2022 Philadelphia Eagles - Leave Gannon in Arizona and let’s run through the NFC again in 2023. (3 Viewers)

It's all good. Bummed the defense gave up so many points, but also with 4 turnovers that's going to happen. Bottom line, we win against the Saints, and if we have to face Dallas at our place with a week of rest? I like our chances.

Same for us on D. At the end of the game I heard the announcers say “The Dallas defense showed up” and I was like :oldunsure:

In reality it’s more likely the Cowboys get bounced early but hopefully we all get a third game. I’ll say this, I think we’re the only team in your way until the SB. SF kid Purdy will turn into a pumpkin soon.

I agree with this. Would be less confidant if they had to play in SF. Vikings might be the worst 12 win team in history. (Not that they are a bad team, but they play more like a barely got in wildcard...12 wins is a joke) Cowboys are the most dangerous as long as the games are in Philly

I agree with this. I honestly don't think you can entirely count Brady and the vets in TB out, either. If the timing is right and they all get healthy at once (and Godwin's knee keeps improving) they're dangerous. Now, I haven't followed the state of their OL because I concentrate mainly on skill players. But they're dangerous, especially in a one-and-done scenario.

Or at least I tell myself that. SF drubbed them two weeks ago.

Disagree with both of you about San Fran. They’ve been the best overall team in football for a while now based on advanced metrics. They’re dominant when fully healthy and they don’t need Purdy to win games. They need him to continue doing what he’s been doing. Why is he going to suddenly turn into a pumpkin with the talent surrounding him? What is that based off?

It would be awesome if Purdy won a SB.

Non advanced metrics says he gets mollywhopped by somebody in the playoffs.

Really want to see the tape again how they gave up 40 points on defense. I get some of it but that is inexcusable for a team with high expectations
Prescott's final numbers vs #Eagles: vs zone: 24/24, 300 yards, 12.5 ypa, 3 TD vs man: 3/11, 47 yards, 4.3 ypa, 1 INT

So Gannon still a concern. Losing Maddux and missing CJGJ doesn't help, but c'mon. Does he not have access to these stats during the game?

Cj returns for playoffs right? He gives us another great def weapon

I think he's eligible this week, but no idea if he's ready or not.

Some positives from today:
Smith and Brown are the first dual 1,000 yards receivers in Eagles history.
Sweat now has 11 sacks and Graham 9. One more for Graham will not only give him his first double digit sack season of his career, but also the first time in NFL history that one team has four players with double digit sacks.
Team now has 61 sacks, 1 shy of the team record (1989) and 11 shy of the NFL record ('84 Bears).

That last part is pretty crazy. Rare company.

Wild. And man you should be proud. Your team made great plays today. Look forward to the next one

Its actually encouraging how much has to go wrong for us to lose a game. Gannon gets a pick 6 in man, then switches to zone the rest of the game and they go to score 40 points. Some really dumb stuff went on throughout this game. Quez man, not a "get the ball" guy really at all. We need a real slot guy and relegate Watkins to a speed/deep threat WR4 role b/c I'm sick of his s***. Gannon man, the results are there, but man, its like we can see its gonna eventually fail, like it did yesterday. The lack of pressure on the QB all day pissed me off. We get him and then they convert anyway. Annoyed. Saints and Giants are going to throw EVERYTHING at us these last 2 weeks. Nervous Eagles Fan here, but Merry Christmas.

Pretty much covered it. I won't be mad if Gannon moves on. We do have to remember these coaches are young and wil make mistakes but some of his calls on defense are not defensible

It's funny, I was starting to come around on Gannon, and felt like I judged him too harshly. The measureables are there: DVOA against the pass, yards given up, Turnovers created, sacks (I mean, 4 guys who might hit double digits?!?!?). Then, last night happened.

Losing Avonte while missing CJGJ doesn't help, and Dallas has a high-powered Offense, but the difference between man and zone coverage, and the insistence on sticking with zone when Lamb and Schultz were just playing pitch and catch, was maddening. I fear his scheme will cost us in the playoffs. And I've always hated the "bend, don't break" philosophy on D. I still think we'll lock up the 1 seed, and giving NOS another loss will help our draft pick next year.

Didn't like the illegal contact call against Slay....WR initiated that contact. I know they'll call it every time but I don't think they should.
Four turnovers was the problem....Minshew made good decisions but accuracy was a little off.

Honestly believe too much was being made of this game...Eagles were the dog for a reason....it's hard to win a third straight on the road...against a good team with your backup? and THEY DIDN'T NEED TO WIN! What we really need is for Maddox, Johnson and the rookie DT to not be hurt badly.
On the 4th and 8? Man we got shafted on a few calls. That and the fumble that we recovered late and they just gave back to Dallas without even looking at it. Not surprising. Nfl wanted cowboys to win this one for sure

Only losers blames officiating. We shot ourselves in the foot with mistakes yesterday. Maybe now fans realize why Miles Sanders doesn't play at end of Half and games. You can't trust him to not eventually gift wrap the ball to the other team. Coming out of college he had the highest % of fumbling out of any RB in the class and highest out of the last 3 classes up to his. He had don't well up till last week but it's always something to remember with him.

