Which team would move to the East? Memphis?
Minnesota?
I hope they eliminate divisions and just go with conferences.

Move MEM and MIN to the east. Or MEM and NOP.
Divisions are definitely dumb

They only need to move one city to the east, not two

Minneapolis is west of both Memphis and NOLA.
That's right, just one team.

I was just thinking that Minneapolis is close to CHI and MIL and not close to any western conference team. MEM is at least somewhat close to New Orleans and the Texas teams

Yeah, good point on Memphis proximity to Dallas and Houston. James Harden could have told us the flight distance of any NBA city to Houston……or Tampa……or Montreal…..

LOL

Pre-draft trades

Prior to the day of the draft, the following trades were made and resulted in exchanges of future draft picks between the teams, along with a particular agreement in the expansion draft.

Jabbar left unprotected?

Wow

Pretty sure he was about to retire or close. Would've been funny to see him hang it up in a Magic jersey though.

I’ll homer up here and say I’m gonna pound that Magic over. They won 34 games last year despite starting 5-20 when everybody was hurt. I think they hit 40 wins.

Also like the Buckmigos over and Suns under.

Rockets down? Imagine it's in the 32-33 range (definitely above the sh*tty Spurs).

I may take a friendly wager that the Rockets beat the Magic's number. May not be the smartest bet in the West though.

why skipping so many teams?

I know its only summer league, but nuggets may have something with Tyson , Pickett, and strawther.

Tyson may become part of the rotation soon if he keeps this up.

If I was a betting man, I'd take the under on the Suns, Cavs, Warriors, Lakers, Grizzlies, and Mavs. Over on the Kings, Thunder, and Jazz.

Some teams were left off because of potential trades. Sixers, Clippers, Blazers, Heat.

I was definitely thinking about the Jazz over on paper, but it's a little tricky because they probably have as little incentive to get wins this year as anyone in the West, so they may get dragged down at the end by rationally improving lottery odds. But it is kind of a jarring number for a team that is definitely capable in the regular season, even without Paul Reed.

@wojespn
with the latest on Jaylen Brown's extension with the Celtics, which could be worth up to $304 million

The largest contract in NBA history with the final year being worth 70 million.

Imagine how much more he would get if he could dribble.

Shams: Suns have traded Cameron Payne to the Spurs along with a future second-round pick and cash in exchange for a future second-round pick, and they traded three second-round picks for a pick swap with the Magic in 2026.

nuggets signed jay huff... I'm not familiar with him at all.
He was with the Lakers for a while (two-way and G League) and did really well for their G League team. Did well on the Lakers summer league team a couple years ago. Good rebounder and shot blocker. I think I saw he was G League defender of the year this past year for the Wizards.

Who's the point guard for them Suns?
Beal
You gotta be joking. His turnover ratio in the 4th quarter is like infinity +1. His reaction to double teams is something out of 12 and under AAU. He's gotta be off ball, where he has a good game.

The Suns have A LOT of new governor energy. That team may lead in talent, but they're not winning it all with that squad. Too many redundant pieces.

Come on, he can dribble with his right hand.

Sabrina Ionescu in the WNBA 3-pt contest. My god. She missed 2 shots. We need a WNBA thread. Hell, SHE needs a thread.
It's awesome. I'm kinda surprised nobody has made all of them though. We know many of them can in practice. Heck Gilbert Arenas made 95/100 against Nick Young to win $100k in practice. Also made 73/100 one handed in practice to win $20k from Stevenson. And there are far far better shooters in the NBA than Arenas.
Best ever in the NBA contest was Craig Hodges with 21/25.

The format and time constraint (let alone additional pressure) make the 3 point contests more difficult than shooting in rhythm with someone feeding you passes in practice.
She's a hopper. Much easier and quicker to get that rhythm and balance on one sound.

Wow. Seems like a really bad idea.

Traditional PG is overvalued. They got 3 or more guys that can bring it up an initiate. They'll just let the guy with the weakest defender, or the guy they're not worried about saving, bring it up. Probably won't be a problem most of the time.

I had the same reaction. He was almost a Buddy Hield/Jaylen Brown level ball handler when he was younger. I know he’s improved, but to have him as even the nominal PG on this team is going to be rough.

Will be in crunch time.

I agree that traditional PG is overvalued. Can any of Beal, Booker, and Durant effectively bring the ball up the court and initiate the offense? I think the answer is obviously yes for all three. If they play against an opponent with a great defensive player trying to make it hard on any one of them to do that, they'll just have one of the others do it.

Embiid throwing out an "in Philly or somewhere else" line regarding winning a championship hopefully puts the team on notice of how important this season is.
Dame, Jimmy, Embiid is going to be epic in Miami.
What about Bam? You know the Heat would refuse to include Bam in any deal for Embiid.
Bam's great and all, but depending on the details it would take to make that happen...no way I would hesitate to take Embiid over Bam.

Embiid is an MVP candidate. Bam is a borderline all-star.

The modern NBA PG isn't so much needed to bring the ball up the floor as much as get the team into the proper set and initiate the offense. That's where guys like LeBron, Jokic, Doncic, etc. have thrived as point-forward/point-center type players. The guy that gets the offensive moving effectively from the middle of the floor.

The Suns have no one to do that. You have 3 guys to get the ball to and are elite at scoring/finishing the offense, but no one to tell Booker to clear out for Durant and get him the ball in his spot and vice versa. And now they have a new coach as well.

Suns are not getting out of the West as currently constructed.

And while you can get away with not having "that guy" throughout the regular season, it becomes most critical in the playoffs.

As much as I love the Celtics, see them for a prime example of an uber-talented team without the initiator. Smart was improving at that, but he was nowhere near good enough to win it all. I thought his defense would be enough to make up for his offensive lack, but it was not so.

I was just joking about what the Heat is reportedly putting on the table for Lillard and who they’re not willing to trade. Sixers should be happy with Jovic plus Robinson and a 2030 swap for Embiid.

I think with an offense like GS it might be more important where thaye are going to be running somebody off multiple screens and looking for slips and cuts. PHX feels more like a "you go, I go" type offense where theyare just going to space out and let one of their three scorers work. All these guys have been running that type of stuff since their AAU days. I may be wrong, but if I'm the PHX coach it is pretty low on my list of concerns.

Do you know when the new rules kick in? Are they restricted to only taking 110% back being over the first apron?
