2023-2024 NBA Salary Cap Draft - SECOND Annual Battle for the Wikkid Cup - Preseason Rankings are In! (5 Viewers)

Caustic $1.6m
There are only 7 guys left who fit for him. There are 20 draft pick before he picks again. What happens if there is nobody left for him? Redraft?
I think he’s safe now that almost everyone has 1 pick left with more cap available, unless everyone wants to leave a bunch of salary on the table to screw with him. It was definitely a risk when he originally made his picks though. I almost did the same thing with my son’s picks but decided not to risk it.

Well I am definitely picking one of those low salary guys. Because I can god dammint!

15.03 - Killian Hayes, DET, PG, $7,413,955

Probably one of the last starters available, especially for under $8 million. A good defender with some solid all-around skills, just hasn't shown that he can shoot. Still young and getting a lot of minutes, so hopefully he can show some improvement this year.

@trader jake is up.

Team Trader Jake
IND PF Jarace Walker $6.1 mil

Consensus 5-star recruit that hustled like a walk on playing with a top-ranked Houston team. Good all around prospect for the modern game.

On offense Walker has the ability to shoot from deep, has plus vision, and can handle the rock a bit. He could be a really food defensive player though with good size to hold his ground inside and quickness to defend outside.

Hyperbole alert: I'm a big Draymond Green fan (on the court) and it irritates me how many players are compared to him each draft cycle. Walker is the first prospect where it doesn't seem completely off base. 🤷 Only he can shoot without looking like he has on a backpack.

...

It's the last round, so let's go Steven A. Smith! Please read below in his voice.

"Walker's defense is special y'all!! It could reach a really high level if the pieces around him fall into place! ...AND his offensive game reminds me of a poor man's Larry Johnson too!" (spittle forms in corner of mouth) "...and YOU KNOW I don't play when it comes to my Knick-er-bockers!!! Oh yeah, I said it!!" (cue rebuttal citing how Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle hates playing rookies)

[end performance art take]

The 15th round - where Jarace Walker is the next Draymond + Grandmama hybrid. Love Walker's game and hopefully he can fulfill a portion of that promise in the NBA.

Yo Mama selects:

15.05 - Oshae Brissett - F, Celtics
$2,165,000

It’s no fluke that a guy named O’Shea ended up signing with Boston. Should eat up a few minutes, but more importantly eat up as much of my remaining cap as possible.

Only $21K left under the cap to go spend on a nice dinner out on the town.

Jalen Hood-Schifino - G, LAL - $3,695,076

I know he hasn't played a game yet in the NBA, but he did show some flashes in summer league, if that means anything. But let's be honest here. He's not going to sniff the floor most likely. His single most important duty on this team will be picking up donuts before practice, which I have been informed he is very qualified to do.

TEAM YO MAMA

PG - Fox, Pritchard, Smith Jr
SG - Bridges, Richardson, Livers
SF - Durant, Gordon, Brissett
PF - Draymond, Mann, J Walker
C - Valanciunas, M Williams, Kornet

Wouldn’t be shocked if Willams jumps into my starting lineup by end of the year. Gordon or Mann probably jump into my crunch time lineup instead of Valanciunas.

:headbang:

You ****!

I think I may take McCollum anyway. Everything I've seen says it happened a few years ago and was a 3-week injury. Just weird that it's happened to him twice. His shooting, ball handling, etc are all so perfect for my team.

PG- J Brunson, D Melton, M Flynn
SG- D DeRozan, A Dosunma D DiVencenzo, J Hood-Schifio
SF - S Barnes, I Okoro
PF- L Markkanen, S Venekof, J Sims
C- J Allen. M. Robinson, J McGee

I'm a little guard heavy, but with Markkanen and Barnes both really 3-4's, my forwards aren't as thin as they look. DeRozan is 2-3 as well.

I'm the opposite. I really only have like 3 real guards, but a bunch of 3-4's.

PIK95 takes DeAndre Jordan -Denver
With the Robert Williams injury I could use a backup center. There is another guy I was gonna take where I love the upside, but DeAndre Jordan will actually be a perfect fit for my squad at this point.

PG- M Fultz, Tre Jones, K Hayes
SG- J Williams, M Beasley, N Alexander-Walker
SF- M Porter, Y Watanabe, J Jaquez
PF- L James, I Stewart
C- J Jackson, D Saric, C Bassey

Pretty balanced squad. A little short on shooting at PG, but all three are good all-around players. And if I need more shooting, can always go without a true PG and let LeBron run wild with 4 shooters around him.

