2023-2024 NBA Salary Cap Draft - SECOND Annual Battle for the Wikkid Cup - Preseason Rankings are In! (2 Viewers)

7.16 Jaden Ivey G $7,614,480

He doesn't at all fit the mold of what I'm looking for (defense with complimentary offense), but he is something of a lottery ticket for me this late. He was the 5th pick last year, showed some flashes, and brings some athleticism to the team. He's off to a better start this year, albeit it in a much smaller role, but I think there is a possibility he will thrive in a more off-ball role this year and should be back into his starting role eventually. Not sure there is a higher upside pick left on the board.

I like it.

We've reached the point where every pick has at least some warts.

I looked at him, but didn't like that he is no longer starting and playing about 10 minutes less per game than last season. Still, he is off to a hot start shooting the ball and will likely be much more efficient in that role. Of course, he will probably get some starts with an injury or scheduled rest games.

Not to spotlight anybody, but the current starting guard alongside Cunningham is straight garbage. I think Ivey is as likely to be the replacement for him here soon as anybody else.

I can't think of the last Pistons game I watched and definitely wasn't looking closely at these two if I did watch them last year.

That said, looking at the stats (and even more so, the advanced stats) you are correct. Ivey is better across the board in every metric both last season and this year.

He's mostly coming off the bench because the new coach is emphasizing defense, and he's terrible at it. I'd guess that he'll be back in the starting role once he commits more to playing better D.

Sounds like a bonus to me. Hopefully Ivey gets motivated to play some D and this pick actually makes sense. Ivey does have the physical tools to be a good defender.

I’ll probably need to send a list for one or both of my son’s picks. I’ve got a flight in about an hour.

I'll have to bring my laptop to work tomorrow since they've blocked this forum and even basketball reference on the network :seriousbidness:
You still with BoA?
No. I’ve been with WF since 2017. They’ve been really cracking down on any way we could potentially leak our “best in class” secrets.
I've had a couple of dealings with WF about 8-10 years ago and was highly annoyed with them. Hopefully you've righted the ship since 2017.

Well you should be spending time on how to charge the consumer more fees rather than drafting.

At least you didn't draft Ben Simmons on company time, that would be a fireable offense.

They haven’t. This place sucks, but pays way out of line for what my function does.

I’ve been wishing for a layoff for at least a year. If it were this easy I would have traded up to the #1 to grab Ben.

Good morning nerds. I was going to send @Yo Mama a one-man list last night but it was for Zubac so we'd have been stuck regardless.

7.17 - Christian Wood - Big

$2,709,849

So far, so good for Wood and the Lakers. He's been effective playing alongside AD providing spacing on offense and another big body on defense.

Tried this last year. Thought about it again but no thanks

This was the top of my sons list

Nembhard was on my short list! Good pick.

7.20 Jonathan Kuminga ($6,012,840). Might still be a year or two early on this guy, as he just turned 21. Continuing to learn how to turn his insane athleticism into smart, productive basketball. The flashes are as enticing as ever, though, so I'll swing for the fences.

8.01 Lonnie Walker IV ($2,346,614). Had a solid season in 22-23, shooting 37% from deep on 7 attempts per 36. Was also a 76th-percentile perimeter defender according to bball index. :nerd: Nice, cheap rotation wing who should have a significant role in Brooklyn.

Son of @PIK95 is back up now!

8.04 - Coby White - G

$11,111,111

Combo guard who can energize the second unit and play alongside Edwards in a big backcourt in a similar way to the way he plays off LaVine in Chicago. White has decent size (7 footer counting hair :fro: ) can shoot from outside and play a little defense.

@Kev4029

8.05 Peyton Watson G/F
$2,303,520

I think by the playoffs, Watson will be the second guy off the bench in Denver. He's averaging 4.4 stocks per 36 and is scoring very efficiently, if in a bit low quantities. But that all sells his impact short, he has been ****ing everywhere on defense and is very big for a SF at 6'7" without shoots, over a 7' wing span (listed at 200, he's probably closer to 215 now), and a very plus athlete. He's a smart player who should thrive in a similar role here vs what he does in Denver. On top of all of that, he's cheap and I'm short on funds.
