2022 Philadelphia Eagles - Leave Gannon in Arizona and let’s run through the NFC again in 2023. (4 Viewers)

Saw a few tweets that Liberty QB Malik Willis has been impressing during Senior Bowl practices, even "catching the eye" of Howie. I've seen him described as "Jalen Hurts with a much better arm"...

Don't get too enamored. Howie is always looking at QBs they are trying to make a story when something isn't there. You can bet your wages if Howie does take a QB in this draft it won't be Willis.

For us Season Ticket Members, 2022 is going to be niiiiiiiice:

  • 9 home games
  • Only 1 dumb preseason game we have to pay for
  • Packers and Steelers games will bring $$$ if you have tickets to sell
  • Titans coming to Philly gives us our first chance to see Henry in person
  • Outside chance Doug will be coming back as coach of the Jags
Boom!

I people love the potential of his arm though, he'll go before we pick. LOTS of teams with QB needs ahead of us - Panthers, Commandoes especially.

Malik Willis is the definition of a QB who relies too much of athleticism and arm strength and will be overdraft in the NFL. Don't know why teams continue to make this mistake. Willis production also didn't live up to competition strength per Data Competition comparisons. In Fact going off college by Comparison of Hurts Willis was much worse. When I mean talent his production didn't equate to better numbers for the team vs better competition. Did a lot of his damage vs weaker competition

I don’t know how much you want to put into but I found this conversation interesting and I’m starting to believe it more and more. He brings up some good points and insight into how Howie approaches the QB

The Honest NFL guy is pretty authentic. He apparently has worked with Andy in PHI and KC. Some of us think he might be Brad Childress but not sure.

Doug is back!

Former Eagles’ HC Doug Pederson is being hired as the next head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, source tells ESPN.

Thought for sure he wouldn't go there with the Baalke stuff. Hope it works out. Gonna be interesting to see who is on his staff, anyone from the previous staff. With Culley out in Hou I haven't heard anything if Hou keeps Dino. I know Doug was good friends with Dino and wanted to bring him back to Philly when he was in KC and was interviewing for the Eagles job. Now with Culley gone in HOU gonna be interesting to see.

Heard Doug is apparently bringing in a good staff but I haven't heard rumors on who. It will be interesting like I said if anyone from the former Eagles staff joins him. I doubt Jim Schwartz comes back with him though.

@AaronWilson_NFL

Texans' finalists for head coaching vacancy includes Jonathan Gannon, Josh McCown and Brian Flores as detailed process continues, according to league sources

Probably will bring in Navy for OC. Not sure who he can grab for DC. He's got some clout though in the NFL. I'm sure he'll get a decent veteran coach.

I think he's a good stabilizing force for a young team. He can get Lawrence on the right path and maybe learn from his mistakes in the final years of Philly.

Somehow I don't think Flores is going to get that gig.
Weird that they are putting it out there that he's a finalist if he's not getting it, because it makes them look really bad if doesn't (especially over the other two guys AND with the current lawsuit.) I could see putting that out there BECAUSE you plan to hire him, otherwise you're better off not naming him a finalist. But, I guess it wouldn't be surprising that the HOU ownership and FO would be that tone deaf and think that putting his name out there even though they aren't hiring him makes them look good?

4 years ago today was one of my best days!
One of the more surreal moments, of a day filled with them, was on the light rail from the stadium back to the Mall of America parking. We got on and it was about 80% Eagles fans. We were all hooting and hollering, high fiving, etc. for the first few minutes, then it was dead silent the rest of the ride as we all just sat there soaking it in and being in disbelief at the same time (and the Pats fans were silent for a different reason.)

It was like collectively, it hit all of us: "Wow, that actually happened, after all those decades of almosts and disappointments, but now what? We have no idea what happens next because we spent all that time wanting THIS moment and never thought about the fact that life would go on after and what will that be like? Will that feeling, that experience, ever happen again?"

Very reminiscent of the end of "The Graduate" where the adrenaline has worn off and the realization of what they’ve just done begins to fully set in.

Anthony Harris    this is a great man.

"11-year-old Audrey Soape lost her father last year and her grandfather five weeks later after a battle with lung cancer.

When the local church’s daddy-daughter dance was approaching, Audrey asked her mother if she could accompany her. Holly Soape had another idea.

The Soape family, originally from Minnesota, have been fans of Harris since he was a member of the Vikings.

Often reaching out to Harris on social media, Audrey’s mom contacted him in an attempt to give her daughter a night she wouldn’t soon forget....."

After that night I don't even remember much until the parade. Just thatI had originally taken some vacation time to be prepared to make the parade and not have work. Only thing I remembered was my one boss working my shift so I could go to it because she didn't really care about it.

