He knows they will take a huge step back next year with guys leaving and his poor recruiting. I think he will be either at Bama or Michigan next year.

I really hope he stays at Washington though, we owe him a few beatdowns. Even with Washington winning 3 straight (by 9 total points) Oregon has still won 15 of the last 20.

True, it most likely a combination of Alabama and Saban. DeBoer would do very well with all that talent they currently have assuming there is not a mass portal. I don't think he will recruit as well or near as well as Saban but kids will still want to be at Bama.

Probably not the best answer to your question, but Saban's first year at Bama was 2007. That same year, before his first game, the NFL selected 3 players in the draft from Alabama. None in the first 3 rounds. 2008 NFL draft after Saban's first year coaching - ZERO - players selected in the NFL draft. At all. In any round. Wow! Cupboards had to have been bare.

Moreover, you have to go all the way back to 2000 NFL draft to find an Alabama player taken in the 1st round and there were two of them - Chris Samuels and Shaun Alexander.

Once Saban got cooking, he put a player in the 1st round of every single NFL draft from 2009 until present. Multiple players picked in the 1st and 2nd rounds. The guy was an NFL player making factory.

So did Bama recruit itself prior to Saban? I can't answer that but they sure as hell weren't churning guys out in the first 2 rounds of the draft prior to his arrival.

My top choice was Lanning. He is young, he learned under Saban and Smart, and he's familiar with the territory. I think he's going to be a great coach where ever he is.

Lane grew on me during his time at Alabama. He is a fantastic offensive mind, but he feels a little "loosey goosey" to be the head man. He's also young even though he's been in the game for years. If we are going for a former assistant/offensive genius, I'd rather have Sark. Not sure it makes sense for him to leave Texas for Alabama.

Do not want Dabo. I loved him as a player and his early Clemson career but his stance on the NIL and transfer portal make him a relic. He's also very much a CEO head coach who is dependent on his assistants.

It is certainly possible that Michigan hires outside the program if Harbaugh leaves. But I'd be quite surprised. I reckon it will take about 30 minutes to promote Sherrone Moore.

To those parents, Saban is a jerk and unless their kid really wanted to go there, would probably steer him somewhere else. They're still in the mourning/shock stage, it seems. Honestly I can't take listening to that stuff for too long, so I'm not listening to too much of the analysis. There was a lot of disbelief evident - which I find pretty funny - Saban is no spring chicken. I'm happy for the guy - an incredible body of work and a clean exit.

Funny enough I can listen to financial stuff all day long, so this isn't casting stones.

He's the most underrated, under appreciated coach in football. The keystrokes used on Saban, Belichick, Harbaugh et al outpace Carroll 10 to 1 at least.

He is one of three to win a Natty and a Super Bowl. That is rare air.

If we are going for a former assistant/offensive genius, I'd rather have Sark. Not sure it makes sense for him to leave Texas for Alabama.

Do not want Dabo. I loved him as a player and his early Clemson career but his stance on the NIL and transfer portal make him a relic. He's also very much a CEO head coach who is dependent on his assistants.

DeBoer would be interesting but I just honestly don't know much about him. I'm not sure how James Franklin's name came up in this.

The AD has put enormous pressure on himself by saying he would name someone within 72 hours. If he thought Lanning was a lock, this thing could spiral badly.

Sark and Lane are the same age. Sark just acts a little more his age. Lane seems to be having fun - he's terrific on Twitter. Both are terrific offensive minds.

Just feels like Lane is more "gettable" than Sark. Especially with what Sark just did at Texas (which is much a football royalty program as Bama historically, though not as much recently until now).

Also, Sarkisian has a WAY better job now than Kiffin.

When Matt Rhule is out-right quoting how much you have to pay to bring in a transfer QB at press conferences and Alabama is sending out NIL fundraising requests when they lose, it's hard to believe that FSU did something to deserve to be singled out. The NCAA is a joke.

Been a whirlwind few days, and I've been talking with people 'connected' to the Bama program or College world...and been reflecting on a wild ride. A few thoughts:

- little prep was done, as the timing was a surprise and also not ideal
- don't believe much you hear re coaches of interest...so much of that is agent/Sexton driven
- following Saban is definitely a (negative) factor

Above all though, it's been great to hear and read so much sentiment about the impact he made to the team, program, players, fans and community...the mold was broken.
