I'm spitting out Facts. He didn't beat one team above .5OO and any winning team last year absolutely killed him with a good defense.

Yes but it's not just one player that makes a team. The Eagles team (by pretty much every expert opinion) is far superior compared to last year. Barring injuries, their floor should be double digit wins given their talent and weak division.


ETA - ok 10 wins is not really their floor but I think it's a safe bet. In fact, the Vegas odds is currently 9.5 and I'm going to make that over bet now.

At the end of the day though, there's still 2 questions.
1) Can Hurts pass the ball when he needs to, and the defense knows its coming? (With a corollary has he improved in being able to read a defense and make a quick decision?)
2) Was the horrific play by the Eagles defense against competent QB's last year all players? Or a scheme weakness?

The roster being improved won't matter a whole lot in W/L, imo - if those two questions don't go in the Eagles favor.
 
The way I look at it, Hurts can be the same player and improve from 61% to 66% by replacing Reagor with Brown and a 2nd year Devonte. Modest improvement by the player himself should ensure at least that growth.

I think the defense is a good enough to win us some game. I think even if Hurts doesn't improve if he doesn't have a step back it won't be the entire reason we lose either. But yeah I think a lot of experts are just looking for Hurts to take the next step. I've watched this guy since freshman year of college and I've yet to see him take that step. SO to say I'm hesitant on him is an understatement.

Interesting prediction here. I don't think they are as good as people think they are but I don't see them without at least a winning record this year

You are right we've seen for yrs though how one player can make a difference. You think LAR is winning a SB with Goff at QB last year? There's exceptions to the rules like Dilfer in Baltimore but he also had a great RB, a very stout offensive line with at least 2 HoFers and a defense that was historic and would rival Buddy Ryan's Eagles D's or the Bears Defense back then. CK also made it to the SB in a similar fashion. He just didn't know how to manage the game well.

I'm not saying the team will be horrible with Hurts. I think they are competitive with him. I just don't like going into every season wondering if this is the year my teams QB makes the leap. This is a make or break year for Hurts but I wouldn't hesitate to say the Eagles already have their decisions made either based on people I've talked to in the know and how they've handled their roster. They set themselves up to really compete if Hurts makes the jump it could be a very dangerous team. if he doesn't do well the Eagles can say he underperformed and we did give him a chance this year. They got ample supply of draft ammo to move around next years deep QB draft if they feel a guy there is better suited for their future.
 
Really surprising amount of m/m coverage from the Lions, no issue with Hurts taking the yards on the ground vs. this.
 
This could’ve been an absolute monster day for Hurts. Just crap FF luck with Brown and Goedert getting tackled inside the 5 three times. All 3 ended in rushing TDs by Ssnders, Gainwell and Scott.

Yep those were frustrating for sure. Overall great game though and he may not be done.

How is any defense supposed to be very good? It's week one, and they replaced like 6 defensive starters. No one has any idea what it looks like.
 
I don't feel great about this, tbh. The plays Jalen makes with his legs are amazing - but I just dont think that's sustainable against good teams. He's constantly bailing after his first read to run. It worked today...but. I still think the key to his growth is relying more on his arm, or we'll struggle against good teams like we did all season last year.

I missed some plays here and there working. I feel embarrassed even though we won. For starters the defense was embarasingly pathetic at times. I love DeAndre Swift but Jesus we made him look like the 2nd coming of Barry Sanders. Gannon needs to get back to pressuring the QB like he did from after the Lions first drive to the pick 6. If it wasn't for the pick 6 we probably lose this game. I loved how he was blitzing Maddox today. Hopefully those pressures next Monday night result in sacks though. Should've had way more than we did.

Hurts did make a lot of plays with his legs but he looks lost after his first read isn't there and he was eyeing AJ Brown too much. Ball needs to be spread a bit more and not getting the ball into Devonte Smith's hands is Unacceptable in anyway. Even a screen, end around etc just something to get him going. Lions didn't blanket cover him either. This rushing attack I don't think is sustainable against the better teams. Yes Offensive Line looked bad at times today but should be better. Hurts made a few good throws including the deep ball to Brown but then in the RZ he made like 3 terrible plays in a row. No time outs left WTF are you doing throwing short to Gainwell? The Read Option on the play before defender read his eyes.

There's just times where you see what Hurts maybe could be but it's never consistent. 1 great play maybe 2 and then he throws in 6-7 consecutive head scratchers. Even on plays that end up being positive it on those bad plays it's the wrong read or made a play with his legs instead of standing in the pocket through his progression. He needs to have more faith in his arm because if not, sorry to the Hurts fans but he won't be here past this season and for all of us Eagles fans that doesn't mean success. We all hope he does well because if he does we do well but he's a very frustrating QB to watch and root for.

Also Why in the hell are we running Scott in shotgun in short yardage or giving Baby Yoda short yardage downs. Isn't this why Sermon was brought in and Kennedy Brooks? A sneak is sufficient there or giving it to at least Sanders.

I feel more like we lost today then really won honestly. I know the Lions aren't you Zero wins in a season team anymore but we should've won by double digits and at least 2 scores.

not much of a LB issue as much as the DLINE wasn't doing their job to hold guys off to let the LBs make tackles. We were getting gashed big time.
