Talk to me about the state of the Jets D. Pretty highly ranked overall in terms of fantasy points for the year, but mostly came from one or two big games.
Jets have a juicy schedule through most of ROS, so it's tempting, but is this a D you can depend on, fantasy-wise, talent-wise, and otherwise?
Well they've been pretty good considering a rookie-led offense that doesn't always move the ball well and makes the occasional turnover.
They got blown out against Jacksonville. Their DC had an odd defense that got them killed with crossing routes and intermediate passes.
They gave up 34 points against Indy, but I feel as though a lot of that was the Jets having a big lead and playing prevent for the most part in the second half.
The Jets have no pass rushers, but in 2-3 games had a fierce pass rush. Oddly, without a pass rush, they have been getting a ton of turnovers. Apparently, the coaching staff feels that in today's NFL, the rules are against the defense and you're going to give up yards, so they have been preaching turnovers. It's just odd to see us get INTs. We're not used to that except on the other teams.
Keep in mind that for most of the season, our stud CB has been either out for the whole game or injured in-game. Plus our nickle CB has been out quite a bit. Oh, and they have been missing their safety for most of the season and even the back-up got hurt. They've done pretty well despite missing these players (and the pass rush).
As far as talent, well, you've got Leonard Williams. He's a really good lineman often facing double or triple teams. Jamal Adams has had a breakthrough Pro Bowl season in his second year. Trumaine Johnson has been hurt for most of the year. That's it for the really good players.
Claiborne has been pretty good and often forced to play the top CB spot because of Johnson. Skrine isn't very good, but has his moments as the slot CB. He's been hurt. Maye the second rounder for last year has been hurt most of the season.
Henry Anderson, a d-lineman whom they acquired from the Colts for a 7th rounder, has been very good in our system.
LB: um. Well, Darron Lee has had his moments, but I think he looks lost at times, too. Our MLB, Avery WIlliamson is a good tackler, but lost in space. Jenkins sets the edge, but is a jag. This kid Copeland show some potential these past couple of games.
Their secondary is really good when healthy. The D-line is fairly stout. The LBs are average to below average. No edge rusher. They can't cover for crap.
The defense seems to be getting healthier, so yeah, I'd roll with them in good matchups. Not so much against better teams that keep the offense pinned.
