He actually seems genuinely upset by it.

I wonder if something serious is going on at home? He definitely seems like all he can think about is getting back to Serbia. Mentioned it in his on-court interview as well.
I read some rumor a few weeks ago that he could retire if he won the title. I doubt it happens but after seeing him last night I wonder.

Seems like the kind of guy that when he retires you’ll never see him again.

kind of feel bad for Tim Connelly. I mean, he got his bag, but can't fully celebrate this team that he largely built. Props to Calvin Booth for continuing to put the finishing touches on it.

At least Connelly will get his championship next year for sure.
Making one of the worst trades in the last 20 years is probably going to be at least as big a part of his legacy, unfortunately for him.

Really happy for Nuggets fans. They've had some great teams over the years but never could manage to put it together in the post season. I have a feeling this won't be the their only title. This team is Golden State Durant era stacked.

I would put the Nuggets against any other team that made the finals since 2019, and I think they have the best chance to repeat versus those past champs, but they aren't Warrior good.

I agree, and it aligns with this chart about championship teams’ net rating over the last couple decades. Nuggets are ahead of the last 4 winners, but clearly below the KD Warriors.

really wish that the ABC/ESPN sports machine would ease up on trying to sell their stars a little. at least in a moment like this one.

sure, you have to push the marquee players. make sure people buy the product, follow the player, etc. but can we just celebrate the entire organization and the contributions of the other players that also played a part instead of asking each one of them why Jokic won the title all by himself?

"Aaron, great to see you here! congratulations for getting to play with Jokic! can you talk about why you wouldn't be here without him??"

"Jamal, 20 and 10 for the series but you were outplayed by maybe the greatest player in franchise history. can you tell us why you aren't as good as Nikola??"

"coach Malone, terrific victory for Nikola tonight and without him nobody would know your name. can you talk about what impact Jokic has had on your life and legacy"?

I don't think the Nuggets win the title with Connelly as GM. He was too attached to the roster and I don't think would have traded Morris for KCP and that was a huge key for the team.

Horridly bad and demeaning questions

Some notes from last night from my perspective from the nose bleeds:
  • MPJ (and pretty much the rest of the team) couldn't buy a bucket, but I thought he played a great game otherwise. The loudest the crowd got prior to the last 8 seconds of the game was when he made his three late in the third.
  • The Nuggets defense when dialed in is legitimately great. We didn't see that much in the regular season and it was missing at times in the post season, but overall, they were fantastic. Everybody they were playing was a plus defender in the playoffs.
  • That Jimmy Butler shooting foul late in the fourth was one of the worst calls I've ever seen. The NBA is lucky the Nuggets won or that would have been the biggest story in sports for the next couple days.
  • When Lisa Saulters (spelling? don't give a ****, **** her) got on the dais, the entire crowd booed for a solid 15 seconds. When she got back on the mic to introduce Kroenke, she got booed again. Fantastic.
  • Jokic seemed completely disinterested in all the of post game **** other than celebrating with his team and family. I agree with Cappy above - I don't think we will ever see him again after he retires suddenly at some point.

"hey, guy wearing a uniform whose name nobody cares to know, why didn't you pass the ball more to Jokic when you were on the court? do you think that's why our statisticians were the only people who noticed you even made it on the court in this series and what can you do to elevate Jokic's game if you're still in the NBA next year?"

what happened to make Denver fans hate Lisa freaking Salters?

Take this for what its worth but this comes from a twitter user names Let's go to the Phones "Which is a line from a local sports talk station" and they've been right on a lot of Philly sports stuff. A friend of his was at dinner tonight and not a sports guy ended up sitting next to who would be Tobias Harris agent discussing a phone call with Tobias. For those who don't know Tobias father is his agent. This guys buddy was amused by the lack of discretion on all of this and found it amusing.

Summary of the convo was apparently this

1. Tobias will be traded

2. 76ers are very likely to Resign Harden.
Tobias Harris over me? - Jimmy Butler

It was Actually Ben Simmons over Harris. Harris was a knee jerk reaction to losing butler as 76ers didn’t want egg on their face and look like they traded all of that for 2 rent a players.

Isn't Toby and his contract, right now...something you'd have to give picks with to get away from unless there's some big jamoke making the same salary at the end of someone's bench?

I'd imagine at the trading deadline, when teams are looking for talent, is when you'd be able to get something for Harris.

I don’t think it’s as valueable as some are saying here. He’s overpaid as someones 3rd option. Maybe a team looking to shed salaries does something of flipping contracts and buys him out but I think Sixers need to give up something else here

As a Bucks fan that just got to experience this two years ago, I felt very happy for you last night Kev. 👍

🏆 Congrats bromingo.