We had this game won yesterday shot ourselves in the foot. Despite a short week with a back up I don't think you could expect anything less of Minshew. The 2 picks hurt and should've had a third but was dropped. 333 or whatever against a top 5 Defense for a back up on a short week and 3 scores isn't a bad thing. The accuracy issues and timing should be cleaned up. He hasn't played with the #1s all year practice wise. We all remember how bad in 17 Foles was initially after starting for Wentz and looked what happened. It was nice seeing a QB with some mustard on the ball. Just shocking sometimes seeing different velocity from certain QBs and how much harder or stronger someones arm is over some else. Doesn't always mean great things if you can't hit the side of the barn but it's fun to watch the gunslingers go.

Quez needs to be benched. Dude looks like he's showing zero effort out there. both INTs were on him the first one he didn't even try to break up and got alligator arms. Loosing Maddox hurts and the Lamb TD wasn't on Slay. Seeing some scumbags who I won't even bother calling "fans" on social media saying some awful things to Slay and in his family. And people wonder why the world hates our fanbase at times? Absolute trash people and won't even bother saying what I really want about these animals as I'll be sent to timeout. 5 catches for 43 yards according to PFF was what Slay gave up yesterday. That play was a missed one on Scott. CJGJ not being out there hurt.

2nd to last drive should be prime example why when people ask "Why isn't Miles Sanders in on 2 min offense at end of half or games?" You can't trust him to not eventually gift wrap the ball to the other team. Coming out of college he had the highest % of fumbling out of any RB in the class and highest out of the last 3 classes up to his. He had done well up till last week but it's always something to remember with him.

Not sure why we are running RPOs when our back up isn't a guy known for running. Who da F is buying that. Thats on Steichen or Nick right there. Didn't like those calls all game yesterday. I was laughing every time we ran one. Early in the game first drive we ran the same RPO 3 times and had to settle for a FG. Also not sure why we are playing Zone on Prescott when he's good at zone.

In the end we had a shot to win this still. Minshew showed a lot of baller in him yesterday didn't even seem phased on the final drive. Despite losing I was having a good laugh seeing the supposed All Pro Micah Parson's gasping for air at the end like he was out of shape while our top young WR we drafted over him was making fantastic big time catches at the end of the game and looked like he could go another full game. Scary we had a back up in there and only reason we lost was we shot ourselves in the foot. Thats what you want out of your back up giving your team a chance at the end. Next week should be a bit easier with NO coming in.

I've been saying for weeks vikings aren't as good as their record shows. They're lucky they played Indy last week or they'd be talking about an embarrassing loss not one of the best comebacks in NFL history.

Their O-line is in shambles. If a team can blitz Brady and get there on time they are in trouble. They are one dimensional and barely have a run game

Wonder if the zone had something to do with Maddox out though.

Anyone think that Gannon played so much zone because they didn't want to show Dallas what might be used against them in a playoff game?
You know, I'm halfway there to be honest. Bc, what the hell else could the explanation be? Maybe the mix of Josiah Scott + Ed Reed Blankenship having to start he feared getting torched deep easily in man on miscommunication mixed with not wanting to show hands etc. Its still very annoying and that 3rd and 30 man, lol gfoh w that garbage man I hate those plays. Overall though, team should easily beat Saints or Giants team, even w Minshew, provided we play conservative, run it, don't pass much etc, playaction. Can't trust Gardner too much now really.

I'm going to give a small story that could actually explain this. During 19 season when we lost most of our DB's outside of Jenkins the new DBs came in many off the street not knowing the playbook. Jim Schwartz wouldn't dumb it down or play simple stuff the guys "had to know his defense". It just falls in line with JS's thick head this is how we do things and its final and one of the big reasons Corey Udlin left btw. Udlin and my Coworkers son who ended up as the assistant DC Coach as well as DB coach 2 in the final year Dino Vasso Took time after practice for several hours with the newer DBs. Malcolm Jenkins also stayed to help out. They went over plays and coverages and dumbed it down for those guys. It's one of the many impressive things about that 19 season when we made the playoffs with all those injuries.

Perhaps Gannon dumbed it down with 2 big names out. I think if it was only Blankenship out there he'd have stuck to the game plan but losing Maddox I think a lot of people don't realize how important he is. Just losing him isn't a huge deal on its own but add in another top DB out as well and you run into issues now.

Anyone think that Gannon played so much zone because they didn't want to show Dallas what might be used against them in a playoff game?
Was thinking that most of the game. That was NOT a must win game by any stretch, and it's very very hard to beat a decent team three times in a single season. It would have been very wise to keep the A plan out of that game and play around with B and C plans for playoff data points.