A couple names being mentioned for Dougs staff but no one has said if its OC or positions, Defelipo, Matt Burke, Eugene Chen and a rumor of Press Taylor.

i'm actually surprised doug took the job, i would have thought he is shellshocked about having an overbearing FO. or maybe he likes it and would rather just focus on the game day planning, which isn't a bad thing especially for that team. probably didn't have many options though. good luck to him.

love the new thread title lol.

This is going to be interesting. If he tries to bring the band back together from his last year here, he’ll be fired by this time in 2024.

did a PFN mock draft sim last night

Traded 16 to CHI for their 23 1st and 2023 4th plus made a few other trades back to acquire more picks in this draft

end result

15 Devin Lloyd LB Utah: We desperately need LB who can make plays and Lloyd fits

19 Kair Elam CB Florida. Take the best CB left on the board in the 1st round. Eagles need to get younger in the secondary. Blanketed some of the best WRs in the SEC

51 Christian Harrris ALB: Add more LB depth

71 Coby Bryant CB Cincy: Getting younger at CB and who doesn't want a Coby Bryant in Philly who wears #24?

83: Go back to Cincy with WR Alan Pierce: What the heck just chuck it Pierce is probably there he's that kind of guy but he has speed to go along with it and good route running. Adds a big X WR

121 James Cook RB UGA: Going back to the SEC. James Cook is a do it all 3 down back. I think this move would single to Eagles fans the team is moving on from Miles Sanders or don't see getting a contract done Inconsistency and injuries have played a toll on his career so far. Why not get a replacement here who fits the eagles offensive scheme

153 Isiah Pola-Moa USC S: This is Troy Polamalu's nephew and like his Uncle he can lay the lumber but at an imposing size where Uncle Troy was smaller 5-10 to 6-3. Very good career at USC and adds help at safety

159: Josh paschal DE/DT Kentucky: Paschal did well as an edge rusher and run defender at UK even playing rush LB. He will mostly likely benefit moving inside to DT and playing a 3 Tech in the NFL

165 Cordell Volson North Dakota State: Our old college friend again. Volson is a huge T at 6-6 Lane isn't getting younger and is a mauler in the run game. He has great wingspan too. This guy loves to punish anyone who tries to tackle his RB. Book end Tackles that are huge protecting the Eagles next Franchise QB? Yes please

177, Jean Delance UF OT: At this stage in the draft this is a value pick. Why another T? Depth and a few OG's I like weren't worth reaching for here.

187 James Mitchell TE Va Tech: want a do it all TE who can return kicks line up in the backfield etc? Meet James Mitchell. Eagles could use a young 3rd TE and if he's not ready to start he adds another weapon on special teams. Really good lead blocker and physical after the catch. Could be a Swiss army knife for the offense. Getting someone this versatile this late is a value pick

191 Allie Greeen IV CB Mizzou: Imposing physical size for a CB. Holds his own out there vs the SEC best

207 Ben Brown OG Ole Miss: Really solid pick here this late Jeff Stoutland is running the show with the OL so any OL we give him I'm confident he can turn if not a great starter at least serviceable depth. He can play all over the line too.

256 James Houston IV LB Jacksonville State: Transferred from UF to Jack ST for more playing time. One of the biggest losses to the UF Defense. Was a high impact player at Jack ST. Pcks a pass off this year 6 yards behind the LOS and turned it into a house call for 6. Really good pass rusher. Getting someone like this 4 picks left in the 7th is a steal.

There's a few guys on the staff I don't have an issue if he brings them in. It's his ability of how he surrounds those guys, where he puts them and if he holds staff members accountable rather then protecting his friends.

I hadn't seen that before and it's a pretty cool tool.  I don't know much about these '22 prospects but screwing around with it for a 3 round draft, I traded all the picks back out of the first round and received:

Jaquan Brisker - S - Penn State

Travon Walker - EDGE - Georgia

Trent McDuffie - CB - Washington

Jalen Wydermyer - TE - Texas A&M

and the kicker... 4 additional 2023 1sts from HOU, JAX, SEA, and GB

Bryce and Bijan, here we come!

At the end we saw who his friends were and it was a who’s who of failures. I’m curious about Flipp though. If he ends up as OC that’s a good start for him.

Two LB's, and no DE's in the first two rounds?  Are we assuming Howie got drunk and missed the draft in this scenario?

Surprised Doug got a gig.  He's clearly not thought of highly around the league with so few opportunities.  I think everyone around the league saw that he wasn't the head of that offense.

Could also be a function of no other “name” candidates being interested in the job because they wouldn’t fire Baalke.

Philly fans, do you have any opinion of Howie supposedly showing interest in QB M Willis during senior bowl week? Would you be in favor or against using a 1st for him?

I think *that* offense was a unique time-space anomaly, that is unable to be replicated, but Doug OR Frank.

