2022 Philadelphia Eagles - Leave Gannon in Arizona and let’s run through the NFC again in 2023. (2 Viewers)

I will say I feel like this defense is going to have big ?? still against top QB's. Outside of the Minny game, we haven't faced any good QB's and had a great showing (granted there aren't a ton left in the NFC).
Deal with that in the weeks off. We play Dalton this week. Destroy him, rest up and get to studying.
i do think there will be more wrinkles in the defense this week (not sure if Olave is playing or not), since there should not be any issue with Saints' weapons. one i think that may hurt the most is if they play Hill more and he scrambles from the QB position

Yea, not concerned about that this week. He did go off in a big way last time he played us, but that with a very different scheme and team (he doesn't have a Lamb, Gallup, Cooper trio now). More of a ?? when we get into the playoffs.

Yea even with the injuries they SHOULD beat the Saints. If they lose it would be a pretty big red flag obviously. I don't care that the Saints are going to try-hard because they still have a playoff shot. The Saints defense has been playing very well lately though, so the game could be closer then we think. They've held all opponents to 20 points or less for their last 6 games.
Following the win in CHI and DAL losing to JAX, needing to only win 1 of the last 3 (or DAL and SF both losing at least 1 of their last 3) seemed like it wouldn't be a problem. But since that moment:
  • Hurts injury
  • Maddox injury
  • Lane injury
  • Gave away a win to DAL with sloppy turnovers and questionable D
  • Saints won to stay in contention (and hurt our draft pick)
  • NYG lost on a last second FG missing a chance to clinch a playoff spot and possibly making their Week 18 game against the Eagles mean something
  • SF is riding their defense and feel-good-story Brock Purdy to wins
  • DAL next opponent has nothing to play for this week
  • CJGJ is unlikely to be back this week (eligible, but word is he's not completely healed/cleared)
Just an awful streak of things not going our way. What's the best thing to happen since that moment? Dallas Goedert came back? Cool, but he got less targets than Quez Watkins in a key game, so that didn't even give us a positive.

So, here we are that if we somehow lose to NO this week, there will be a mountain of pressure on this team. We will have gone from no-brainer #1 seed to having one last game to either barely hang on and get it, or have the dishonor of completing an epic collapse and limping into the playoffs as a wildcard team on the road.

But, win this NO game (while also avoiding more injuries since we have to go all out) and everyone breathes easier and there's a couple weeks to step back, reset, get healthy, and get ready for a home playoff game.

I'm not in full-on panic mode right now, but definitely lack the "Relax, we'll win this week or next, it's fine" confidence that many Eagles fans (surprisingly) have right now!
Same. I think we’ll win on Sunday. But I’m not taking it for granted

Pretty pissed about the injuries, but that's life sometimes. Hopefully Stout has a plan, which I'm sure he does. If we see Mailate move to RT, then we know Lane is done IMO. Holding out hope for the best. The Avonte injury actually sounds worse and I am not as optimistic on his return, at all. True bummer both players were playing great ball. Hopefully ERB can hold it down at S and we can get CJGJ into the slot to cover up the weaknesses. I have less faith in Josiah Scott than I do Kvon Wallace somehow, and I know a lot of people are online going "Cre'von LeBlanc!!" - not sure if he is in any shape at all or when he last played but man, things are looking much more intense all of a sudden. Hoping we can close out Saints this week and just get it over with haha.

i'd have to watch some of the games from earlier in the year, but if i remember correctly Josiah Scott had some good games. i think the 3rd and 30 haunts all of us, but i would be ok if they keep CJGJ at safety for this game. i mean, it is Andy Dalton. there really is no reason for the team to be worried about Dalton throwing all over them, and if he does then i have greatly over-estimated the capability of this team.

i don't know if Olave plays this game, but last week against the Brown Dalton completed 8 passes. He threw a few to Kamara, but the rest were to R. Shaheed (4), Juwain Johnson (2) and K. Kirkwood (2). Josiah Scott should be able to cover the 3rd guy out of that group, and if he can't then he is looking at a short career. I would anticipate that Slay and Bradberry should be able to easily lock down whoever they are on with single coverage, and our DL should be able to get pressure often

Saints suck. This would be a really bad loss. I don't see how it can happen. Even if we continue our turnover ways. We need to clean that up. Main thing holding us back. That and the crappy defensive calls

I’d go Minshew/Dilliard this week with the upside of another recovery week for Hurts and a higher replacement ceiling for a long term Lane injury. If it fails you fall back on Hurts and if necessary Driscoll vs NYG

This year is starting to feel more like a typical Philly we aren't allowed to have nice things season. 2017 felt that way too with Wentz and all the other injuries, which is what made their run so incredible. Maybe they can do it again, but my confidence is pretty damn low right now. I've lost track of how many seasons in all sports that looked great but some injury derailed it. Bah humbug.

