Doris Burke is so far and away the best color commentator in the NBA. Entertaining, intelligent, well informed, fair... Love her.
Big fan. Very knowledgeable. On a network that employs a bunch of carnival barkers during their daytime programming she is refreshing to hear from.
That might be why I may overrate her in some people's opinions. She actually watches the NBA unlike the vast majority of the people on ESPN. And I'm so happy she is the #1 at ESPN after having to listen to JVG and Mark Jackson through the playoffs last year.

Generally, I think the women are significantly better at ESPN than the men across all of their programing. Which may be damning with faint praise, but that is something of an accomplishment for ESPN. They hire very qualified women but neanderthals for most of the men.

Having Perkins talk after we just listened to her is really driving my whole post home. Perkins is like a dumber, uncharismatic version of Shaq and Barkley who somehow manages to watch less basketball. I don't necessarily value Barkley and Shaq's NBA opinions, but they're enjoyable personalities that play well with the rest of the team to create a fun and occasionally informational show.

Yeah. I'm not sure if Doris is really good, but she isn't saying consistently stupid stuff like the bold. That is about where ESPN has set the bar for color commentators and she easily clears it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Hubie Brown is the best color commentator for NBA basketball, possibly of all time. No offense to Doris but she's not even close.
Hubie Brown used to be. Guy is 90 and has completely lost it

Yeah, she's no Mark Jackson .
Thankfully. It's one thing for someone to be below average and keep their baseball radio job for a long time. It's a whole other thing to be as bad as Mark Jackson was, on national television, and stick around. It's mind boggling how long he was employed as part of the NBAs #1 TV crew. He may be the least effective NBA TV announcer of all-time. *

* Even Magic Johnson was better, and he was pretty bad.

I wouldn’t say “completely lost it” but it’s hard listening to him now and he’s slowed down considerably.

Jackson is the Booger McFarland of the NBA. Still amazed that guy has a job but at least he's a likable dummy. I downright loathe Jackson.

That is just mean to Booger.

I can't believe we are bagging on a 90 year old commentator. If Lebron doesn't retire in the next year or two it is going to be brutal in here.

Does he have a job? He went to the Knicks broadcast but I thought he got fired from that.

I don't know about Jackson. I was referring to Booger still being employed.

Just saw this crazy stat:

Joel Embiid is averaging a whopping 35 points per game despite sitting out the 4th quarter in 11 out of 30 games he's played 🤯

He's on pace to be the first player to average more points (35.1) than minutes (34.1) since Wilt Chamberlain in 1962.

His mid range jumper is automatic right now. I think this may be the year that Philly puts together a big run in the playoffs.

Did the 65 game rule start this year? Hopefully Embiid doesn't miss much more time this year.

I have never looked looked into his games played stats before.

Wow, guy has only played in over 65 games twice in his 7 year career and never more than 68. He is on pace for 62 games this season.

You left off the first two years of his career he missed due to injury.

Embiid is so worried about personal glory, I wouldn't put it past him to go into a game and come out after a couple minutes just to get a game played.

Gotta play more than 20 minutes for it to count as a game played. Although i think there are two games where you can play less and still count

He literally said he doesn’t care about how many games he plays ( just wants to be healthy for playoffs.

He's so full of it. In a game a few weeks ago he twisted his ankle and stayed in to get his 30 points and 10 rebounds to keep his streak alive and then missed the next few games because of the ankle. He knows what streaks he has going, he'll get to 65 games on the nose this year, you can book it.

Sengun with another pedestrian 35/15/5 type game. He doesn't get the national press but he's easily one of the best young players in the game and the engine of this Rockets team. It would be a shame if doesn't make the All-Star team.

He wasn't really their pick. They drafted Sengun for Houston and were stock piling draft picks. Not sure who they would have drafted if Houston wasn't giving them 2 1sts to move up.

Jamal Murray has been snubbed for years so Sengun may have to wait his turn

Unimpressed when I saw him play against Philly last week.

Yeah, against Embid he had fairly ho hum day with 20/10/5. He's not at Jokic levels yet, just give him time.

He has put up some good numbers, but there aren't many reserve spots to go around. He currently ranks T-12 in VORP . . . but there are multiple other centers in the Western Conference above him (Jokic, Sabonis, and Davis). He also ranks 14th in the league in PER (with the same guys above him in the rankings). He's a little farther down in WS/48 (31st . . . 8th ranked center in the West). Just a lot of competition and some solid centers in the league.

Good points. I prefer him to Sabonis but I'm definitely biased. Something to be said about being the best player and nucleus of team. The Rockets have also performed much better than most were expecting.

His other issue (besides the guys I already mentioned) will be that fans will want to see Chet and Wemby. Going to be tough to nail down an All Star spot this year and in the future.

Damn, you're shutting down any hope I had that he'd be an All-Star soon. I'm going to need to put you on ignore.

If he continues to develop, then he should stand a decent chance (especially if the Rockets win total keeps going up). He's still really young (21) and his totals have improved each year.

Good point about his age. He's grown 2 inches since he's been in the league. Crazy that he could get taller.

My 12 would be

SGA, Luka, Kawhi, Lebron, Jokic, AD, Curry, Durant, Fox, PG, Booker, Ant

Of those 12 who would you put Sengun over? There’s also other guys (Gobert, Sabonis, KAT, Markkanen, Chet, Harden, Kyrie, Murray, Ingram) who have perhaps just as good of cases

Doesn’t it seem like the Cavs are being overlooked? Currently on a 7 game streak even with key players out. I guess you have to prove it in the playoffs first.
