As someone who enjoys watching entertaining TV about my team, I'm happy

But as someone who prefers that my team get a distraction free (or as close as they can get) TC prior to a very important season.......I hate it.

I knew they'd be the pick if nobody else volunteered. On the bright side, they did have a team golf outing at my club last year (and Saleh and others came over to play a few other times) so we might get on TV. So that's cool, I guess.

Q finally gets his extension, as we all assumed he eventually would.

4 for $96M with $66M guaranteed.

I think we all assumed it would settle somewhere in the 20-25M/yr range. And based on what some other guys got (Simmons, Dexter Lawrence, Payne, Hargrave) it seemed likely to be closer to $25M

Big check to write, he's become an elite player and that's where the market is. Glad its done and wont be a point of contention when the Hard Knocks cameras start rolling on Monday.

This one had to get done - not only does Q make the D elite but the Jets havent locked up a 1st rd pick after rookie deal since - gulp - Mo Wilkerson!

Looks like Becton is really struggling again

2 years out of football and its the first day in pads, so nothing to lose your mind over. But still dissapointing. Apparently he gave up like 3 sacks today.

The day started pretty crappy with Becton needing a rest after 1 day in pads.

But between the Rodgers contract and the G.Wilson/Sauce Hard Knocks teaser, I'm going to bed happy.

I commented in the other thread that I love the words "two years" and "Rodgers" separated by "signs for" and ends with "The Jets."

Awesome awesome awesome.

Obviously not gonna jump to any major conclusions based on the HOF game. But.....

- Pretty easy to see what they saw in McDonald. His athleticism really pops and its easy to project what he could be with a little bit of extra weight and a year or 2 of coaching as a pure edge. And he better be REALLY good because.....

- Bryce Huff basically gives them the exact same thing in the pass rush but without the price of a top 15 pick. Wouldn't be shocked if he plays a TON his pre-season as they try to showcase him for a trade. He's redundant with the early picks they just spent on Jermaine Johnson and McDonald (and to a lesser extent Clemmons). No idea what they can get. I do wonder if its worth sending him away for a 5th rounder. At that point, I think you just keep him as insurance and let him walk in free agency (maybe collecting a compensatory pick)

- Cool that Tippman played basically the whole game. Didn't notice him much, which is a good thing for a center I guess.

- one nice throw by Zach, but not making any judgements based on who he was playing against. I saw the same guy, Maybe the next few weeks show otherwise.

- Becton looked fine when he played but of course....he had to come off early "due to the turf". Obviously no point pushing him to hurt himself, but if his knee is gonna be a problem forever, paying him to play 8 games a year at Metlife (some of the worst turf in the league) is a bad investment.

even the one nice throw was a better catch than it was a pass - although it was a nice throw. Otherwise he looked horrible. On the first drive, on 3rd and 5 he should have easily run for a first down but fell down and curled up in a ball for some reason. His accuracy was laughably bad agaist a bunch of scrubs - I'm really not sure he should enter the season as the top backup. Obviously the team is in trouble, no matter what, if Rodgers goes down, but Wilson will absolutely destroy all the effort that went into building this team.

I think Collinsworth made a good point that on that 3rd down play on the first drive that he at least didn't try to chuck it into triple coverage like he would have last year. But that's about the most positive one could take. To be fair, it was a limited sample size in the first game, but I agree this team is in huge trouble if anything happens to Rodgers. I think that Boyle might be a better backup option at this point.

Yeah I chuckled at that "analysis". "he did something really dumb but at least he didn't do something really really dumb".

I get it was a small sample size so don't want to totally bury him - but I saw no improvement at all over what he's done.

I honestly just dont see the point of investing any more time/resources in Zach. At this point, Rodgers has all but committed to playing multiple years. This is Wlison's 3rd year, so they have to make a decision on his 5th year option after the season. Obviously they aren't going to pick it up. It probably makes more sense to just do what they did with Darnold and trade him after year 3. You wont get much for him (certainly not what Joe managed to absolutely rob Carolina of for Darnold) but it gives you the opportunity to just cut ties and sign a real backup.

Even if Rodgers plays 2 years and retires.....Zach will almost certainly want to leave to get a fresh start elsewhere.

zw is going to get a lot of play in preseason - in order to deal him for anything he'll have to be a lot better than what he showed last pm - looked like the same exact ZW to me. All time bust - what was JD thinking?

It really is crazy that he just straight up fooled so many (seemingly) qualified professionals.

I know jack about football and I saw red flags all over the damn place

That being said, I also wanted Jameson Williams over Garrett Wilson, so nobody is perfect.

I was sold on Fields after watching him in the CF Playoffs - always wary when a GM passes on legit players with a body of work for "upside and potential" -

interesting thought is if the team is better in the short term with how things panned out as Field is still very green and shaky as a passer where the Jets now are a legit contender - albeit for a short time - with Rodgers

You also wonder if fields (even as raw as he is/was) makes the Jets just a LITTLE better in 2021....causing them to pick lower in the 2023 draft and miss out on sauce.

Sucks that they blew it so badly with Wilson. And once Rodgers is gone, it will probably be really ugly for a while. But they have a 2 year window now.

I was really happy to see Klecko get into the Hall of Fame - one of the greatest Jets of all time.

As for Revis - he was awesome for a period of time and a big reason that team went to B2B AFCCGs - but I dont have the love for him like I do Klecko. All the hold outs - financial BS and going to win a ring in NE then returning to the Jets a shell of himself on a monster contract soured me on him, Still nice to see another Jet in the HOF but just not a big Revis fan at this point.

