2023-2024 NBA Salary Cap Draft - SECOND Annual Battle for the Wikkid Cup - Preseason Rankings are In! (1 Viewer)

The last 1.5 rounds have been a lot more predicable (except... you know) than the 5 prior. Nearly every player in my price range (less than $20M or so) that has been picked was on my list of players to consider. A handful of them have been next on my list (Grant Williams, Max Strus, Al Horford, Rob Williams, Christian Braun). Good job guys. Really bumming me out though.

Don’t want to make anyone think they have to live in the thread - just check in every once in a while and send someone a list if you’re going to be out of pocket.

Well that and actively knowing that he's up but not doing anything about it. In a lot of these drafts, especially ones that are moving at a relatively easy pace like this one when picking an hour later probably makes little difference, a lot of people will see that they are up and aren't prepared to draft and just let themselves be skipped for a bit until they can catch up.

I don't want Pik to sandbag the rest of the draft and go on autoskip because that's no fun for all of us, but it's also not fair to have half of the people actively waiting on him.

I said previously weekdays East coast mid to late afternoons are very bad for me. Stuff constantly comes up. I take care of a handicap sister, and a freshman in high school who has vollyball all the time. Wife gets home at 3pm on top of that. I had a short list, people took all the guys. I am usually around and typically pick fast in drafts. At this point just leave me on autoskip, but of course I'll pick quick if I'm around.

How about a compromise of some sort. We @ you when you’re up (or someone can text if you prefer), and if you don’t respond in the next 30 minutes we skip?

why don’t me and all the piks trade draft spots the rest of the way? i have the turn, with 2 picks and the piks or 1 pik could make the picks quicker than pik or both piks are picking. i could then make my picks spread out and pik can pick quick.

I'm usually around. I check in at 3am most days ffs. It's it's the afternoon, and we are up and don't seem around, send me a text and skip. I'll pick asap. Same as always. No biggie. I have only held things up twice, and both times were only a couple of hours. Most days I pick hela fast. Stop picking my guys (and spotlighting) and my list should hold up.

Thanks for the offer but I think we’re good

7.02 - Dereck Lively II, C, DAL $4,775,628

Been holding off on him for 3 rounds now and am ecstatic to land him. If Dallas trusts him as their starter this season, then so do I. Guy has defensive and finishing potential galore and will help me with rim protection, rebounding and has a potential to put up good numbers starting with Luka and Kyrie.

He came off the bench and went toe to toe with Wemby in game 1 (16pts/10rbs in 30 min), then found himself out of the rotation after starting game 2 (9pts/2rbs in 17 min) and started game 3 but got in foul trouble and only had 2pts/6rbs in 14 minutes. I expect that roller coaster to continue this season, but with Portis on my roster already as his backup, I'm not concerned.

Damn it.
I thought you'd take him before it got back to me.

The thing is, I've seen every minute so far. So I love some of what he's got. Violent at the rim. Quick feet. But his bball IQ so far has been kinda terrible, as evidenced by the immediate foul trouble vs Memphis and the inability to not give up a basket every PnR against Brooklyn that kept him on the bench all second half.

He's supposed to be a floor-stretcher too, but haven't seen that element at all yet.

If this were a team I'd have for multiple seasons, I'd have grabbed him WAY earlier. I think he's got all the tools and by all accounts his attitude and work ethic are outstanding. But for just this season? I think he's a bit too raw.

I haven't seen a single minute of Dallas yet this year, so in no way is this a direct statement on Lively, but even in the best of years, there are maybe a half dozen rookies that truly contributors to winning basketball. Last year we probably had Walker Kessler, Jalen Williams, Keegan Murray, Christian Braun - Paolo Banchero and Bennedict Mathurin showed tons, but were negative players overall due to their volume/role/inefficiency. The year prior, Mobley, Barnes, and Wagner were positives. 2020 was kinda terrible initially, Haliburton, Ball, Bane were decent, everybody else was pretty rough. Rookies are generally bad NBA players, and only the transcendent ones are a huge positives (Lebron, Melo, Luka, Griffin, CP).

I dread making this pick because I don't like the player nor what he in particular has done to basketball. In my zeal for thriftiness I didn't get a lot of the upper end elite players. This guy is going to get his, so we'll see how he meshes with our lineup. Thankfully, we have a lot of team players so they will let him get his.

James Harden LAC PG/SG

I was gonna take him and hate myself and struggle to find 2 million dollar guys for the next 7 rounds. Thanks for saving me that pain.

I considered it on my last pick. But that would put me in the odd position to actively root against my own team.

7.13 - Naz Reid. This may be more of a real life pick than a fantasy pick, but I love his game and wish he wasn't the 42nd center on the Minnesota roster. My squad is going to have shooting from almost every position at all times. At least, that's the idea.

@the moops
You know we actually all rank and vote on these as basketball teams right? Real life picks encouraged lol.

C Ivica Zubac $10,933,333

Squad could use a good defensive rebounder guy. Not sure if Wemby is going to be most effective as a 4 or 5 yet (looks like the Spurs have used him both ways), so makes sense to grab a starter level center here. Zubac can grab boards on both ends and score effectively in the paint.