I didn't think anybody was going to take him because he's terrible... Great ****ing teammate though and really sets the positive vibes for the Nuggets. I'm convinced he's going to be a head coach in the next 10 years.

According to the ever-reliable Basketball Reference position estimate (which in all honesty, I think is probably spot on in this case), in the last five seasons, DeRozan has played 0% of his time at shooting guard and 52% of his time at power forward. Where it is probably a bit wonky is it says he played 8% of his minutes at center a couple seasons ago (and 2% total in the last 5 seasons). I'm guessing those were minutes with either Derrick Jones Jr or Patrick Williams at nominal center, but their algorithm got funky.

Some of you are leaving some juicy $ left unspent.

Least remaining so far:
Yo Mama - $21,306
FatMax - $32,373
Scoobus - $85,734

Most remaining so far:
Instinctive - $5,054,802
Pik95 - $4,769,094
Jayrod - $2,464,450

TEAM JAYROD

Starters:
PG/SG Maxey - May be the steal of the first round at pick #19 and only costing $4.3M. He is off to a torrid start averaging 25.5/7.3/4.5 and shooting 44% from 3. He's a lock to be an All-star at this pace and could be in discussions for all-NBA.
SG/PG Brogdon - The steady hand to Maxey's flashiness, Brogdon is a fantastic shooter from 3 to keep defenses honest and is averaging 19/6.1/5.3 so far. He's an average defender, but has size to offset Maxey's smallness in matchups. Hoping he gets traded in real life to land a FT starting spot.
SF/PF Wagner - My glue guy, he is the next best thing to do-everything Mikal Bridges. Can guard anyone 2-4, score efficiently without hogging the ball and even initiate the offense if needed.
SF/PF Butler - Jimmy is on a mission to "finish the job" from last season. He'll be a All-D candidate if he plays enough games to qualify and will be my go-to guy to pair with Maxey when needed, but be smart enough to lay back and let the others cook if they are playing well. Can initiate offense, play off the ball, terrorize the glass or lockdown the opponent.
C Lively or Nurkic - Early in the season, who starts will be dependent on matchups, but Lively will likely land the gig full time after a while if he can settle into the NBA game and his role. Nurkic can stretch the defense a little more and has been a very good rebounder in his career, but Lively brings energy and shot blocking to the back end of the defense.

2nd Unit/Primary Bench:
C - Nurkic or Lively - (see above)
SG/SF - Herro - My 6th man will push to average around 18 ppg in 25 mpg leading the 2nd unit. Not relying on him for defense, but he's a walking bucket. Averaging 25.3 ppg for the Heat and shooting 41% from 3.
PF/C Portis - Bobby will give us the ability to go to a double big lineup if needed with Lively or Nurkic or play small ball as the C. Can be a liability on defense, but stretches the floor.
SF/SG LeVert - more guard like and can handle the ball for short periods and run the offense with Herro if Maxey & Brogdon are both out. He's an average defender and a plus on offense and should get 15-16 mpg.

Bench Depth:
These 3 guys are all pretty similar. Plus defenders on the wing with OK offensive ability. Will get minutes based on performance for me from 5-10 mpg. All are playing 20-30 mpg in real life right now.
SF/PF Ziaire Williams
SF/PF Derrick Jones Jr
PF/SF Toumani Camara

Deep Bench:
Will only see the floor when the game is over.
C/PF Nick Richards
PF/C Jake LaRavia
PF/SF Kobe Brown

No wonder he had over $2M left over.

Looks at Frosty’s $10m of money to spend, thinks he’s going to have lots to choose from, looks at list, yikes.

He can still swat and dunk which was Rob Williams role. Won't need him every game with our four out offense, but when we have to D up and rim protect for a possession at the end of the game, you could do alot worse.

Yeah I mean the injury made me worry and have to spin to pick up enough cash for LaVine...but then the injury didnt seem too bad. I mean I'd like swap a couple cheapos for a guy like Exum or other $3M-ish guys...means nothing to team performance.

Don't want to give it away, but if Rob didn't hurt his knee, I had a guy I would have spent almost all of it. Oh well. I like the squad for having a late pick in the first fwiw.

I didn't make it very clear, I would have taken him. I don't think it was a bad pick but he is terrible. He's ****ing massive (maybe the biggest calves in the NBA) and still has good instincts so he doesn't make many dumb mistakes, so he's fine as the 15th guy on the court. But, I would draft him specifically because he's a cool ****ing dude with the intent of rarely if ever playing him.