And this is why I wanted Jalen to play. He plays against Dallas and we win, we lock everything up and nothing else matters for the next four weeks. Now we’re entering into the nightmare scenario I described a few pages ago. All of a sudden the Saints game is way more pressure packed, going into the game with Minshew and without arguably the best RT in the league. Saints still have a lot to play for-not to mention shading their first draft pick that we get next year. I still think we win but it’s not a given, and **** me sideways if we lose and go into a must win game in week 18 against a divisional opponent that is playing for a playoff spot. At that point you HAVE to play Jalen.

This sucks.

Very good chance Giants have little to nothing to play for also

Maybe. As it stands today they are in, but a loss next week puts them outside the WC I think. That would make week 18 a win and you’re in situation for them. Just saying, lock it up in Dallas last week and none of this matters. Do you really want to go into week 18 needing a win against the Giants hoping that they don’t have anything to play for? I don’t.

This Lane Johnson injury, UGH. Realistic he can be back for playoffs or long shot?
Sounds like they “hope” he is, and “playoffs” could mean by NFC Championship or SB, if they make it to those games.

Definitely won’t be back for a WC round on the road which is no longer out of the question with how the last 2 weeks have played out.

DAL plays TEN this week in a game that literally means nothing to TEN and they are likely to sit key players since the Week 18 game vs. JAX is now going to decide their division.

The Saints are still (barely) alive by beating CLE so they have something to play for this week.

every year , year after year seemingly, one of the top two teams in afc and nfc get punked and lose the first game out of the playoff bye. the eagles are my team that gets picked off by a hot playoff team this year. and theres no guarantee theyre even the top seed they have to win out to do this.

They only have to win one more game to lock up the 1 seed.

Please....even with Maddox and Johnson out this team isn't losing to both the Saints and the Giants. Giants host the Colts next week and are in with a win and then would have little to play for in week 18 other then MAYBE the 6 vs 7 seed. Saints are terrible. Both games are in Philly.
So while there's an easy to follow scenario where Eagles lose the top seed, it's not a very realistic scenario at all. Not to mention commanders might well be playing to get in week 18 when they meet the Cowboys at home.

I felt like Eagles were more likely to lose then win last week, but I think they blow out the Saints something like 35-13

I mean you are probably right. I'm just being pessimistic.

Saw this in a recent article by McClane:

Over (Lane) Johnson’s 10 seasons, the Eagles are 72-44-1 (.620) when he plays, and just 12-20 (.375) without him in the lineup.

Hope this happens like this, we could definitely use the rest and hopefully get some guys back for our 3rd game vs D***** this year.

Need to go hard this week and lock in the 1 seed and help our Saints draft pick position.
i would love to know if the "Hurts is pushing to play" is just smoke again, or if he has a legit chance to get out there. i think it would be great if he can play, get out and build a nice double digit lead and let the starters rest for the 4th Q.

I also hop they don't try to move Mailata to the right tackle and stick Dillard in at left tackle. might be a good option if Lane injury is likely to play into the post-season, but if not, i would rather keep Mailatta on the LT.

i also see Saints have a 3% chance of making the playoffs. would rather see them just tank and help the rest of the picks to move up a few slots, then try and fight to get in the playoffs at 3%

Yea even with the injuries they SHOULD beat the Saints. If they lose it would be a pretty big red flag obviously. I don't care that the Saints are going to try-hard because they still have a playoff shot. The Saints defense has been playing very well lately though, so the game could be closer then we think. They've held all opponents to 20 points or less for their last 6 games.

Following the win in CHI and DAL losing to JAX, needing to only win 1 of the last 3 (or DAL and SF both losing at least 1 of their last 3) seemed like it wouldn't be a problem. But since that moment:
  • Hurts injury
  • Maddox injury
  • Lane injury
  • Gave away a win to DAL with sloppy turnovers and questionable D
  • Saints won to stay in contention (and hurt our draft pick)
  • NYG lost on a last second FG missing a chance to clinch a playoff spot and possibly making their Week 18 game against the Eagles mean something
  • SF is riding their defense and feel-good-story Brock Purdy to wins
  • DAL next opponent has nothing to play for this week
  • CJGJ is unlikely to be back this week (eligible, but word is he's not completely healed/cleared)
Just an awful streak of things not going our way. What's the best thing to happen since that moment? Dallas Goedert came back? Cool, but he got less targets than Quez Watkins in a key game, so that didn't even give us a positive.

So, here we are that if we somehow lose to NO this week, there will be a mountain of pressure on this team. We will have gone from no-brainer #1 seed to having one last game to either barely hang on and get it, or have the dishonor of completing an epic collapse and limping into the playoffs as a wildcard team on the road.

But, win this NO game (while also avoiding more injuries since we have to go all out) and everyone breathes easier and there's a couple weeks to step back, reset, get healthy, and get ready for a home playoff game.

I'm not in full-on panic mode right now, but definitely lack the "Relax, we'll win this week or next, it's fine" confidence that many Eagles fans (surprisingly) have right now!

I will say I feel like this defense is going to have big ?? still against top QB's. Outside of the Minny game, we haven't faced any good QB's and had a great showing (granted there aren't a ton left in the NFC).

Deal with that in the weeks off. We play Dalton this week. Destroy him, rest up and get to studying.