I know we are talking different regimes but so far this franchise simply can not identify, draft and develop a rookie QB. They are better off going the vet route. Hopefully Rodgers is reborn and plays another 2-3 yrs at a high level but when he's done I hope they go the FA/trade for a vet route. I dont know if I can stomach yet another rookie QB disaster

Totally agree. Klecko was before my time but obviously happy to see him get in.

Revis wants to pretend like he's some sort of Jets legend but the fact is that he was just a mercenary that the Jets happened to draft. Not saying he's a bad guy or anything (as we consistently see....teams will toss players aside like they're nothing the moment they're not useful anymore) but I have no love for him.

Hopefully Sauce surpasses him in every way.

I'd much rather see Ferguson and Mangold get recognized from that 09-10 group, but they're probably both "Hall of Very good" material.

Becton flat out just fell down on that last 3rd & 4. Fell forward on his face.

Man, Joe D. has drafted some winners and some doozies in his time.

Mims, Becton, Wilson, etc.

On a positive note, Zach has been good with the short area accuracy.

Really? I thought he threw a horrible pass to Knight in the first quarter that almost got poor Bam killed.

But he did complete a screen to Abanikanda, so there's that.

Abanikanda, by the way, just looks like he's moving at a different speed. Love to see him in the open field.

I really hope they don’t sign cook and let him and Knight fill in if Hall has to be eased in.

I agree. I mean, I don't care if they sign Cook and let Hall have the run of the lot when he's ready, but they're unlikely to do that if they sign Cook. That's my worry -- that Hall winds up in a timeshare. And that's not just for fantasy. Hall belongs as the 1A -- at least -- when he's ready. Cook being there will muddy that up.

That said, you can never have too many good, solid bodies that are in the backfield. They go down so easily and the cascading effects of ACL surgery might bite Hall this year. I just wish we'd spend the savings on Rodgers on some O-Line help, though there may not be any sitting around as was pointed out to me by you earlier in this thread.

Just want all the talent we can have and for it to be managed correctly. I just don't see them managing Cook correctly or easily. He's going to want to be the guy. I don't begrudge him that, either. He's just not Breece Hall at this point in his career.

Sort of surprised nobody is in here talking about the utter curbstomping that happened to the Panthers' first team offense at the hands of the second stringers of the Jets this weekend.

If it's any indication, the Jets are going to have a ferocious defense this year. If Lawson and Franklin-Myers aren't in on the quarterback quickfast and often, expect Huff and Johnson to get tons of snaps.

That was a beatdown, and Carolina has to be shaking their heads and trying to reset.

Didn't get a chance to watch the game. Was planning to (even went to my dad's early for a BBQ so that I would be there for kickoff) but got distracted by my 2 nephews running around like lunatics. Caught the highlights though.

yeah, the depth pieces on the D-line looked pretty scary against whatever Carolina was throwing out there. Johnson (who barely played last year) and McDonald (who really seemed like an unnecessary luxury pick) both look incredibly explosive. And obviously we know what we have with Huff as a pass rusher as well. Its a scary group and they feed off eachother. Will be even more insane when Q is in there taking up a constant double team. It does seem like they've built a monster up there (especially with one of the league's best CB groups slowing things up behind them).

Wilson looked ok when he was in there. Decent poise, completed some easy ones. Good for him. But I just dont see any sort of scenario (barring a Rodgers injury obviously) where he plays for the Jets again. This is all about trying to build some sort of "see, Zach is improving" narrative so they can try to trade him early next off-season. Just have to find one desparate team that will make the move and maybe pick up his 5th year option (which they'll need to do sight-unseen) to get a 2 year audition. Obviously they wont get anything close to what they got for Sam, but you just hope its SOMETHING.

Abanikanda continues to pop, which is nice to see. (this is why you spend a mid rounder on a RB even when you dont need one).

O-line continues to be the concern. Becton played MORE but I dont think he graded out all that well.

I have a feeling we're not gonna know who the starting 5 is until kickoff on Monday night. And I sort of think that AVT is eventually gonna kick out to RT again. If they aren't gonna try Becton there, the other potential options all stink.

well, it happened

I 100% get why they did it, especially with Breece coming off the injury. I dont think it was the spot on the roster most in need of an upgrade, but i guess they dont want to bet their season on carter, Knight and Abanikanda if Hall isn't right. Obviously carter or Knight is gone now. Guessing they just hold them through camp to see if they can squeeze one of them onto the practice squad (unless a RB somewhere else goes and another team is willing to pony up a late draft pick...which seems unlikely)

Hopefully Cook aint wash. Advanced stats from last year (not that I'm a huge proponent of them) seem to indicate a pretty major drop off (in terms of making guys miss)

We shall see. Kudos to them for going for it. Woody willing to write the check, which isn't nothing.

Kudos to them for going for it

Yep, other than my dynasty fantasy team, which took a major hit the day Breece went down with his ACL. But as a Jets fan, I can't complain about this signing even if he's washed. You have to think Rodgers and the schedule had something to do with Cook's signing.

There aren't any OL out there it seems, but if there are, then the Jets were barking up the wrong tree with this signing. I think they know that, though, and there just wasn't anybody on the couch that could be enticed to get off of it nor were they any good anyway at this point.

That's what I hope, anyway.