It is sad that I’m saying this, I just hope Denver fans keeps its stuff together and doesn’t turn this into our embarrassment, but I’m guessing I will be wrong
Welp
Hard to know if the shooter was a cop or a regular bad guy.
not same incident
Two years ago my son and I were in the Deer District celebrating Giannis & company winning a title. Before all hell broke loose we agreed on a spot a few blocks outside of where the action was likely to be to meet if we got separated (parking lot near Water St).

Luckily we didn't get separated and enjoyed the celebration all around the Stadium. Ran into people we knew and high fived lots of others we didn't. Just a great experience overall. We took off before midnight and made our way down Water St and Brady before heading home.

Like in Denver last night (and in almost every city that wins a championship or seemingly has any large gathering nowadays) unfortunately shootings took place. For us, thankfully, they occurred an hour after we left, but it did hit home when I saw where one of them occurred ...in the parking lot we agreed to as our place to meet if separated. 🫤

Sadly, this is where we are. Hopefully Denver has as great of a championship parade as Milwaukee had. Those are some of the moments you remember, more so than the games at times. Giannis showing up the next day with the trophy at a Chick-fil-A and asking for a 50 nugget (after scoring 50 points to close it out) is still classic. Maybe Jokic can name his next stable in Serbia the Triple Double? Anyway, enjoy the memories being created Nuggets fans!

they booed her for admitting that she hadn't worked any Denver games and didn't know how good he was??

jokic only the 3rd finals mvp drafted in round 2 (reed, dj). i guess every other mvp was drafted in round 1. preface this by saying willis reed was round 2, pick 1….#10 overall in a 9 or 10 team nba.

Your job for 20 years is as an NBA sideline reporter and you say "This is really the first time I've had a chance to watch him play, and I got to admit, I've been sleeping on this guy" about someone who's already been a 2-time MVP under your watch

Yeah. That's pretty stupid and she deserves what she got.

I know, right? It's not like he was a two time MVP when she made those comments!!!!

Congrats to the Nugget fans. As a very casual, East Coast NBA fan....I've never really watched them intently. That's a very good team that I hope can be kept together for a few more years. MIA has nothing to be ashamed of themselves. Cutting down MIL and BOS made for a very interesting playoffs.

Great thoughts.

-Agree on MPJ. The eruption when he finally got a 3 to fall was noticeable even on TV. Great to see intelligent fans appreciating his efforts and contributions elsewhere on the court
- It's amazing how the Nuggets elevated their team defense on almost a game-to-game basis throughout the playoffs. They were nowhere close to that in the regular season. Heck, the last 20 years even
-Butler foul absolutely could've altered the outcome.
- One of the best celebration shots circulating the internet was of Jokic Bros. tossing Malone in the air (below)

Malone/Jokic Bros

she's a sideline reporter. her job is to study and report on the teams that she is reporting on that night.

and she appears for all of 30 seconds per game. hell, she even admitted that she hadn't watched him until now but that he's awesome.

and for this Denver fans booed her? classy!

eta: maybe i'd understand if she went on a radio show and said "i've never watched Jokic play but i just don't think hes any good and Denver doesn't stand a chance". then, i get it. sure. but her job is to study for the games she's working... not the ones she isn't... and she even said now that she has seen him he's an amazing player. she offered no critique.

sheesh, you guys maybe aren't the best representatives of Denver fan but given that those in the arena booed her for a compliment on the Rich Eisen show.. maybe you are??

I can see why Denver fans were giving her hell. It's your job to cover the NBA especially a 2x MVP on a team with the best record in the league. This felt a lot to me like back in the Clutch City days when the world was finally waking up and giving Hakeem his flowers even though he's been playing at a high level for a decade.

Seems super petty.

You are viewing the Salters comments with absolutely no context for the disrespectful lack of media coverage that the Nuggets received historically up until now.

It is akin to Malone calling out the media about being all about the Lakers narrative during that series. Etc, etc.

So until you can appreciate that context you have absolutely no clue with your judgments

Helps to keep in mind - crowds of sports fans, generally speaking, are complete idiots.

Saw another interview from the NBATV cast with him after, and he said he apparently has some big horse race on Sunday. So he's gonna really be pinching time leaving Thursday afternoon.

Always the horses with this guy lol.

I decided to get the league pass as I live away from my hometown team and I thought they might be fun to watch. Happened to catch a Nuggets game early in the season and was quite impressed with the Joker and the way the team played. Second half of the season I watched more of the Nugget’s then any other team. Happy they won! Congrats to Denver fans!

swear to everything i believe in, if i see Lisa Saulterns in public i'm going to boo her lustily for what she didn't say about Giannis

see how i mis-spelled her name to add to the disrespect??
