so forgive me if I don't auto defer to the players/pundits.

Did he literally say that? That’s a bit harsh.

"They had nobody that could guard Dream [Olajuwon's nickname]. They had nobody that could guard Dream. I'm gonna say that twice because Dream was just that dominant. When we played San Antonio one time, Tim was killing me on the block, and [then-Lakers coach] Phil [Jackson] refused to double-team Tim to get the ball out of his hands. And Dream is 20 times better than Tim Duncan.

"I played with both. I know the work ethic of both. I've seen it live. I've seen these two guys in the gym. I know what Dream brought to practice and I know what Tim brought to practice. I know Tim brought work ethic to practice, but to be a superstar you need to go to the extra level—not saying Tim's not a superstar, but I'm saying what Dream brought to the game was amazing, and I don't think people understand how good Olajuwon was."

This is all good except for Hakeem > Shaq
Ya'll sleep on Moses Malone fwiw. I can't believe I am a Celtics fan hyping a 76errr, but he was a beast. Twelve all stars and THREE MVP awards.

light years ahead of other people at the position in his heyday. fantastic player.

Hakeem is great, but these comments from Horry are just stupid.

Horry was just being superlative about a player he saw first-hand that was simply on another tier within the 'one of the greatest' of their sport

I don't think that's stupid; just an observation by him with some hyperbole

it is hard to compare hakeem to duncan because in my mind they had totally different games hakeem was flashy with great moves and pizzazz and duncan was rightly called the big fundamental he just did all of the little things absolutely the right way but they both had huge impacts and i believe duncan has three more nba titles than the dream i am not taking away from either of them and i respect and love both of them but its very hard to compare them is all im sayin take that to the bank brohans

But Horry has more titles than both of them...take that to the bank ;)

It is a shame Hakeem was stuck playing in the Magic/Bird and then Jordan eras. I think if he came into the league later on like Duncan, he'd have many more. Purely speaking on talent, I'm taking Hakeem over Big Fundamental and Big Aristotle any day, all day.

Duncan and Hakeem were two very different players.

Obviously both legends.

I take Hakeem if I am putting a dream team together and put Timmy at PF lol!

C Hakeem
PF Duncan
SF Lebron
SG Jordan
PG Magic

Done like dinner.
Current player challenge

C - Jokic
PF - Giannis
SF - Durant
SG - Luka
PG - Steph

Pretty sure Horry won a title and played with both, just seemed like those comments are ridiculous IMO

The fact that he did play and win with both (Yeah, i am aware) is why his opinion has more weight.

At least to me

I'd kick Luka for Lebron or AD easily.
Well Lebron was already on the other team. And AD could work, but need another ball handler out there on my team

Yeah. I get it.

Just thought those comments about 20x are laughable.

Yeah. My bad on the Lebron, didn't read the whole chain.

I think this was Italy, not Greece. His dad played in Italy when Kobe was a kid.

Kobe often took his vacations and time off in Greece. Repeatedly, and over a number of years.

I'm not saying you or the other commenter are right or even trying to divine what you both are trying to say, but Kobe spent a lot of time in Greece to the point where it was said he might sign with a Greek team during an NBA work stoppage (I think that's the reason, anyway, but there were strong rumors of him signing with a Greek club at one point).

we were talking about how his childhood effected how his skills developed as a basketball player by focusing on the fundamentals first. This article goes more into depth on his childhood.

WE HAVE A TRADE

The Thunder have traded their least favorable of potential four 2024 first-round picks, the 37th pick in the 2023 NBA draft and a 2024 second-round pick to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for a protected 2029 first-round pick, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Seems like a win-win to me. The Nuggets probably got better value but the Thunder need to exchange some current assets for future.

So tonight makes me nervous. As much as I am hoping for Denver to go up 3-1, I worry they spent so much mental energy in the last game, there is a chance they come out flat.

You have to approach this game believing that there is no way Murray and Joker can repeat their G3 effort. Joker maybe? You also have to believe there is no way Miami stays as cold as they are from three point land. These two variables offsetting will probably result in a very close game.

But I tell myself (and maybe it is the homer in me) MPJ has to show up. He is too good a player to pull a Ben Simmons here. I also want to believe KCP is due for a breakout performance.

I am thankful for alcohol for nights like these.

Some good thoughts here, CJ (especially the last sentence...).

I'm personally not worried about the Nuggets coming out flat. After last game they know only their A game will beat this team.

But IMO you hit on MPJ and KCP being the keys. Miami will likely completely sell out scheme-wise to slow down the Jokic/Murray duo, even if they have to leave the heretofore cold shooting Porter and Pope wide open on the perimeter in the process.

The good news is that Brown, Braun (pronounced "Brown") and Green are playing well, can all hit 3's consistently, and are able to potentially step up to extra production if Porter and Pope continue slumping.

We'll see but I like Denver's chances

Not to sound like an ace but I dont think expending mental energy is a thing for Denver or Miami. These dudes just ball and have fun.
I do think that MPJ won't show up and will sit again late if its close. Side note, Bruce Brown is overdue for a monster game. I think tonight is the night. If coach starts MPJ (I expect he will), he will only get the ball if he works for it. The others have seemed to have had it with him imo. Again, that's based on watching the flow of this offense all year. If MPJ wants to get minutes, he needs to be cutting and the boards. boards. Very simple really.

League whistle will be doing everything it can to extend this series. I don't think it will even matter. Denver by ten again tonight.

@Stoneworker I think Bruce Brown and Aaron Gordon are gonna have a big say in Denvers wins tonight. Quick foul calls will probably neutralize Braun. KCP needs to just keep the ball moving and play good D imo. He's been ice cold all around compared to two months ago.

Miami is also in trouble because it's hard to justify ANY foul call on Joker or Murray because of their style of play. Joker NEVER reaches in or goes over the back, and Murray only reaches when he has that bone head game every couple of weeks. League whistle is gonna have the biggest challenge imo.

Ya. I don't know what's been the deal w/ KCP recently. But you're right, he's too good defensively to not have in there.

Brown and Gordon breaking out would be massive. Such good teammates. They deserve one.

I'm still bullish on MPJ. Dude's a born sniper and IMO it's not a head issue, just that Heat has given him zero space and he's not a good shot creator. But if Miami sags too much and he sees one or two go down, look out.

Hopefully the league whistle thing won't get in the way of what's been real good competition so far. If it does, where I'm worried for Joker is offensive fouls. Some bizarre and inconsistent calls so far on him in that regard

these refs are out of control with the whistles. they're up 0.4 fouls per game since last year and up 0.7 per game since the season before.

over the past 8 years the NBA averages 20.0875 fouls per game. but 20 flat this year. a clear sign that the refs have been..... leaning on teams...... to tilt the scales.... i guess?

It's not the amount of fouls it's how they use them to shape the outcomes of games. Usually to extend series to maximize TV exposure. It's been going on since the 80's, but some years are just much worse. As our games involving certain players....Jordan, Kobe and Shaq, Lebron, and early Harden would get silly calls. It just cheapens the game imo.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not. The Fouls Per Game have been between 19 and 21 per game over the last 15 years and there doesn't appear to be any significant jumps or drops in fouls called at all over the last 15 years or so.

the numbers, over the decades, don't support it.

if they manipulate by calling certain things and not others to impact the flow of a game then they are remarkably consistent across generations of referees, NBA executives, media members, etc. who would have cried foul about it by now.

precisely
the number of fouls per game has been remarkably consistent for a long time. people cry that there are too many fouls being called, but then you look at the actual stats and the yearly variation is like less than half a foul per game either way. across THOUSANDS of games.