I'm ambivalent.  Honestly doubt he'll be available when we pick anyway...  If they draft him, it tells me that Roseman and Siriani feel that Hurts just doesn't have the potential to be a starter, so sure, why not take a shot.  We're not a QB away though, but we have 3 firsts.  Using one on a QB if they slip isn't gonna kill us.

How did you manage 4 '23 picks? Not a big fan of this if you were only able to acquire 4 players in there for this year.

It's a cool tool I found like 3 yrs ago on a group my cousin and I belonged too for Eagles fans with my one uncle. We were all essentially kicked out of the group because I exposed how bad 2 of the mods sources were on Eagles news and didn't like it despite the fact I never said anything to them about their sources etc just posted info. Then they booted my cousin and uncle and everyone else who defended me. Either way one of the guys in the group was using it. The whole site is really cool and gives really good in depth scouting without having to pay for everything. There are paywall features but the free stuff is just as good

Theres some conflicting reports a few bigger names told them flat out no because of Baalke being there still

Yeah he's not that interested. This is a non story from people who I talk to more in the know. Howie is always looking at QBs. He's more prepared to trade 1 of our 1s this year for an extra 1 in '23. The Eagles are always looking at QBs even those they don't have a chance getting. Andy did it with Sam Bradford and other high picks and Howie continued that trend. This is a non story the media is using for clickbait material do to the Eagles overall QB situation.

If there is a QB the Eagles are very interested in going off their interest in trying to move up for Zach Wilson last year, Sam Howell or UNC fits the profile. By the time the draft starts we'll hear about the Eagles being "interested" in almost every QB prospect. This is a non story at best for clicks and views

Just read about this tonight

Good for him, that’s a great thing he did for that kid !

Nothing wrong with showing interest (could benefit you in a trade scenario) and doing your due diligence at that position.

I wouldn’t care either way if we picked him in the first round. We have 4 early picks so we can still address major needs with the other 3.

The more I read and look at this draft I’m moving closer to not taking a QB with any of the first 4. Let Hurts get another year and see if he can grow some. If you want to take a Ridder or Strong in the 3rd or 4th I’m good with that. We still have Minshew for a year so even picking one of them isn’t a necessity either.

Definitely wish Doug success with the Jags (except when they come to Philly this season), but after what happened to Foles' career after he went there, Duval might just have bad juju for ex-Eagles.

ETA: Look at the second photo in this article about Doug being introduced in JAX. He looks like the hero's dad being held hostage by two bad guys in a low-budget action movie  :lmao:

NYG are hiring Eagles Director of Player Personnel, Brandon Brown. Going to be Assistant GM, just like Ian Cunningham who left for the Bears last week.

Assistant GM Factory, baby!

Foles is an interesting case. The dude can make the NFL throws but was so inconsistent during his career. That's what's so infuriating about him. However he's had a ton of luck in his career too on a lot of dropped balls that should've been picked. It's funny when people talk about Foles the 2nd time around here. Looking at his numbers outside of the SB playoff run his numbers are pretty pedestrian at best including when he filled in for Wentz and the Playoff games vs CHI and NO. His numbers don't say to me he should've been kept. I appreciate what he did and all but Foles career given his talent is very frustrating case.

Andy Weidl, VP of player personnel, seems to be in the lead to go back to PIT and be their GM.

And Jim Schwartz is interviewing with NYG for their DC.

Really hope they hire Schwartz. Wonder how many times he'll fall asleep in the office and the assistant DC runs practice and does the game plans.

Also remember when I said Schwartz retiring for "health Issues" was an Urban Meyer stunt? Yeah this pretty much confirms it if he goes to NYG. Cool dude when not coaching but after the SB got incredible lazy and Doug allowed this for JS and other coaches. Zero accountability

Andy Weidl, VP of player personnel, seems to be in the lead to go back to PIT and be their GM.
Worth mentioning: Weidl’s two direct reports were Ian Cunningham and Brandon Brown. If he goes, the whole top of our scouting and player evaluation staff will be gone with one of our biggest draft-capital drafts 2 months away. Not ideal.

Gannon has been notified he’s no longer in the running for the HOU job, so looks like he’s back!
I sense and get your excitement for the sake of continuity but the bottom of the barrel HOU rejection incites a number of questions

Nah, I could take him or leave him. Wasn't trying to run him out of town, but wouldn't have shed a tear if he left. I'm probably the most happy with the "will he/won't he" roller coaster we've been on with him and the 3 potential HC jobs he was in the running for looks to be over.

yeah, the bar is so incredibly low after Urban. Primary goal is to "fix" any damage done to Lawrence.  If he can get 4 to 6 wins total  in a weak AFC South next year, he'll be fine.  Functional and competitive would be a huge upgrade.