No. Hurts coming back. The other injuries are not season ending. It's not over
Just beginning. Keep the faith bro

This nonsense talk of moving mailata to RT is ridiculous. Why would we hurt two positions? Dillard isn't that much better at LT than Driscoll is at RT. Mailata however is a beast at LT. Why disrupt that?

I thought Dillard is better at rt anyway. Put him there?

It's the NFL and Any given Sunday applies...but Eagles even with a few pieces missing and Misnhew at QB are a much much better team then the Saints. Playing at home I truly expect a blowout, but I don't GAS if they win by a single point. Just win baby

Agree. Driscoll is good not great. But Dillard at LT is a downgrade and Mailata at RT is also a downgrade. Our line depth and Stoutland are one of the reasons we are where we are. Keep the faith.

No, remember his rookie season they tried him at RT and he was dreadful. Going into the game he was talking himself down about how different and difficult it will be. Maybe he's grown, but why weaken two positions?

Scott is a liability straight up. Just that play alone. Look I don't know "a lot" Xs and Os but I trust the analysts and pretty much everyone is like "why would you not play it safe" at the same time, why did Gannon need to disguise what we were doing on friggin 3rd and 30. "Sticks Defense" would be OK in a situation like this. But, for the bolded, look, we need to get whatever our "playoff defense" is ready for the playoffs. I don't see, personally, Scott and/or Wallace being having to be relied upon, assuming the rest of the secondary remains healthy. I'm counting Maddox out TBH, and at least Ed Reed Blankenship has shown some upside, compared to these 2 guys. Gotta get the 5 best secondary guys we can on the field, and repped together too. Meaning if CJGJ can go this week, he should go, so they can get reps together.

Slay pretty much called Scott out on the 3rd and 30 play. When asked what happened he didn't name names but said something like"everyone has to do their job" and he wasn't referring to himself.

Lane is going to delay surgery and play in playoffs.

I am reminded of this...
Dude is tough as nails. Hope it works out!
Being tough as nails and being functional enough with that injury to block NFL pass rushers are two vastly different things.
True. But Lane at 80% is better than our other alternative at 100%. Especially if there's a way we can rotate them so he doesn't have to go a full game.

If we take care of business this weekend, then it means Lane will have had 29 days off to heal.

Keep in mind, he has a tear. It needs surgery to heal, so no amount of time is going to make it better on its own. All that the 29 days will give him is no risk of it getting worse until he has to play in a game and help any other dings he has from this season get better.

His level of play and tolerance for pain from this injury probably isn’t going to be much different than if he were going to try and play this week.

Fingers crossed that when he does got out there in the playoffs he’s able to be effective and go the whole game.

Hmmm... I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on that, but I was under the impression time off would help.

Lane’s injury seems to be in the same “sports hernia” category as what DeSean Jackson had in 2019. He tried to rehab, came back and played 4 snaps, then just had the surgery.

Since it’s OL vs WR, there’s probably a better chance to play through it, and maybe manage it better to prepare to play. But it’s no question requiring surgery, Lane is just delaying it.

No Hurts at practice today (it was a walkthrough), and the return to practice window has not been opened for CJGJ (today was first day he was eligible.)

Miles Sanders DNP (knee) and AJ Brown was limited (knee.)

i think they would have called it a hernia if that is what it is. it seemed to be discussed as a tear in the abdomen wall, which is what i had. wasn't fun for sure, but i had it for awhile without surgery. of course i wasn't blocking 260+ dudes at the time, so was a bit different

Mine was a "pelvic floor repair", where i had a tear in abdomen wall and it wasn't great. guy said it was similar to a hernia, but different, and he did the surgery on a few NHL players, and started to do it with other pro sports since it was relatively new

Right, a “sports hernia” is just the tear (that can occur while playing sports), and not the same as an Inguinal hernia, where part of the intestines poke through the tear.

