2023-2024 NBA Salary Cap Draft - SECOND Annual Battle for the Wikkid Cup - Preseason Rankings are In! (3 Viewers)

The Hornets suck, but Brandon Miller has looked good through three games. 17.3 ppg so far (more than Wemby!) getting to the rim and from the arc. I think he will be good on defense, like what I've seen there.

Brandon Miller Wing $10,880,364

He's proven himself to be a great facilitator, or abettor if he's off the court.

6.08 - Malik Monk - I don’t know how he rates fantasy wise but he gives my squad a high end third guard with swagger. I’m on my phone but I’ll enter it in the spreadsheet tomorrow.

my life is falling apart so I probably won't be around to pick after nysl2 tomorrow morning. After he picks i'll take

If he takes that guy Moops or Scoobus or one of these nerds should have my number or know someone who does.

6.11 Frosty takes Josh Okogie $2,815,937

6.12 Scoobus takes Fred VanVleet, $40,806,300

@Instinctive
Scoobs writeup on FVV:

Kinda pricey now, but he's such a perfect fit for my team. Has no problem playing off ball next to Cade while still being able to create, and then can seamlessly run the team when Cade's on the bench. A guy that can bury it from deep on good volume, and also play quality defense.

Okogie was on my list too, although I knew he was unlikely to last until the next turn. He's quietly been a non-horrible 3P shooter so far this year, which would be a big development.

I thought hard about FVV, but felt like he was too short to pair with Maxey. Cade is 6'6" so you can put him on the bigger guards and let FVV take that pure PG role. That is a high price to pay for him, though.

I didn't get a chance to talk about Harrison Barnes - but first, my next three picks on my board after my last pick were Grant Williams (good defender and shooter), Max Strus (adequate defender and complementary offensive player), and Christian Braun (a complete defensive menace). But with Barnes I get the best offensive player of the bunch - since coming to SacTown, he has quietly become one of the most efficient tertiary players in the NBA. His last three seasons he has had a TS% between .623 and .632 because everything he shoots is either a three (nearly half of his shots in the high 30s), at the rim, or at the free throw line (with a FT rate of nearly .500 and shoots in the mid-80s). Offensively, his fit is seamless. Defensively, he spends a lot of time on the better wing but he is more adequate in that role than stellar. He also rebounds the ball like a guard, but Carter and Doncic help there.

PG: Steph Curry
SG: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
SF: Luka Doncic
PF: Harrison Barnes
C: Wendell Carter Jr.

6th: Trey Murphy

Scoob had so much money and there are very few high end two way players left, so the salary is almost a non-issue for him.

Barnes is a great fit with Luka & Curry. Feels like he's been in the league forever.

I am in fact going to take Ben Simmons. After sweating out a round post being spotlit, I had to try and downplay how great he looks this year. He's also a fantastic fit for the team I'm building, especially with all the spacing we have to let him play dunker spot in the half court.

I really wanted to wait another round, but two teams have 2 shots at him between now and my next pick that I think may take, and I learned my lesson waiting on Anthony Davis last year.

I didn't intend to spotlight because I thought there was no ****ing way he would get drafted. So sorry, I guess?

Oh my.

FYI - I’m going to be traveling for work tomorrow and Thursday. I’m going to try to keep up on the down low during my conference, but I’ll do my best to send lists for my (and my sons) picks if I’m getting close and I need to be off my phone for any stretch.

Yeah, I almost took Ben Simmons last pick. I was hoping he would come back. Seeing his name being hammered in the thread, I figured I had no shot. He would have been a good fit I think.

Give me Xavier Tillman Memphis please.

Rats, Tillman was on my short list.

@FatMax

I just got out of my mandatory annual harassment training. Two hours of hell. I'm sure you've all been there.

Anyway, give me a few minutes to catch up. Pick coming shortly

So, with Brunson as my starting PG, I need a guy to back him that is a good defender. Pesky, ball-stealing type of dude with a very good 3pt shooter. For that, I present:

De'Anthony Melton - PG/SG, Philly, $8,000,000

Also on my short list

Time for some bargain shopping. Yo Mama selects:

6.16 - Eric Gordon - G, Suns
$3,196,448

He’ll fill the same roll on my team that he does for the Suns - flamethrower off the bench and can fill in for the starters as needed. One of the best minimum contract signings of the offseason.

Team Trader Jake
NOP PG Jose Alvarado $1.8 mil

"Grand Theft Alvarado" is bench depth here at the right price.

Alvarado can competently run the point on offense and improved his shot last year. Where he really shines is on defense though. He's an absolute terror that never stops. Just a joy to watch compete.
