Seems fine. I wouldn't call $27M/year a bargain, but with the cap going up it shouldn't look horrible. Nets have pretty much accomplished their two major FA goals at this point (retain Cam and get out of the tax).

Def a bit of an overpay but I think Cam has upside. Nets just couldnt afford to let him walk. Still have trade exemptions and picks to deal....they have their #2 in Bridges, #3 in Cam and just need to find a disgruntled star to come lead them - zero confidence in Ben...hes an expiring chip after this season.

They were already at or very near the floor pre-draft plus the picks per my math. They should be using that space to take on contracts for assets, not Kuzma.

They were already at or very near the floor pre-draft plus the picks per my math. They should be using that space to take on contracts for assets, not Kuzma.

I might be reading this wrong, but I think they are at like $117 before kuzma, so they still have a bit to go. Sure it would be a good idea to get some dumped contract but I still would guess that winger knows what’s out there and has a reasonable plan. But that’s just my semi-educated guess

I had it in my head the floor was $113mm, but it is actually $122mm. IDK, just seems very foolish to ink a $25mm/year deal when you're trying to tank.
 
The Pistons roster has 8 guards and 4 guys that can only play center or old school power forward. I liked the Troy Weaver hire a few years ago, but he has got to go now.

He's signing him to trade him later for picks. Same with Jordan Poole. One or both will be gone later this year or next. They are good assets to have. Kuzma's numbers are slightly better than Jerami Grant's, but Kuzma if I read correctly has a contract for $5M less AAV. He rebounds and can hit 3s. Poole is definitely gonna put up numbers for no other reason than he's gonna have the ball in his hands. And if you get stuck with either it's not destructive to a rebuild (like paying Beal $45M/year was). Owner Leonsis should be thrilled they will be under the salary cap for 3-4 years during the process. GM got a ton of trade exception money this offseason, which he will use if they ever get relevant. With the trade of Morris I would assume the Wiz are done until the trade deadline except for cutting Gallinari.

A buddy who inexplicably watches the morning sports talk shows told me that Perkins is on Stephen A's show all the time, so I would say it is likely that Stephen A went to bat for him so he didn't get the axe. From what I have seen, Perkins seems like a nice enough guy, but he is an atrocious analyst on television.
 
Thinking about that Bruce brown deal a little more, it is a little surprising that he would take that over staying in Denver, assuming there were no better offers.

It definitely has better upside between the potential for next year’s salary and the potential for a bigger role so that he could show off more and get paid more later, but he basically chose a guaranteed $22 million over a guaranteed $16 million to stay.

Maybe he didn’t trust the kroenkes to make things right down the line. (I probably wouldn’t.)

That is some very wishful thinking about Poole and Kuzma. I like gambling on Poole, but he has to have at least a year and more likely 2 years of solid play before someone will take that deal and the cap has to go up. If someone wanted Kuzma they would have just signed him not let the Wizards sign him and trade assets for him 6 months later.

Both those guys will have to significantly up their efficiency to be valuable trade assets on those contracts.

That is a risky move as there is not always a market for these guys on expensive contracts. It's not a bad contract for Kuzma (IMO) in the abstract, so maybe there will be some market.

It's going to be a multi-year tanking effort for the Wizards and I just don't think adding a 4 year contract at that level is helping it at all. Seems like something the Hornets would do.