Doctors call it "athletic pubalgia" rather than “sports hernia” like reporters and fans are used to saying because different tissues may be affected and a traditional Inguinal hernia usually isn’t involved, but can sometimes be.

More info from this article today:

If the Eagles clinch the NFC’s No. 1 playoff seed, Johnson basically would have four weeks to rest the injury. How beneficial would that rest be?

“You want to give the athlete the best chance to play through something like this,’’ said Dr. Jess Flynn, a Boston-based sports medicine physician and a contributor to the pro football website The 33rd Team. “It may get him to a point where walking around, he’s feeling pretty good. But more than likely, when he returns to play, he will have pain. So this will be a matter of trying to play through pain.

Johnson’s injury is what used to be called a sports hernia. Many players have played through the injury, with varying levels of success.

hmm, interesting enough he is seeing the same guy i went to when i got my "pelvic floor repair", Dr. William Meyers. they say it is a "torn adducter", which may have already been mentioned. only thing that is confusing to me is they say he is rehabbing for 2-3 weeks. i know there wasn't really any rehab i could do with my injury it was just figuring out timing when i wanted it done. it was after rugby season, so i had it for a bit. not a ton of fun, and you can feel it, but i guess i apparently played with it for a bit since it wasn't diagnosed right away.

have to think mine was definitely different. my guess is he will be in playoffs, question is how close to 100% he may be

ETA: hmm, i thought adducter was wrong but looked it up. there is an "abducter" which moves leg away from body, and the "adducter" seems to do the opposite. Maybe have Lane keep a wide stance all game and be all good?

Hurts getting the start would be deadly for fantasy. High chance he doesn't finish the game (big lead or reaggravates injury). In a superflex league and have Hurts, Minshew, Geno, and.... Russ lol

Just checking with any homers to make sure there are no question marks around the availability of Goedert this week? I have to pick between Schultz and Goedert for FF and Schultz plays tonight. Thanks

yeah, haven't heard any setbacks or anything. AJB is a bit banged up, and i have to think Devontae has a quieter game, so could be a big Goedert one

There's never gonna be another '17 like season. No one is ever doing it that way IMHO. We just got hot at the right time when other teams cooled off and got a bit of luck to go our way This doesn't discredit what that team accomplished but people need to stop thinking "well we did it in 17 why not this year?"

Reassuring perspective from Dr. Chao on Jalen Hurts’ injury.

I never pay attention to these videos. It's just all speculation from someone who's not in the room and has all the info needed. It's good for info for people who aren't well versed in that sort of thing and can learn a thing or 2 but guys like this aren't in the room and just solely using their best educated guess with the info they do have etc.

just saw a report that Jalen is at practice today. no details if he is simply walking around or what his participation level is, but would love him and AJ Brown to play Sunday and rst week 18

I don't think he plays. I think they start Minshew. No real reason to rush Hurts back when Minshew didn't play badly plus we're playing the Saints.

i hope he does. no reason to bring more pressure next week and cause additional stress. if he is throwing today and it had no setbacks it would be better to finally win the game, and let them rest for a few weeks, and prep for next opponent. let Gardner play next week against the Giants with whoever is healthy and can get some reps

1000%. I think Minshew should win against the saints but is not guaranteed. Hurts is guaranteed win. I’ve been saying since it was first announced hurts was injured. ****ing nightmare scenario is that you lose to Dallas and then lose to saints. Then you are in a must-win situation against a divisional opponent that might (if they lose this week) be playing for their playoff lives. Then you HAVE to start hurts. I’m the last week of the season. Eff that. If he can play, let him play. Lock it up. Take two weeks off everyone.

And then when he reaggravates it you'll blame the coaches

Nick Sirianni says no decision on Jalen Hurts or Gardner Minshew against the Saints on Sunday.

My take, he is limited again today and they list him as Questionable or Doubtful, but know he isn’t playing and want to keep the Saints guessing. He’s probably only cleared to start throwing, which allows them to get him on the practice field to play the guessing game.

We're playing the Saints We should be able to win with a back up QB. I personally don't care if we get the 1 seed or not just get in the playoffs healthy and win. If we can't beat the Saints with a back up we don't even deserve to be in the playoffs
