One of the more surreal moments, of a day filled with them, was on the light rail from the stadium back to the Mall of America parking. We got on and it was about 80% Eagles fans. We were all hooting and hollering, high fiving, etc. for the first few minutes, then it was dead silent the rest of the ride as we all just sat there soaking it in and being in disbelief at the same time (and the Pats fans were silent for a different reason.)
It was like collectively, it hit all of us: "Wow, that actually happened, after all those decades of almosts and disappointments, but now what? We have no idea what happens next because we spent all that time wanting THIS moment and never thought about the fact that life would go on after and what will that be like? Will that feeling, that experience, ever happen again?"
Very reminiscent of
the end of "The Graduate" where the adrenaline has worn off and the realization of what they’ve just done begins to fully set in.
